ARCHITECTURE OF DARKNESS THE HETEROTOPIA OF SIGHT

EDWIN CHO / THESIS 2014-2015

SIGHT V. VISION When I refer to the terms “sight” and “vision” I am signifying two completely different states of “seeing.” When refering to sight, I mean the simple act of seeing, or what is filtered into the eye, but when refering to vision, I speak of the relationship between a subject and an object, the association of knowledge to seeing. Vision as perception.

METAPHYSICS OF OBJECTS Symbol | the metaphor associated with the object. the traditional meaning of an object. objects that represent other objects Formal | the conventional recognition of an object Sign/Textual | an object that does not represent or symbolize, but one that attempts to reveal or simulate its structure, self-referential

ACHIEVING HETEROTOPIA //. separate and extract the symbol from the object in order to dislocate and uninscribe knowledge from sight //. organize the set of tools - the sign, the structure, the object, and the symbol //. reinscribe objects with a new structure that changes their perceptive nature
