Adelaide Oval Cox Architects Rhino plugin, Grasshopper, was integral in designing the new grandstand for Adelaide Oval. In what would have otherwise become a tedious manual task, Cox Architects easily adjusted parametres in the program to best provide for patrons of the stadium. Variables such as latitude and hour of the day found the exact shadow on the stand at a point in time, in order to shape the structure. If I was to test this practice in my approach I could have a more intimate understanding of how my object would affect passers by - whether it be through the study of sun or other means.
Town Hall Hotel Rare Architects In the case of this century-old building, parametric design and technology has aided in restoration. This otherwise “at-risk” structure was left to decay in 1993, but interest by hotel magnate Peng Loh gave the building new life.
“Wrapped entirely by a laser cut powder coated aluminium skin, no windows or doors are externally visible, allowing it to create a striking abstract backdrop to the original structure, while simultaneously making a definite statement as new architecture.” Similar aspects useful for my design will be the use of computation in order to produce perforations in a durable material. Headpiece Studio Virtual Environments
Personal When working with Google Sketchup to create the Headpiece model, it was important to understand how the effects of adjusting one point on the model would have immediate consequenses. Although capable of producing paramaetric models, Sketchup was merely for computerization of an existing design. this is as opposed to “computation”, which creates a design out of paramaters rather than someone’s personal taste. I feel that a more sophisticated program such as Grasshopper will bring the greater amount of complexity to my new design that I am aiming for.
