by: James Tutten Everyone wants to save money when they're booking flights for their upcoming trip. Here are several ways to find cheap airfare that you might not have considered. Often the best seats and the best discounts are given to those who book their flights months or weeks in advance. But sometimes it is not possible to book a flight in advance, because a trip may be last minute. When that is the case, you have to get a little more creative to get discounted tickets at good rates. There are several ways to get around the high cost of flying and take
)
advantage of discounted tickets. Sometimes taking a flight during the week can save you a quite a bit of money. Tuesday and Wednesday are often the cheapest days to book a flight. Weekend days can also be cheaper, such as Saturdays, depending on your destination. International and domestic flights vary as to which days are less expensive, so ask about the cheapest days to fly on when you call about booking your flight. Many people realize that airfare may be cheaper on certain days of the week, or during different times of year, depending on the
destination. But many people don't realize how important the time of day can be. The time of your flight can make a large difference in the amount of money that you pay for your plane ticket. In most cases, only the day of the trip is important to the traveler. Vacations can often be scheduled around the cheapest flights available. Business people typically travel the day before rather than the day of a business meeting. Taking the time of your flight into consideration can save you a lot of money on your plane tickets
without causing you any frustration or earliest flight available. These flights scheduling issues. Some of the cheapest flights are in the late night and early moming hours, between midnight and four o'clock in the moming on what are called red-eye flights. Most people are sleeping during these times, and do not want to take a flight in the middle of the night. You can usually find cheap or discounted flights during these off peak travel times. The best rule of thumb is to find the latest flight available, or the
will have the cheapest airfare .. If your vacation itinerary is not dependent on arrival time or you are crossing several time zones, take a late night flight and arrive during the day when checking into a hotel will be much easier. If your business meeting isn't until the afternoon, take an early morning flight and take a short nap at the hotel to freshen up before the meeting. In most cases, late night or early morning flights will not interfere with your plans.
Intncate game of logic.... For instance .... "I am going on a trip, and I am bringing an apple, a banana, and a cat." The next person might then say (if they know the correct connection) "I am going on a trip, and I am bringing a mop, and napkin, and an octopus." The play continues until everyone gets the connection. In this case, it was that all of the things that I am bringing start with consecutive letters of the alphabet. The person who begins each game selects the connection. These activities are simple and fun. The idea is for the entire family to be involved and enjoy the thrill of guessing the answers. Each of these activities can be played with just about any age group and best of all,
there is no cost involved. Any piece of information can be used in the toss ups game from social studies, science, history, math, or trivia ... you name it. The idea here is to have fun with your children and make travel time a little easier
Traveling with Children - Learning A(tivitie~ for the Road by: Teresa Mills Traveling with children can be fun as well as very trying. Our family has been traveling with our children since the children were babies. Our children are in their middle school years now, but over the years we have come up with some fun travel activities that keep the children's attention and teach them something in the process. While on long trips, it can be very tempting to use the portable DVD player to provide entertainment for your children, and don't think for a minute that we don't use that form of entertainment. ... for parts of long trips. . .. but there are so many simple, fun games that you can play with your children that will help make the trip smoother and more
enjoyable. Here are some examples of activities that we have used to make travel time smoother. One of my children's favorite games is what my husband calls "Toss Ups". In Toss Ups, my husband simply tosses questions up. For instance, "Who was the first president of the United States of America?" or "If I had 5 apples, and I gave 3 apples to Tom , how many apples do I have now?" Now, as you can see, the questions can be very simple depending on your children's ages. If you have a larger age span between children, you might toss up general questions to all, but throw in .... Now, this toss up is just for Adam... and then ask a question tailored for the younger child. This
game was a huge hit with our children when they were ages two through five, but even now that they are 11 and 13, every now and then we hear - Hey Daddy - give us some toss ups .... Believe me, trying to come up with questions for smart middle-schoolers is tough!! Lately, we have tailored the game of "Going on a trip" to our family. "Going on a trip" is a fun game where everyone in the car tells that they are going on a trip and bringing something along. That "something" has to begin with the first letter of the person's name. You keep going along in that fashion until everyone guesses the first letter -first name connection. Now that our children are older, we have adapted that game to a pretty

paradise. Its warm summers and mild winters make it possible to enjoy boating, camping, golfing and water sports. Florida is great for camping. Outdoor enthusiasts can choose a variety of setting, from beachfront campground, to RV parks, to primitive camping. The mild climate allows year round camping and outdoor activities. While camping, one can experience white sand beaches, peaceful forest and theme park thrills and at the end of the day, enjoy a breathtaking sunset. Florida has one of the best state park systems in the country with many great places to camp within a stone's throw of the Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico. The beaches are some of the finest in the world and have been rated among the top ten each year in Dr. Beach's America's Best Beach list each year. They are rated among the best for beauty, facilities and ease of access. Families, couples or singles enjoy year round sunshine and soft white sand and clear water. The waters along its beaches are generally warm in comparison to the rest of the country. Beaches are a great way to get out in the sun, to
play, to stroll and look for shells or to relax on a beach chair in the warm sunshine while reading a good book or just enjoying the companionship and the activity all around. With the many miles of coastline and the hundreds of natural lakes, Florida offers much for boaters. It is ideal for power-boating, sailing, kayaking, water-skiing, wake boarding, wind surfing and canoeing. Like fishing? You will find bass fishing, inshore saltwater and flats fishing and offshore saltwater fishing if you want to catch the "big ones." You may bring your own boat or charter one. Common and popular game fish include the sailfish and blue marlin. Florida is the "golf capital of the world." The year round sun attracts hundreds of thousands of golfers each year. There are over 1,000 public, private and semiprivate courses in which numerous cheap golf courses are also available. No matter what your golfing ability or budget courses are accessible to suit all needs. To avoid large crowds and packed attraction, as well as expensive lodging, make plans to visit Florida during the off -season, which is during the months of May through October. This is also a popular time for families with school-age children. Traveling during the "off seasons" can be rewarding. â‚Ź

~outh Carolina (oa~t feature~ 200 mile~ of ~un and ~urf A mix of easy public access, private retreats and natural preserves highlights the 200 miles of Atlantic Ocean coastline that South Carolina calls its own. For generations, beach trips to millions of Americans and Canadians has meant an easy drive to Myrtle Beach and later, Hilton Head, while expanded air travel has added more intemational travelers in recent years. Reliable, decent weather year-round and a burgeoning menu of attractions and amenities continue to drive that growth in popularity. Starting from the north, Myrtle Beach anchors the 60-mile crescent
of shoreline known as the Grand Strand. Characterized by long, sweeping stretches of sand and surf, the Strand offers both bustling and less-boisterous choices for plopping that plastic chaise lounge and propping the umbrella. In Myrtle Beach proper, hotels old and new, restaurants and shops line the beach, with public access points interspersed. Then there are the quiet ocean-side beach communities such as Cherry Grove, Atlantic Beach (considered perhaps the nation's first predominantly African American beach town). Garden City and "elegantly shabby" Pawleys Island.
Each offers varying degrees of public beach access and wide choices of hotel. cottage and condo rentals, as well as package deals with many of the more than 100 golf courses on the Strand. Cozy Myrtle Beach and expansive Huntington Beach state parks also offer beach access, camping, environmental education programs and more. Much of the coast is protected wildlife refuges until the Charleston area, itself a world-class destination for lovers of history and architecture but also home to popular beach destinations such as Wild Dunes Resort and the Isle of Palms to the
north of town and Folly Beach and its popular public beach just to the south. Next up going south is storied Edisto Island. Live oaks draped with Spanish moss overhang the narrow highway across the big island to Edisto Beach, long beloved for its great shelling. The park also has a robust environmental education center, camping and cabins. Then there's the Beaufort area. The big park has four miles of beach, cabins and thousands of acres of maritime forest and marsh for exploring. It even has a historic, 1OO-foot lighthouse.
At the south end of South Carolina's coast is Hilton Head, a golf and tennis haven. Hilton Head is world famous for its plantation resorts, which combine beachfront dining, pools and cabanas with tennis, a range of accommodations and public and private golf. There are literally thousands of hotel rooms, condos, campsites and other accommodations along the South Carolina coast as well as a myriad of dining, entertainment and educational options to help spice up the trip.
setting, by American artists in the world. The sprawling 4,000-acre facility also includes spectacular gardens, wildlife trails, and The Lowcountry Zoo. Hopsewee Plantation was built 40 years before the Revolutionary War and was the birthplace of Thomas Lynch, Jr., . signer of the Declaration of Independence. Visitors to Hopsewee
tour the waterfront plantation house and the nearby slave cabins. The combination of wonderful accommodations, entertainment shopping, romantic dining, great golf and pristine beaches make Georgetown County the perfect choice for your vacation getaway.
