EGYPT & CHEVRON: A PARTNERSHIP FOR SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FUTURE An interview with Clay Neff - President, Chevron International Exploration & Production What aspects of Egypt’s business climate and government support make it favourable for foreign investments like Chevron’s? There are several factors that make Egypt an attractive location for Chevron to invest. President El Sisi and the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources—led by Minister Tarek El Molla— have a sound understanding of our industry and are reliable partners. Egypt offers attractive investment terms in a globally competitive environment. Egypt also offers exciting opportunities to potentially meet growing domestic energy demand now and in the future. Last year, we made a discovery in the offshore Nargis block, and we are working with the Ministry and our partners on development concepts. We also have several additional exploration blocks further to the west in the Mediterranean and in the Red Sea. We have acquired related seismic, and we are developing our exploration plans. Egypt is becoming a regional energy hub and has led the effort to develop a collaborative regional organization—the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum—to coordinate efforts for the development of gas resources and unlock the full potential of Eastern Mediterranean offshore natural gas. This organization supports ongoing growth in the regional energy industry, and with demand for energy security growing in Europe, provides lucrative export alternatives in addition to significant opportunities to meet growing local demand.

Can you highlight key milestones and achievements of Chevron’s business in Egypt over the past year? Chevron’s history in Egypt dates to 1937 and today, we are present in all sectors of the value chain; upstream, midstream, and downstream. Our Nargis gas discovery in 2023 added to our energy portfolio in Egypt. We are working together with the Government of Egypt, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and our other partners –

The Eastern Mediterranean region is a priority for us, and Egypt is an important part of our regional portfolio. We believe that our assets in Egypt and the region will play a pivotal role in helping to meet global demand for ever cleaner energy. 14

egypes.com/delreg

Eni and Tharwa – to support the growth of Egypt’s energy sector through our exploration and development program. Over the past year, Chevron has increased its natural gas shipments to Egypt to help meet growing domestic energy demand as well as help position Egypt as a natural gas hub for the region. In addition, from our 100% owned and operated blending plant in 6 October City, we are manufacturing lubricants for a wide range of commercial, consumer, industrial and marine customers in Egypt and are now exporting these lubricants to multiple countries in North Africa, East Africa, and the Middle East. Partnership, innovation, organizational capability, and attractive economic opportunities were the pillars of our success in the 1930s, and they continue to shape our present and future in the country.

Looking ahead, what are Chevron’s aspirations for the future of its business in Egypt? Are there any upcoming projects or initiatives that the company is particularly excited about? We take a long-term view of our investments in Egypt. Our ongoing exploration program and gas sales will continue to expand Egypt’s access to much needed energy. As the world focuses on the energy transition, it is essential we stay focused on safely developing energy solutions that balance economic development and prosperity, energy security, and environmental protection. Chevron will continue to prioritize decisions on investments that are economic and are aligned with our approach to capital discipline. Egypt’s policies make it an attractive option for future investment. The Eastern Mediterranean region is a priority for us, and Egypt is an important part of our regional portfolio. We believe that our assets in Egypt and the region will play a pivotal role in helping to meet global demand for ever cleaner energy. As part of this effort, we are also excited to partner with the Republic of Cyprus in their Offshore Exploration Block 12. We are working with the government in Cyprus to finalise a development plan for the Aphrodite gas field that will send gas to Egypt that can be exported and used to meet domestic demand.

What role do you see innovation and digitalisation playing in your decarbonisation efforts, both globally and within Egypt? Technological capabilities are constantly evolving to meet new challenges and play a key role in bringing new resource opportunities and proven reserves into production. Technological innovations are helping us meet the challenge of producing more energy for a growing world with a lower carbon footprint. The carbon intensity of our East Mediterranean gas is only 2.5 kg per barrel equivalent, which is among the lowest carbon intensities in Chevron’s portfolio and in the world. Chevron is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our traditional business while building material, large-scale New Energies

businesses in hydrogen, carbon capture, renewable fuels, and other emerging technologies like geothermal. We believe that the decarbonisation of our industry is a crucial step to address climate change, therefore we believe collaboration is imperative. For example, in 2023 we began working with the Egyptian government to build local capacity and to share best practices to lower methane emissions. Together, with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, we recognise the importance of this collaboration to expand the Ministry’s knowledge base and advance methane management and a decarbonisation strategy in Egypt. This collaboration includes options for methane and decarbonisation study tours and workshops for Ministry employees, at Chevron facilities, to build awareness of methane control technologies, measurement practices and projects to effectively develop projects to reduce carbon emissions.

The EGYPES conference covers a wide range of topics and areas of focus. Which specific part or session of the conference is Chevron particularly interested in engaging with? What kind of contributions or discussions does the company look forward to participating in? Chevron is here at EGYPES to engage in crucial conversations about the future of energy with industry leaders from across the globe. The conversation about the future of energy is of paramount importance, but it has become too polarised. We need a more pragmatic conversation about energy that balances economic prosperity, energy security and environmental protection. Access to energy helps improve lives by driving human progress and enabling the benefits of modern society. Given global population growth and the need to improve the standard of living, we will need all forms of energy. Chevron will continue to grow our traditional business because the world needs the energy. At the same time, we are taking steps to reduce methane emissions and the carbon footprint associated with our operations. Although we can’t change the system overnight. We must reduce the environmental impact of the energy that the world uses today, and at the same time build new energy systems that can grow and help create a different energy system in the future. We can’t forget that our society in the developed world has been transformed by the availability of reliable and affordable energy. We can’t deny countries in the developing world the opportunity to increase the standard of living for their people by restricting access to these affordable and efficient energy resources. The world needs more energy and addressing this requires thoughtful action and a willingness to work together. Platforms like EGYPES give us the opportunity to listen to each other and share points of view to facilitate future collaboration.

STRATEGIC CONFERENCE

PROGRAMME PILLARS PUSHING DECARBONISATION AND ENERGY TRANSITION – INDUSTRY COMMITMENT

BUSINESS AND OPERATING MODELS OF FUTURE ENERGY SYSTEMS

Since COP27 and now COP28, the industry has been central in driving business models and innovative agendas to decarbonise oil and gas value and supply chains. The critical steps being taken today are moving climate commitments to actions, highlighting the many opportunities that a responsible and just energy transition will unlock. Without doubt, the industry can, will and must do more to shift the dial and accelerate the delivery of future energy systems.

Globally industries, especially energy, are increasingly shifting from resource-led to consumerled, requiring much needed transformation to both business and operating models across the industry. Critical decisions on longevity of legacy businesses are a must, forward-centric adjustments to business portfolios are needed now to enable tough choices on the how, where and what strategies, in combination with building new businesses around green products.

DRIVING CLIMATE CENTRIC FOSSIL FUELS FOR A SMOOTH ENERGY TRANSITION

ENERGY SECURITY AND AFFORDABILITY TODAY VS NET ZERO BY 2050

It’s widely acknowledged future energy ecosystems will be in the form of multiple energy sources and that continued investment in hydrocarbons is a must to ensure a smooth energy transition. In particular, projects that bring oil and gas to market quickly or those that deliver low-carbon, CCUS, GHG, methane reduction and carbon abatement solutions to critical legacy assets and infrastructure. Industry wide, innovative fossil fuel R&D and access to funding must remain a global priority.

Clear enabling policies and frameworks are vitally important, however the reality of achieving net zero targets vs delivering energy security and affordability is complex on all sides of the coin, with opinions, beliefs and points of view ranging considerably on achieving the 1.5°C pathway by mid-century. At the same time, ongoing geopolitical constraints, sanctions and fast approaching winter months are ramping up pressure on countries to lock-in energy supplies from new markets resulting in the continued redrawing of the energy map. Globally, efforts require greater multi-stakeholder collaboration to create a sustainable and secure energy future.

TRANSFORMING FUTURE ECONOMIES AND SOCIETIES - ARE WE IN A POLY OR PERMACRISIS?

THE GREEN, CLEAN AND RENEWABLE ENERGY CONUNDRUM

Global economies and populations continue to struggle with geopolitical constraints, inflation, currency devaluation, recession, rising energy poverty and costs in tandem with increasing extreme weather conditions including wildfires, storms, floods, droughts and heatwaves. With multiple coinciding crises affecting all countries, rich and poor, it is now more important than ever to adopt climate resilience and sustainable economic development strategies, led by bold, articulate government leaders alongside innovators and drivers of cross-industry solutions.

Green, clean and renewable energies across industry and mobility are coming, aided by investments in transformative technologies, the potential is big. Advances in electrification are enabling the replacement of fossil-based technologies supporting deployment of hydrogen and fortifying battery storage options. Likewise, increased industry use of wind and solar is reducing emissions and freeing up valuable gas resources. Scaling up investment in R&D to unlock capability and capacity build out for all forms of energy is a must to deliver upon the potential to mitigate the impacts of climate change and reduce future reliance on hydrocarbons.

meaningful targets by 2030. With the global energy mix shifting from fossil fuel-based systems of energy production and consumption to renewable energy sources, an estimated 200$ trillion in global investments needed to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

Despite renewable energies gaining momentum, they still only account for approximately %6 of the world’s energy consumption. Global energy demand is anticipated to rise through 2050 with oil remaining the largest energy source, investment in oil and gas projects and infrastructure will therefore be vital in ensuring affordable and reliable energy supply throughout this transitional period. Furthermore, geopolitical tensions continue to underline the importance of a more gradual transition, both for energy security and environmental reasons.

A BALANCING ACT: SLB NAVIGATES ENERGY DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP An interview with Sherif Bayoumy, SLB’s Managing Director for Egypt, Sudan and East Mediterranean Congratulations to SLB on being named Service Company of the Year at the 2023 Energy Council Awards! What specific initiatives or achievements do you believe were instrumental in earning this recognition? Additionally, how do you anticipate this award will impact SLB I s business moving forward? SLB is proud to have been selected by the Energy Council as the Service Company of the Year among 375 participant companies representing 40 nations. In fact, this would not have been possible without everyday living our core values of people, technology, and performance. At SLB, we develop new technology that unlocks access to energy for the benefit of all, improving our customers’ performance, adopting new safety and reliability benchmark reducing the emission intensity of our operations. This award is a recognition of our ability to innovate and create value within our core Oil and Gas activity with solid commitments to decarbonisation. This year, we reduced our Scope 1 and 2 carbon intensity by 14%. At the same time, we are continuing to make strategic moves in New Energy businesses adoption. Leaping into 2024, we continue to face the world’s greatest balancing act: meeting the world’s growing energy demands while rapidly reducing harmful emissions. In this context, we believe that the biggest challenges need strong collaboration with the most innovative mindsets and diversity of thoughts.

How has your business developed in Egypt in recent years? Are there any specific projects or collaborations that you are particularly proud of? First, we have been operating in Egypt for more than 85 years. We have accomplished great success with continuous collaboration with our customers in different areas, including the Western Desert, the Gulf of Suez, the Red Sea & Mediterranean. Our strategy aligns with the Egypt modernisation programme, and we are an active supporter of its different pillars, especially the digitalisation journey. In line with this vision, the EGPC group, with SLB as the technical partner, took bold action to establish a world-class National Data Repository (NDR). This project, known as Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG), allows Egypt to preserve, develop, and promote the

country’s natural resources data related to the petroleum Exploration and Production (E&P) sector. Having EUG in operation enhanced prospects of petroleum exploration and facilitated the bid round participation for investment attraction. We are focusing on gas acceleration in addition to being the partner of choice for all deepwater operators via new technology introductions and delivering superior performance. In parallel, as part of our commitment to decarbonising the Oil & Gas industry, we are performing screening and assessment of different CCS sites with encouraging results. Second, we are very proud of our partnerships with our operators in Gulf of Suez, Western and Eastern Deserts to enhance O&G productions via our digital flow twin models, wide range submersible pumps, Open Path Reach systems, and others, which we will elaborate more about during EGYPES. In addition, SLB launched the first Artificial Intelligence (Al) academy accelerating O&G transition in Egypt through a detailed, theoretical and hands on training for programing, machine learning techniques, operations and supported by a capstone project. SLB is also involved in many social and educational projects in the country. As an example, SLB has been recognized as a disability-friendly employer by the Disability Equality Index for the past 2 years. In 2023, we have implemented the Helm Seed Program under the Corporate social responsibility programs of the Ministry of Petroleum and the continuous support of H.E Eng. Tarek el Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for such initiative.

As the world collectively takes action towards decarbonisation and the energy transition, what are your company’s specific plans and strategies to support clients in realizing their targets? At SLB, we have placed the global energy challenge at the heart of who we are, and to solve it, we are embedding sustainability in everything we do. We announced a bold new brand identity, SLB, centered on driving the global shift to sustainable energy production. As a technology leader and an energy innovator, we find this challenge exciting. We’re setting ambitious goals to deliver measurable social and environmental progress, and we’re partnering with customers, suppliers, and peers to accelerate our impact. After building our strategy, we shaped a culture to support it, rooting each of our core values in sustainability, and spent the past year operationalizing our ambitions and delivering strong results across our three priorities: Climate Action, People, and Nature. We are executing roadmaps to decarbonise operations and achieve net-zero emissions while providing in-country value, respecting human rights, and fully embracing all aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Oil and gas operations comprise around 10% of global energy-related emissions. As the first company in the energy services industry to include Scope 3 emissions in our 2050 net zero target, we are making a significant impact throughout the value chain, not only increasing our operational efficiency but

also developing new technologies to help our customers optimise their environmental footprint. We continue to leverage our global scale with localized expertise to deploy custom sustainability solutions in each of our operating areas. Supporting the goal of Oil and Gas Production Enhancement, SLB partnered with Geminus Al and deployed the use of the first physics informed Artificial Intelligence (Al) for oil and gas operations resulting in increased productivity, and carbon emissions minimization.

The inaugural of Future Energy Zone at EGYPES 2024 sparks considerable excitement. As a key player in the energy landscape, what are your expectations for this dedicated space? How do you envision it impacting the industry and propelling the conversation on sustainable energy forward? We are very excited about the new EGYPES Future Energy Zone as a dedicated platform that will allow to feature many solutions and generate conversations around energy decarbonization. Our purpose is to create amazing technology that unlocks access to energy for the benefit of all. As innovators, that’s been our mission for nearly 100 years. Today, it’s a global imperative. We are facing the world’s greatest balancing act — simultaneously reducing emissions while meeting the world’s growing energy demands. We’re working on the answers. Every day, a step closer. Our collective future depends on decarbonizing the fossil fuel industry while innovating a new energy landscape. Our Transition Technologies portfolio play an important role in decarbonising our customers operations. These technologies enable our customers to meaningfully reduce the footprint of oil and gas operations by reducing GHG emissions, water use, and waste, together with five other quantifiable attributes that drive sustainability and support the UN SDGs. Good examples include high-performance water-based mud systems which reduce the embodied carbon related to drilling fluid that is lost to the formation, CemFlT Heal TM cementing solution that contains a reduced proportion of Portland cement compared to standard O&G slurries or TruLinkTM that eliminates the need for stationary surveys, intelligent power management system, proactively manage rig generators, together with battery storage. And last but not least, offshore waste treatment solutions such as the ENVIROUNITTM system reduce the requirement to transport waste for disposal, and others which we will elaborate on during EGYPES. Our portfolio of New Energy solutions represents a balanced approach to industry decarbonisation and clean energy scalability. This includes providing carbon capture, utilization and sequestration (CCUS) solutions to industrial partners; developing an efficient solid oxide electrolyzer technology for clean hydrogen production; deploying storage systems; deploying a sustainable lithium extraction and production process for faster, on-demand and scalable battery-grade lithium production and providing low carbon systems to heat and cool buildings, leveraging 50 years of global expertise in geothermal power projects.

From the perspective of your company, what’s unique about EGYPES 2024?

How has your business in Egypt evolved in the past year? What are the key drivers of growth or challenges faced? Last year, TotalEnergies fully acquired Total Eren to be integrated within the company’s renewables business unit to foster our prowess in this field. In addition, we have successfully finalised the rebranding of 10 service stations to ADNOC Distribution introducing a new brand to the Egyptian market. And speaking about the lubricants department, the company has recently introduced new products tailored

past year, the co m p a ny ’s primary focus has been on c o n d u c ti n g business in a m ore sustainable manner. This commitment is evident through various initiatives aimed at achieving a remarkable 70% reduction in energy consumption at the oil blending plant by the end of 2024. Furthermore, we actively support our customers with fuelefficient products and solutions, aiding them in minimizing fuel consumption and operational expenses.

I think what’s unique about EGYPES 2024 is that it was rebranded to Egypt Energy Show this year, which further solidified its identity and highlighted the importance of renewable energies. It matches perfectly with TotalEnergies’ entire portfolio of activities in Egypt.

Anticipated to persist into 2024, these disruptions are further compounded by the escalating pressure of increasing costs.

What role can international companies like yours play in supporting Egypt’s energy ambitions? TotalEnergies’ sustainability strategy aligns with Egypt’s Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy (ISES 2035). We have signed protocols with GASTEC and CARGAS to add CNG services to our stations. Our commitment to sustainability and specifically consuming less and better energy within the company culminated in solarising 50% of our stations and Marsa Alam aviation fuel depot. TotalEnergies Marketing Egypt markets a wide range of automotive and industrial lubricants. A significant portion of those products are proudly made in Egypt according to TotalEnergies’ international standards using both imported and local base oils along with imported additives. Throughout the

Despite facing numerous global and regional supply challenges, TotalEnergies Marketing Egypt has maintained its position as a reliable supplier of highquality lubricants to its customers, thanks to the efficiency of our supply chain.
