A 10cm x 14cm sheet produces a model 3cm x 3cm base and 4 cm high

1. White side up. Valley crease at 45 degrees.

4. Creasing finished. Lift four corners, using creases from steps 1 & 2.

2. Mountain crease (try not to crease center square).

3. Mountain crease at 45 degrees (f laps do NOT meet at center line).

1) Mark the center of the bill with a valley fold, and then fold diagonally to this mark.

10. From the back it should look like this, note the two pockets at the bottom when you fold the top down tuck it into the pockets to lock it into shape.

6. Fold up the flap, or unfold it according to your perspective.

11. Finished chair. Now figure out a which point a simple reversal would hide the lines shown in the seat and back of the chair!

Chrysalis This is a unique mix of Traditional forms that tie together one flows into the next the sequence is so simple and natural that it makes a good teaching lesson for showing how one model can flow into another more complex model. I take no credit for this sequence of folds all I did was tie them together to provide a lesson plan a long time ago.

1. Fold the model in half on the diagonal Crease well and unfold.

2. Fold both sides into the center daigonal crease.

3. Valley fold the model in half on the diagonal.

4. Inside reverse fold the top down to form the head.


Tap the crows tail and see him peck at the ground.

5. This is the first stage of the model the pecking crow.

6. For the next step in the models progress unfold the head.

7. Fold the bottom edge up on each side of the model.

8. Outside reverse fold the upper part of the model to form it’s neck. (Also a good way to teach Outside and inside reverse folds.)


9. Another ouside reverse fold to form the pidgeons head.

If you push down on the pidgeon just behide the neck you can make the head move forwards and back just like the pidgeons do in the park!

10. This is the finished pigeon.

11. Now to finish up pleat the the head in to form a beak and reverse fold the back end of the model up to form the ducks tail feathers (optionaly you could fold with an inside reverse fold the tip of tail feathers down.)

12 Finaly the end of the sequence is here! You have a duck! If you are fond of mischief and are doing this for a young person, you could show them how they can stick a finger or a thumb into the pockets on both sides of the duck and pull outward, thus forming the dreaded attack duck!

2. Fold up a little less than 1/3 from the top.

1. Fold a square in half on the diagonal one direction then fold in half on the diagonal the other way.

10. Grab the inner flap again and bring at least part of it back up again. This time it doesn’t have to go the length of the flap.

9. Grab the inner flap and reverse fold that puppy all the way to the end of flap, so it comes down even with the bottom of the model.

NOTE: When the model is finished there should be a flap sticking up inside of the model you can fold over to lock the body together.

4. Fold the long edge up to the top on each side. The finished Coot!

8. Just taking a break here to say to mention how far the tail sticks out all depends on step 2.

7. Pleat the beak in a little for that waterfowl look!

Hajtásfajták / Fold types Magyar It may sound strange but it is true that every origami model is built up fr om the same set of fold types. Thus, if you learn (or already know) the following techniques of folding, you shall not have pr oblems folding the models in this book. The folds types are related with each other, since all of them are a specific composition of "valley" and "mountain" folds (which ar e named differently only because of the viewer's point of view, otherwise they are the same). In the following explanatory diagrams the pictures whose number is highlighted, show how that specific fold type is denoted later in the models ' diagrams.

Cutting “dollar” rectanges from a square Gay Merrill Gross showed me this method at ORCA. It more closely approximates (at 2.427:1) the dollar’s true proportions (2.436:1) than a 3-by-7 rectangle (2.333), and is more convenient too.

1. A square and an 8.5” x 11” rectangle are shown. Longer rectangles work too. Fold and unfold.

4. Cut along horizontal crease lines, discarding the top edge-piece. A square yields 2 “dollars”, while the 8.5” x 11” sheet yields 3.

2. Only the square shown from now on. Bisect and unfold, marking only at the right edge.

3. Valley-crease where mark hits right edge. Then mountaincrease an equal distance above. With an 8.5” x 11” sheet, valleycrease again above that.

An Odd Duck By Perry Bailey Copyright 1974, 2000

1. Fold in half on the diagonal in both directions then fold the top point down to the middle.

2. Mountain fold the sides to the center of the model then Valley fold it in half on the diagonal.

3. Grab the inner flap and bring it up as far as you can while sinking the upper corner.

4. Fold a rabbits ear on each side of the body as if making the fish base.


5. Reverse fold the upper flap up, then squash fold the rabbit ears on both sides.

6. Pleat the flap inward so that it comes out like the next diagram.

7. Reverse fold the lower flap up with in body so that a part of it will stick out the front to form the feet.

8. Fold the bottom of the model up into the intereior then fold the top edge in the front down so form the head a little better.

All of which makes for a truly Odd Duck!

This is a stem for Kawasaki’s rose, seen in Kasahara’s book, Origami for the Beginner. valley fold mountain fold Start from a square piece of paper, folded in thirds. Prefold according to the diagram at the left. A crude representation of the stem is shown below. Flip this over, and fit the square area under the four folded flaps on the reverse side of Kawasaki’s rose.

If my memory serves me correctly, using a piece of paper twice the size of that used for the rose will give a good sized stem. an original (or so I think) fold, diagrammed by A. Anselmo, 6/93.


This model is especially designed for folding serviettes. When you fold it from one side colored paper you get the contrast extra.

This model has recently been reworked by Kunihiko Kasahara from an old picture. The picture was discovered by Kunihiko in a Japanese book about architecture. It was a Japanese design for a carved wooden room decoration, showing various Origami objects. The book dates from 1734 and thus this model is older than that. When you have finished this modular box you may open it from any side.

4. Reverse-fold. Rotate 60 degrees. 5. Triangle C will be the base of the tetrahedron. All valley folds are 120-degree planar angles. Tuck D into pocket at bottom edge of C.

7. Done. There are 2 pockets you could have tucked E into. The one in the front face covers the seam, but locks loosely. The one in the right face makes a tighter lock, but leaves the seam visible.

6. Model is now 3-D. Wrap around with 120-degree planar valley folds, and tuck E into pocket on right side of front face.

1. Precrease an A sized piece of paper with a water bomb base at the top. This seems to work best with light weight paper, turn over,.

2. fold the corners to the center on the top. Then turn over the model.

4. Swivel fold out the two sides at the top of the model. 3. Fold the top of the model into a water bomb base.

Note crease 5. This looks harder than it is, really you are doing 2 swivel folds. Use the crease created in step 4 as a guide, it will come in along the center edge of the model.

7. Mountain fold the entire top of the model back at the point of the triangle. Turn the model over.

8. Swivel fold up both sides as far upwards as you can.

9. Fold the tip of the point down to round out the heart. turn the model back over.

10. crese the model like shown.

12. Note that in the folding you created a handle to hold the plane by to throw it! Now you can throw your heart away! Will it come back or will it keep on going? 11. Note don’t crease it to tightly!
