Seven Dubai flights diverted due to heavy Fog
Seven flights to Dubai International have been diverted this morning to Fujairah and Muscat due to heavy fog, according to a spokesperson for the airport. "Low visibility caused by foggy weather conditions have disrupted normal operations at Dubai International (DXB) this morning with seven in-bound flight diverted to a neighbouring airport," the spokesperson told Arabian Business. "Dubai Airports is working with airlines and other partners to minimise inconvenience to customers and ensure their comfort." Emirates said its flights have been left largely unaffected, with a similar situation reported in Abu Dhabi. “Flights are mostly running per schedule – no cancellations and minimal delays on a few flights,” the spokesperson said. In Abu Dhabi, where there is also heavy fog, an Etihad Airways’ spokesperson confirmed that there were no delays or diversions to its flights so far this morning. Turkey plane: Panic as jet skids off runway at Trabzon
The Pegasus Airlines Boeing 737-800 with 168 passengers and crew had flown from Ankara and landed at Trabzon on the Black Sea coast late on Saturday. Everyone on board was evacuated safely, provincial governor Yucel Yavuz said. No injuries were reported. The cause of the accident is being investigated, officials said. State-run Anadolu news agency said there was panic on board as the plane went out of control. Pictures show the jet lying nose down on a muddy slope just metres from the water's edge. "We tilted to the side. The front was down while the plane's rear was up. There was panic, people shouting, screaming," passenger Fatma Gordu was quoted as saying. Mr Yavuz said the airport was closed for several hours while investigations took place. In a statement Pegasus Airlines said the plane "had a runway excursion incident" as it landed at Trabzon

Kenya readies itself for direct US flights with changes at JKIA
Bookings for Kenya Airways maiden direct flights to the US have started in earnest. As part of readying itself for the inaugural flight, the Government is streamlining management of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to enhance passenger experience. ALSO READ: Kenya Airways shortens Nairobi-New York flight to 14 hours This was revealed as it emerged that KQ may recall some of its leased airplanes as it prepares to launch non-stop transatlantic flights in October. The airline intends to fly planes daily from Nairobi to New York and its biggest shareholder, the Government is pulling all stops to make the venture successful.

According to the flight schedule, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with a capacity of 234 passengers, 30 of them in business class and 204 of them in economy will depart every day from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 11:25pm. The plane will arrive at JFK International Airport in New York the following day at 6:25am. Another plane is expected to go the opposite direction with the outbound flight. And to ready itself, all employees of Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and service providers will next week sign a charter that will place them under one command structure for easier management. “We want one chain of command at the airport because we have so many agencies working there and everyone is doing things the way they feel is best,” said Macharia. “At the port of Mombasa we have two agencies but all of them are answerable to the CEO. This is why the port is efficient nowadays. Why can’t we do it at JKIA and it is the first point of contact between visitors and Kenya?” posed the CS.

First-class airport The State also wants all service providers including representatives of taxi companies that operate at the airport to be vetted and accept to work within specific guidelines as it seeks to transform JKIA into a first class airport befitting its Category One status. “Presently all the State officials who work at JKIA report to their line Ministries. This is not tenable if we want it to be a world-class airport,� said Macharia. Kenya Airways intends to hire 150 people for the JFK-JKIA route including pilots, air hostesses and ground staff in New York. The airline which has 39 aircraft has in the last two years also subleased three B777-300ERs to Turkish Airlines, sold one Boeing 777-200ER and returned two leased Embraer E170 aircraft to their owners. KQ, as the airline is also known is charging $869 (Sh87,000) for a return ticket on the direct flight. The flight time will be 14 hours outbound and 15 hours inbound. Malaysia Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Izham Ismail and Chief Commercial Officer, Arved von zur Muehlen were present at KLIA to greet the 255 passengers on MH4. The latest addition to the Malaysia Airlines fleet, the A350 has a total capacity of 286 seats of four in first class, 35 in business class and 247 in economy class. "While recognizing the valuable measures that have been undertaken to date... we strongly believe that there remains a considerable amount of work to be achieved before Lufthansa would be in the position to enter comprehensively into the next phase of the process," Carsten Spohr said in the letter. He said a restructured "NewAlitalia" would be smaller in terms of both staff and its fleet. Alitalia, which has made a profit only a few times in its 70-year history, was put under special administration last year after staff rejected a plan to cut jobs and salaries. Any job cuts would be sensitive ahead of a national election in March.
