NEW TERRAIN

New Terrain is a behavior health clinic located in Bentonville, Arkansas for children and young adults. The goal is to create a hopeful and human centered design approach to behavioral health recovery, including mood disorders & substance abuse, that prioritizes patients and allows those who are trying to heal to find their own path on their journey. The reference to the surrounding mountain landscapes of Arkansas provide a sense of home for the patients, connects them to nature, and provides a positive distraction in the design. The healing process is aided through wayfinding, organic forms, & biophilia, to improve overallwellness.

The privacy increases toward the back to protect the patients in private therapy and the staff areas.

A natural color palette is used in the shared, public areas to create a calm first impression.

Curvilinear shapes and patterns are used for positive distractions for the patients.

FURNITURE STUDIES

Hand drawn recreations of exemplary chair designs throughout time combined with researching allowed for a more in depth thought process. Material choice, weight, detailing, and many more factors that make up the design of furniture help show the influence of past designs.

One of the very first projects produced and one of the most infulencial to me being a good designer involved abstract thinking based off of something ordinary. Analyzing my chosen vegetable, a pumpkin, I was able to look into the interior to see the contents such as veins, seeds, dew, etc. Using the design principles and the observed attributes patterns and designs were created.
