IMIZAMO YETHU INCREMENTAL INTEGRATION Cape Town - South Africa An attempt at the emancipation from the stagnant urban state of post-apartheid South Africa MSc | Thesis Project Group of 3 Participation Young Talent Architecture Award 2020
The project attempts to explore and tackle the current, unique state of Cape Town, South Africa. Cape Town is a city struggling with harsh inequalities best showcased in the conditions of Informal settlements on the cities peripheries in contrast to the high standard of life in central suburbs. The conditions of these informal sections are problematic as in Imizamo Yethu (IY) with wildfires, lack of circulatory space, lack of any infrastructure, no greenery and minimal sanitation, the community is disenfranchised by the circumstances and development seems hard to achieve. The interventions aim at providing some sort of enfranchisement in IY with the creation of a framework of urban tools which can be used to create a more healthy urban state.
Lack of connectivity in IY
Introduction of connectivity in IY
| INTERVENTIONS The project has been set-out with a hierarchy of interventions, large, medium and small. The large intervention being the most prominent in size and importance, it acts as the catalyst for change in the site while the medium interventions focus on ensuring persistent sustainability and resilience and the small interventions, management of everyday life in = the site. The small interventions support the medium ones while the medium interventions assist the large.

IMIZAMO YETHU KRAAL Cape Town - South Africa Structural node MSc | Architectural Design for Complex Structure 2 Group of 8 Participation EVOLO Competition 2019
30 years ago the Homelands Act forced black people to live on the east side of the country in South Africa. In Cape Town, a concentric urban zoning segregates the population according to racial and economic differences. In the middle of a white affluent suburban area, Imizamo Yethu is located a high-density informal settlement fully occupied by black people, as source of cheap labor for the post-apartheid capitalist city. Despite the critical points, this area has a great potential due its interaction with surrounding landscape. This was used as an opportunity in order to create a great social based design that provides citizens to create, sustain, and increase life quality. The Kraal tower represents not just a necessity, but an icon for IY itself.

FREEDOM THEATRE Naumburg - Germany Abandoned prison to theatre and community center MSc | Architectural Design for Complex Structure 1 Group of 3 Exhibited by Sachsen Anhalt in Nietzsche Haus in Naumburg
Two old towns which are surround by green belt and villas with gardens create the texture of city of Naumburg in Germany. Designing a place with opposite functionality and form of the existing building was the idea of the new possible architecture to replacemt of the abondoned prison with freedom, solid and cold architecture with green landscape. Landscape formed by some triangles folded to create the paths lead to top of the fly tower. The fly tower, by the definition theatre is a collaborative form of fine art, is the only element bolded. On the other side, other parts tired to hide under the landscape and green fractioned hills continued to the historical gates and surrounding.

COLLECTIVE LIVING FOR ELDERLY Istanbul - Turkey Interaction point & living units for elderly BSc | Architectural Design Graduation Project Individual
Eyüp is an old neighborhood as it is close to historical peninsula of Istanbul by Golden Horn where changes are continuously during the history. Today, industrial buildings has been transforming to universities, cultural centers and public buildings. Schools and universities which are located around Golden Horn are based potentially. This program approached as an interaction center which ‘elders’ would be able to cross with ‘young’ and ‘neighborhood residents’ in urban area. Another concept which supports this interaction in ‘cycle’. The cycle is utilized as an information sharing between elders and the young, meeting of production and consumer, plants and fishes in aquaponic system.

LITERATURE CENTER Mantova - Italy Opportunities for cultural activities both for public & private BSc | Architectural Design Project Group of 3
The project area “Piazza Martiri di Belfiore” is important as the memory of the city. The area is located crossing of the main road and main pedestrian access to city center. Bell tower of a ruined chuch (Campanile di San Domenico) and Giulio Romano’s design Le Pescherie di Giulio Romano are significant elements for design decisions. The architectural program is based on a center for “Festivaletteratura” which is an important literature festival for Mantova. Primary needs of the program are offices for organization, conference hall for conventions, archive room, boutique hotel for visitors. In addition, library and open air recreation, semi-open market, cafeteria and exhibition hall are designed for public use.
