أكد أحمد شاهٌن ،رئٌس شركة مصر للطٌران للخدمات األرضٌة ،أنه ال توجد مشكلة فً عودة الرحالت الروسٌة لمصر ،وهناك مفاوضات بٌن الوكاالت، وهناك عقود مفتوحة بٌننا وبٌنهم ،وننتظر مجرد إشارة بدء الرحالت ،ونحن جاهزون. وأضاف خالل مداخلة هاتفٌة لبرنامج "الطرٌق لالتحادٌة" ،المذاع عبر فضائٌة ،ON Liveنحن فً انتظار قرار الجانب الروسً باستئناف الرحالت ،وهناك وفد من الوكاالت التً تتعامل معهم فً مصر ،سافر إلى موسكو ٌوم األحد الماضً؛ لمتابعة بداٌة إشارات الرحالت ومتابعة طلباتهم، متاب اعا« :إننا جاهزون الستقبال أي رحالت بمجرد إطالق إشارة البدء».

قال وزٌر النقل الروسى ،ماكسٌم سوكولوف ،اإلثنٌن ،إن سبب تأخر إقالع الرحالت الجوٌة بٌن روسٌا ومصر ٌرجع لعدم توقٌع اتفاق بٌن شركتى «آٌروفلوت» الروسٌة و«مصر للطٌران» بشأن الخدمات األرضٌة. ونقلت شبكة «روسٌا الٌوم» عن الوزٌر الروسى قوله ،اإلثنٌن ،إن «عدم إتمام العمل على توقٌع االتفاقات المناسبة فى مجال الخدمات األرضٌة بٌن البلدٌن ٌبقى سب ابا وحٌداا للتأخٌر ،وبمجرد أن ٌتم ذلك ستمنح هٌئة الطٌران الروسٌة التصرٌح التقنى لبدء الرحالت ،فال توجد أى تقٌٌدات قانونٌة تمنع استئناف االتصال الجوى بٌن البلدٌن». فى سٌاق متصل ،نقلت وكالة اإلعالم الروسٌة عن «سوكولوف» قوله ،اإلثنٌن ،إن روسٌا ومصر قد تستأنفان المحادثات بشأن فحص مطارات البحر األحمر القرٌبة من منتجعى شرم الشٌخ والغردقة خالل الربٌع المقبل ،بعد أن ُتستأنف الرحالت الروسٌة إلى القاهرة. ٌُشار إلى أنه كان من المتوقع أن ُتستأنف الرحالت المباشرة بٌن موسكو والقاهرة اعتبارا من النصف الثانى من فبراٌر الجارى ،بعد أن تم وقفها فى نوفمبر 201٥ بسبب تفجٌر إرهابى أسفر عن تحطم طائرة ركاب روسٌة فوق سٌناء ،لكن صفوت مسلم ،رئٌس «مصر للطٌران» قال فى تصرٌحات صحفٌة ،األسبوع الماضى ،إن الشركة قررت تأجٌل رحالت الطٌران إلى موسكو إلى إبرٌل المقبل ،لحٌن االنتهاء من االستعدادات المالئمة لتحقٌق نسبة امتالء أعلى ،الفتا ا إلى أنه من المخطط تنظٌم 3رحالت أسبوعٌا إلى العاصمة الروسٌة ،وحتى اآلن لم ٌتم طرح الحجوزات.

بدأ منذ قلٌل ،وفد من هٌئة الطٌران المدنى الفٌدرالى األمرٌكٌة ،التفتٌش الدورى على شركة مصر للطٌران للصٌانة ،والذى ٌستمر لمدة ٌومٌن، بغرض تجدٌد اعتماد الهٌئة األمرٌكٌة للشركة. كانت مصادر بشركة مصر للطٌران ،قد قالت فى تصرٌحات سابقة إن الشركة شددت على العاملٌن بضرورة التواجد فى أماكن عملهم بدءا من الثامنة صباحا ،وااللتزام بتطبٌق قواعد وشروط العمل األساسٌة ،مؤكدة أن تفتٌش هٌئة سالمة الطٌران المدنى الفٌدرالى األمرٌكٌة تفتٌش سنوى، العتماد شهادة التشغٌل الخاصة بالشركة. تجدر اإلشارهة إلى أن اللوائح والقوانٌن المنظمة لصناعة الطٌران ،تتٌح لكل هٌئات التفتٌش التابعة للدول مراجعة كل اإلجراءات العتماد شهادات التشغٌل والتعاون والتعامل ،ما ٌعطى مصر الحق أٌضا فى إجراء التفتٌشات والمتابعات على كل المتعاملٌن مع مصر للطٌران ،والمطارات التى تصلها الطائرات المصرٌة ،والمطارات التى تصل منها رحالت لمطارات مصر.

وأضاف المصدر ،فى تصرٌحات خاصة لـ«الدستور» ،أن الوفد األمرٌكى التقى مسئولى شركة مصر للطٌران للصٌانة واألعمال الفنٌة ،حٌث أشاد الوفد بكافة إجراءات السالمة المهنٌة والفنٌة ،وإجراءات السالمة الجوٌة التى تقدمها شركة الصٌانة ،واصفا إٌاها بأنها من الشركات ذات الكفاءة العالٌة والسمعة الطٌبة لدى جمٌع العمالء األجانب ،فضال عن حرص العدٌد من الشركات األجنبٌة والعربٌة واإلفرٌقٌة على التعاقد معها لتقدٌم خدمات الصٌانة واألعمال الفنٌة لطائراتها الموجودة بمطار القاهرة. وأشار المصدر إلى أن التفتٌش األمرٌكى سٌستغرق عدة أٌام ،حٌث من المقرر أن ٌتفقد الوفد األمرٌكى العدٌد من المواقع الكائنة بالمطار وقرٌة المطار. وكان مطار القاهرة الدولى وقرٌة البضائع قد شهد خالل األٌام القلٌلة الماضٌة تفتٌش أمنى برٌطانى ،حٌث تم اإلشادة بكافة اإلجراءات األمنٌة والتأمٌنٌة المتبعة أسوة بالمطارات العالمٌة ،ولم ٌتم كتابة أي تعلٌقات أو مالحظات جوهرٌة.

www.flightglobal.com Airbus and Delta partner in mobile-connectivity scheme Airbus and Delta Air Lines are spearheading a new initiative intended to simplify introduction of, and access to, high-speed data networks for passengers. The initiative, known as the Seamless Air Alliance, intends to enable mobile operators to broaden their reach into airline cabins. These operators will be able to provide customers with services both on the ground and in the air, through the use of satellite technology, improving user experience. But the alliance also aims to "eliminate the immense costs and hurdles" involved in acquiring and installing data-access infrastructure. It will establish open specifications for interoperability and streamline system integration and certification as part of this cost-reduction effort. Airbus and Delta are two of the initial five members of the alliance. The others comprise satellite production and connectivity specialist OneWeb, plus respective US and Indian telecoms companies Sprint and Bharti Airtel. "Easy-to-use, high-speed connectivity is part of the next revolution in aerospace,‖ says Airbus digital transformation officer Marc Fontaine. The airframer has already embarked on an aviation data connectivity programme, Skywise, which it unveiled at the Paris air show last year. Delta Air Lines chief operating officer Gil West says the carrier's passengers have an "expectation" of functioning Internet connections at each stage of a journey. He indicates that its connectivity partner Gogo will also be joining the Seamless Air Alliance. OneWeb already co-operates with Airbus through the formation of a satellite-production venture, OneWeb Satellites, and has been establishing a high-volume manufacturing centre in Florida. Chairman and founder Greg Wyler says it will be launching its first production satellites this year. The venture will manufacture Internet connectivity satellites weighing just 150kg, and claims they will offer "better performance" than larger, more expensive communications satellites. Airbus aircraft production technology, it says, will allow the facility to produce up to three satellites daily.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been eager to put an end to PIA's consistent annual losses, now estimated to be PKK150 million rupees (USD1.35 million) per day. As such, to placate strong unionist and nationalist fervour, he has pledged that government would retain a controlling 51% stake as well as managerial control of the airline. Despite assurances that the sale would be concluded by April 15 as stipulated under the PIAC Conversion Act of 2016, Privatisation Minister Daniyal Aziz has said the entire process, inclusive of studies, RFPs, negotiations, and the actual sale itself, would, in fact, last up to 30 months at the very least. The privatization of the airline was one of the conditions Pakistan accepted as part of a USD6.67billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 2013. An attempt to push the process forward in late 2015/early 2016 through the sale of a 26% stake, met with fierce political as well as workforce resistance. The standoff culminated in a series of strikes that effectively grounded the airline for several days in February 2016 before the sale was called off.

South Africa antitrust watchdog vetoes Airlink/Safair tie-up South Africa‘s Competition Commission has rejected the proposed takeover of Safair Operations (Pty) Ltd. by Airlink (South Africa) (4Z, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) citing anticompetitive concerns. Under the proposed deal announced in November last year, Airlink would have secured control of Safair Operations whose units include ACMI/charter specialist Safair (FA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) and the FlySafair (FA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) budget carrier brand. In return, Safair's shareholder, Irelandbased ASL Aviation Holdings, would have gained a minority stake in Airlink Group. Safair and FLySafair would have continued to operate separately under their unique brands while Airlink‘s existing South African Airways franchise partnership was to have continued as before.
However, the CC said in its ruling issued on Friday, February 23, that the merger would likely result in the removal of an effective competitor to Airlink on the routes which it currently operates. Safair offers competitive prices and has been growing in the market both in terms of its existing routes, as well as recently entering new routes. as the broader South African economy."

Echoing findings raised earlier this month following an inquiry into Airlink's alleged predatory conduct on the Johannesburg O.R. Tambo-Mthatha route, the CC said Safair would likely be a competitive constraint on Airlink bearing in mind its current competitive pricing on competing and non-competing routes. The CC said it had found that there are significant price differences between Safair and Airlink and were the merger to be approved, there was a likelihood of significant price increases. Other issues raised by the CC include the possibility of coordinated effects through the exchange of competitively sensitive information between SAA and Safair (and Airlink) since SAA has a shareholding in Airlink. As Airlink currently operates as an SAA franchisee through branding and scheduled coordination agreements, in the event Airlink/Safairmerger were to be approved, Airlink would be able to adapt Safair's business strategy such that it becomes party to the Airlink/SAA partnership. The CC contends that even if Safair were excluded from these agreements, the fact that SAA has an indirect economic interest in Airlink via its Airlink equity could lead to a dampening in competition between Safair and SAA (and presumably, by extension, South African Express (XZ, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo)). For its part, Airlink and Safair have expressed their disappointment in the CC's ruling adding that they intend to contest the decision and its justification with the Competition Tribunal. "..we will approach the Competition Tribunal for an opportunity to address and allay the Competition Commission‘s concerns (most of which relate to airline operational technical matters) and for the Tribunal to reconsider our application," they said. According to the company head, all criteria for the resumption of air traffic were agreed with Aeroflot leadership in December last year during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the Russian side stressing the importance of security, the qualifications of the personnel working with flights from Russia at the airport of Cairo. The company will use new containers for transportation of luggage, taped off with plastic and set to open only before the luggage is moved inside the plane. Last week, representative of the Egyptian flagship carrier EgyptAir told Sputnik that the resumption of air traffic between the two countries was postponed until April, although it was previously expected to be restored by late February. Earlier this month, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said that the flights between the two countries were on hold because Aeroflot and Egyptian flagship carrier EgyptAir had not signed an agreement on aircraft maintenance. Egyptian Ambassador to Russia Ihab Talaat Nasr told Sputnik in midFebruary that the two companies were working on resuming direct flights and might sign the agreement by the end of February.

Neither company is officially making any statements at this time. Reports in Brazil‘s O Globo newspaper suggest Boeing would hold the majority stake. The JV, if it comes to fruition – and that is by no means certain – would focus purely on commercial aviation and not Embraer‘s defence unit. The talks have been ongoing since late last year, with Embraer‘s position as the world‘s third largest aircraft manufacturer and its strong position in the 70-130-seat regional jet market making it attractive to Boeing, which does not have an airframe in that sector. It is interested in doing so in light of its rival Airbus‘ recent move to acquire Canadian Bombardier‘s CSeries aircraft programme. Boeing‘s initial plan to buy Embraer was rejected outright by the Brazilian government because it did not want a foreign company to control its defence unit for strategic reasons. The government maintains a ‗golden share‘ in Embraer, a former state-owned enterprise, that gives it power of veto over strategic decisions, including Boeing‘s potential tie-up. A joint venture third-party company is seen as the only way a proposal could work. Embraer‘s commercial aircraft chief executive, John Slattery, said at the recent Singapore Airshow that there remained many synergies between the two companies for a potential link-up, but that no one would be saying anything formally while talks continued.

"On Feb 24, 2008, a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 flew from London to Amsterdam with sustainable aviation fuel in one of its engines. The flight demonstrated the viability of drop-in biofuels, which can be blended with traditional jet fuel, using existing airport infrastructure. "A flight completely powered by sustainable fuel has the potential to reduce the carbon emissions of that flight by up to 80 per cent," it said. Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Alexandre de Juniac said the target would not be easy and the association needs governments to set a framework to incentivise production of SAF and ensure it is as attractive to produce as automotive biofuels.....

The push to increase uptake of SAF is being driven by the airline industry‘s commitment to achieve carbon-neutral growth from 2020 and to cut net carbon emissions by 50% compared to 2005. A number of airlines, including Cathay Pacific, FedEx Express, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Qantas, and United, have made significant investments by forward-purchasing 1.5 billion gallons of SAF. Airports in Oslo, Stockholm, Brisbane and Los Angeles are already mixing SAF with the general fuel supply. On the present uptake trajectory it is anticipated that half a billion passengers will have flown on a SAF-blend powered flight by 2025. But if governments, through effective policy, help the sustainable fuel industry to scale-up its production, it is possible that one billion passengers could experience an SAF flight by 2025. The steps needed to deliver this include: Allowing SAF to compete with automotive biofuels through equivalent or magnified incentives Loan guarantees and capital grants for production facilities Supporting SAF demonstration plants and supply chain research and development Harmonized transport and energy policies, coordinated with the involvement of agriculture and military departments. Acknowledging that some sources of biofuels for land transport have been criticized for their environmental credentials, de Juniac emphasized strongly the determination of the industry to only use truly sustainable sources for its alternative fuels. ―The airline industry is clear, united and adamant that we will never use a sustainable fuel that upsets the ecological balance of the planet or depletes its natural resources,‖ he said.

Southwest Airlines Flight 604, bound for Los Angeles International Airport, was only in the air for a few minutes when the pilots became aware of a ―performance issue‖ in the right-side engine and chose to turn around, according to the airline. The entire flight lasted less than than 30 minutes. Witnesses on the ground and on the aircraft told ABC News they saw flames coming from the area of the right engine. The airport also told ABC News that they received reports of fire out of the engine. All 110 passengers and five crew members on board the Boeing 737 landed safely and emergency crews waiting on the tarmac did not need to take any action. Traci Scarce and her two daughters, all of whom were in the plane, told ABC News they heard loud popping sounds before the aircraft began to shake and the lights inside the cabin began to flicker. ―There were sparks and flames coming from outside,‖ she said. ―It sounded like there was a stalling engine.‖ Scarce said the Southwest crew was able to maintain calm inside the cabin. ―It was great,‖ she said. ―Everybody — a lot of praying, holding hands, and they got us back down on the ground.‖ Southwest Airlines said all passengers were swapped into a new aircraft and will land in Los Angeles Monday afternoon.
