Beneath the Waves Building Submarines

Explore the World of Engineering and Manufacturing with Learning Blade’s New Mission, Beneath the Waves: Building Submarines!

Dive into the world of submarine technology and manufacturing. In this mission, students will learn about the methods used to design and construct today’s Naval submarines. Submarines must be stealthy, withstand pressure, have long endurance, and handle different situations. All of these aspects are considered during submarine design and influence decisions about the materials used. Students will learn about the different careers related to submarine manufacturing, such as naval architects, different engineer specialties, welders, machinists, quality control inspectors, and more. With each career, students will learn about the on-the-job responsibilities, as well as the skills and interests a person in this career might have.
