Dalitso is the founder and the Chief Executive Officer of the ZYVP. She is 19 years old and currently studying Law at the Nottingham Trent University in the UK. Alongside her academic studies she was elected by the young people of the City of Leeds in the UK as the Deputy Member of the UK Youth Parliament, after a difficult campaign, for a two year term which started in March 2012. After her election she worked with fellow members of Youth Parliament to organize events and projects, and run campaigns to influence decision makers on the issues which matter most to the young people. In addition to this, Dalitso attended regional meetings and worked with MPs, decision makers, councillors and local youth groups on the issues of greatest concern in her constituency. In November 2013, she was given the opportunity to meet other. Furthermore, Dalitso acted as a voice for the young people, and used their concerns to implement change in local and national laws. For a recent national campaign with help from her colleagues and she was instrumental in bringing change to the school curriculum. For the reason that the successful campaign resulted in the life skills being in corporated in the school curriculum.

Dalitso was also involved in the “Make public transport cheaper, better and accessible for all campaign. The campaign involved taking part in meetings with MPs and transport companies as wells as debates and hosting events to highlight the need for cheaper public transport for young people who are in full time education or under the age of 18. This was successful as it led to a reduction in the price of public transport for young people. The invaluable skills that she gained as a result of her experience on the UK Youth Parliament has encouraged her to start the Zambian Youth View Point Or (Z.Y.V.P). This is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which was founded in the year 2014 by the young people. The aim of the organization is to empower fellow young people aged between 16 and 25 years, to influence and inform the decisions that affect their lives. The organisation will focus on two core functions. The first being the Youth Innovation Hub (YIH), which will provide platforms for young people to develop innovative ideas as well as gain and develop valuable leadership skills aimed at contributing to the development of a better Zambia.

The second being the Zambian Youth Parliament (ZYP), which will enable young people to have a voice when it comes to social change. The population of young people in Zambia is approximately 60% of the country’s total population. Like many young people in developing countries across the world, the youth in Zambia are faced with multiple challenges that stand in the way of young people getting involved in the decision making process in their communities. Some studies show that the lack of understanding of structures that govern the youths and low civic literacy levels among the youths have contributed to low involvement in the decision making process. In addition, most young are unable to speak out on what is not right, because they lack knowledge and skills to effectively get involved. According to the Zambian culture, decision making is usually a preserve of the elderly and as such, young people are not consulted. In some cases, adults pose resistance to the views of young people and are not ready to share power with them. However, it is still important to take their views into account as they are the future of Zambia. How do we expect them to lead in future if we do not prepare now? This is where the ZYVP comes in it will not only provide a platform for young people to use their voices, but they will also be able to participate in regular training workshops. This will ensure that the young people of Zambia gain the necessary skills they need to be our future leaders. Although, there are several Youth Groups (YG’s) in Zambia, none of them actually enable young people to have a voice when it comes to social change.

The majority typically address problems such as poverty, sexual health and unemployment by providing services and support to young people. This is because there are gaps in institutions dealing with young people, with many organizations operating as representatives of the youths but not really standing for the needs of the young people in the country. In particular, there is a significant age gap between the organizers of the Youth Groups and the young people. As a result it is difficult for the organizers to relate to the youths, and make decisions that take the youths into account fully. For this reason the services and support provided in most cases do not necessarily benefit the young people to a great extent. Therefore, it emphasises the need for the Z.Y.V.P, which will be run by young people for the young people. In addition to this the high numbers of available youths in Zambia indicates that the stability of the government, the growth of economy, and the development of social sectors are directly impacted by the well-being of youths. This is a significant issue but the solution is simple, as the Z.Y.V.P believes that young people themselves can offer solutions to these challenges and hence there is a need to find a way of engaging them in the process of development not only as beneficiaries but as active stakeholders. This evident with the fact that many attempts by politicians and organisation run by adults to overcome the challenges that young people face have not been very successful. Therefore, it is important to operationalize the ZYVP as a youth led organisation as it provide the platform needed to enable the youth to influence decisions that affect their everyday life and bring about a positive change in Zambia.

Q&A with Actor/Entrepreneur/Producer Motivational Speaker Kagiso Modupe We all know him as Mangaliso Nyathi on ETV Scandal and just in case you met him in town or you wanted to follow him on social media his name is Kagiso Modupe. If you follow Kagiso Modupe on Instagram you will know that he is the funniest guy ever and his videos are so hilarious OMG!.When I asked him to feature on my Blog he did not take long to reply and he was so delighted about it. I think so far from all celebrities I follow he is the only person who takes his time to interact with his fans and gives a follow back.

Who is Kagiso Modupe outside of Scandal? Hus Kagiso Modupe is a Husband, father to my daughter Tshimollo. I'm a heavy Entrepreneur and have a few businesses running like my construction company ( Eminent Construction Services), TV Production company (Bakwena productions), and an Events company( KAGMOT). Property Investor. I MC for different types of events from activations to high class corporate events. I'm a full time motivational speaker and recently going to starting a music career and busy writing a book.

Did you cut your hair for your character and how did you feel? I'I've changed my look 4 times now because of the show. I don't have a problem with it because we do discuss the change beforehand. I think that one things that has always contributed to Mangi being such an interesting character is the comfortability to humble myself to the character. Allowing him to be and not Kagiso to interfere with Mangi ' s journey.

What advice have you got for young people Are you anything like your character 'Mangi'? who want to make it to the acting world? My character has gone through a lot (drugs, sex, alcohol, death, love, and hectic family dynamics) and I think in terms of the values I think there are some similarities there which are survivor, good intentions, and love. What has your character taught you over the years?

Don't take the acting world lightly...Instead I suggest you respect it. You need to love life and what it comes with, good or bad. Acting is a reflection of what happens in real life. What are the disadvantages of fame? Having to share yourself between your family and fans, dealing with unruly fans. Playing a rich guy and not being able to be that in real life.

Life happens even to those who think it doesn't. Lol. It taught me that love conquers all and that no matter what you go through there is always light at What should we expect from Kagiso Modupe in the next 5 years? the end of the tunnel. It has taught me that for every input there is an output. Mo More growth in terms of business. I plan to acIf you were not an actor what would you be? quire more properties and go behind the scenes. United Kingdom. Tell us the impact social media has had on your career and life generally. What inspired you to do what you do now? Please introduce yourself and state the part of Africa you are from?

Social Media plays a big part on my career and life because that is the only way online I can show people my works and what I can do. The thing with the Internet is that you never know who is watching. I can showcase my work to let’s say a hundred people, but out of those hundred people there is always someone that is willing to which is oppo Our followers are a big fan of your work as well offer me a life changing opportunity as we are, for people who aspire to be a creative what has been happening in my career as from late. The more you do it, the more President Robert Mugabe was recently in the storm of digital artists due to his slip, what's you get better. Consistency is key. Be dedicated to what you do and have the passion for it, it will take your view on that? Innovative or Disrespectful? you far. fa I wouldn’t say anything inspired me to do what I do now, if anything it was the passion I had for what I do. I have always been a creative individual, I love to create and produce things. Art was just one of them things I was passionate about and was dedicated towards the most.

I can only speak on this from the thought, what if that was me, would I find it innovative or disrespectful? I do not think personally I would like it but the thing with the world nowadays is that people like to be innovative and turn a bad situaI do not think to be good at what you do or to be tion in to something funny or entertaining. I will still cause the same impact that I am causing in the U.K if I lived in ZimDo you have a girlfriend? babwe regardless. If you were fully resident in Zimbabwe do you think you could have been a better digital artist?

Oh yes, Michelle Obama, she just doesn’t know it yet. Jokes. Oh no I am currently single and I am not looking. This is not just in Africa but around the world. How can digital art be used to develop Africa?

When it comes to your work re you doing this for a living or for fun? When you say to me are you doing this for a living I assume that you mean do I manipulate people for a living. No I do not, but what I do for a living is that I am a self-taught freelance graphic designer with over 8 years of working in the industry on a diverse range of projects for individuals, small and large sized businesses. I specialise in identity/branding, advertising, digital/print and web design, as well as photography and film. I have a growing client base and experience working with clients all over the world including the UK, USA, UAE, Australia and many more. On account having worked with large companies such as NHS, BBC, ITV, MOBO Awards, Unicef, Metropolitan Police, various City Councils in the UK and many more. I strive for the highest level of quality in my work and I am always looking to add new talents to my repertoire of skills. Where the skill of image manipulation and retouching which I only showcase on my Instagram account is a marketing strategy which I came up with as a self-promotional tactic where I feature myself as the subject to show people I can design but by merging design and photography, was to come with the skill of image manipulation which is a process of creating images that appear to be real but they are not but obviously with it being stated clear that it is a manipulation. All though it is all humour on Instagram, things are more serious on my website where visitors get to see a lot more of my corporate work that I do for a living as a graphic designer and photographer, no manipulations. I have been able to use Instagram as a platform to show the world what I can do and with surprise it has caused an online buzz and a huge following of over 30,000 followers which has gained interest from large organisations, a fan base, and as well as opening major doors that have led me to working with big people.

Have you not been arrested for any of the Photoshop seeing that you have added Michelle Obama to your list? Why will I get arrested for this? the funny thing is my work has been acknowledged by the celebrities or profiles that I have used in my work, and it is good to know that they find the humour in this and also see the skill of what I am capable of doing because it is not easy to make an image look as real as I do, it is something that has took time to learn and it is all not of a click of a button. Just the other day I gained one of the world’s most famous singer, Rihanna as a follower of my works as well as gained recognition from a lot of other world known celebrities, actors, musicians, footballers, etc. who share my work on their accounts whether it is Instagram, twitter or Facebook on a daily basis. How would you describe the way the media portrays Africa? It seems every time when Africa is on the news, it is never the good things about the country. Being one that was raised in the U.K every time it was on the news, I can never recall anything positive being shown until my recent trip to Zimbabwe made me realize it is a beautiful continent with amazing countries, i.e. Zimbabwe. It is once you place yourself there you will know what I mean. The media constantly paints a bad picture about it when yet it is not showing you the good. One thing people need to understand is that the news or the media can be very manipulative. Where do you see yourself in the next 5-10 years?

One thing that is always been on my mind is that if I am going to be a graphic designer, I do not want to be your average graphic designer. I want to take But to say if I do it for fun, it seems like it in the peographic design to the extreme that it has never been ple’s eyes, but they have to understand the reason taken before, although the idea of digital manipulabehind as I have just stated, its marketing strategy, tion is something that has always been there but I there is more to my work such as fun concepts, thought provoking images and illusions, pieces of writ- want to jump in to the equation and stir things up a bit which I do believe belie it is something I have been ing as I try and show people the interest and love for doing lately and will continue to do with new innovaEnglish language and literature. tive designs. I would love to hold an exhibition in the near future to showcase this not just online but offline as well.
