LESSON PLAN OVERVIEW
Career: A Financial Analyst can help individuals and companies in many aspects of money, including investing money to make more money and evaluating trends. Financial analysts are also responsible for tracking a company's financial situation.
Lesson: This lesson will introduce students to the career of a Financial Analyst by learning the basics of money. Students will learn to recognize and identify the value of different denominations. Students will also learn the link between money and the ability to make purchases. Students will learn to recognize and identify coins and bills and how to add and subtract using money

Lesson Instructions: This lesson plan will help you demonstrate to students common skills and procedures used in the financial services profession. Begin the lesson by reading the Class Message below to your students, then have them watch the recommended Video Introduction. Afterwards, facilitate discussion with the Class Questions listed.
After the discussion, students will work on the included activities. Each activity has a printable worksheet with student instructions and areas to record their work. Have students read their worksheets before beginning each activity.
You should also familiarize yourself with the student worksheets to help demonstrate any procedures and help facilitate the ending activity discussion .
Class Message: Today we are going to explore the career of a Financial Analyst. We will discuss some common tasks, like recognizing and understanding the value of money and why we need money to buy things.

Activities Overview: This lesson plan includes two student activities. Activity #1 demonstrates students’ recognition and understanding of the value of money. Activity #2 challenges students to demonstrate their understanding of money by role playing using money to make purchases
Activity #1: Identifying, Adding, and Subtracting Money
This activity will demonstrate students’ recognition and value of money.
Activity Instructions:
〉 Hand out the student worksheet
〉 Review the worksheet and read the activity Introduction and Description to the students.
〉 Show students real money and tell them the value (penny, nickel, dime, quarter, one-dollar bill) Say, “5 pennies equal one nickel, 2 nickels equal one dime, etc.) and pass the money around so they can recognize each coin and bill.
〉 Walk students through the instructions for the Activity.
〉 Have students complete the activity individually.
〉 After completion, facilitate discussion questions for this activity.
Activity #2: Let’s Go Shopping!
Activity Instructions:
This activity enables students to see the link between the need for money to purchase goods and services
〉 Hand out the student worksheet.
〉 Setup an area in the classroom as the Store with items for sell with price tags (use everyday items in the classroom (pencils, crayons, etc. for activity only – not to keep) or purchase inexpensive toys or candy that students can keep.
〉 Students will role play selecting items and using their play money to pay - if they exceed the dollar amount, they have to adjust their purchase.
〉 Facilitate introduction of activity.
〉 Walk students through the instructions for the Activity.
〉 After completion, facilitate discussion questions for this activity.

Introduction: Recognizing different amounts of money and their value is very important in order to purchase items and services that are needed in your everyday life. You need money to purchase candy or a toy in a store. You need money to go to the movies or out to eat at a restaurant. Today, everywhere you go, you need to understand and know the value of money
Activity Description: Today, we are going to identify the different types of coins and bills and learn the value of money by adding and subtracting
