MYTHOLOGY AND GREECE I- THE GODS The Greek gods lived in Olympus with the whole family and friends. Many times, the gods had children with human women. The children were semi gods.

Hera and Zeus were brothers, and also husband and wife. They had two sons, Hephaestus and Ares. Zeus, the infidel, had many children: Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Aphrodite, Hermes and Dionysus.

The gods: There were many gods who lived in the old Olympus. The principal gods were: Cronos: He was the son of Uranus (Heaven) and Gaea (Earth), he was the king of the Titans and the father of Zeus. For fear of being mauled by his own sons, he devoured them just after Rhea, his wife, gave birth. She hid her last child, Zeus, and gave Cronos a stone wrapped in cloth. When Zeus was adult, helped by the Cyclops, the dethroned Cronus and forced him to return the children who he had eaten. He personified time with the two symbols: the scythe and the ended hourglass. Rhea: She was the daughter of Uranus and Gaia, sister and wife of Cronus and mother of Demeter, Hades, Hera, Hestia, Poseidon and Zeus. She is strongly associated with Cybele because she used to be represented in art works in a chariot by two lions.

Zeus: In Greek mythology, Zeus was the "father of gods and men", who ruled the gods of Mount Olympus as a father to a family, so that even those who were not their natural children addressed him as such. He was the god of sky and thunder. His symbols were the thunderbolt, the eagle, the bull and the oak.

Hera: In Greek mythology, Hera was a goddess of Olympus, second wife of Zeus and the mother of Hebe, Eris, Hephaestus, Ares and Eileithyia. She was the goddess of marriage. She is characterized by anger and the thirst for vengeance caused by the constant infidelities of her husband. He enshrined the peacock, because in its feathers we can see the hundred eyes of Argos, faithful servant of the goddess.

Poseidon: Poseidon was the brother of Zeus and god of the sea, horses and earthquakes.

Hades: Hades was the god of the dead and lord of the underworld. Precious minerals come from his kingdom.

Demeter: Daughter of Cronus and Rhea, and therefore older sister of Zeus. Greek goddess of agriculture, quickening of life and death, and protector of marriage and the sacred law venerated as the "bringer of seasons".

Ares: He was the god of war. Son of Zeus and Hera. The Romans identified him with Mars. Ares is moody, brutal and bloody.

Hefaestus: He was the god of fire and the forge and blacksmiths, artisans, sculptors, metals and metallurgy. He was worshiped in all manufacturing and industrial centers of Greece, especially in Athens. An approximate equivalent in Roman mythology was Vulcan. Hephaestus was quite ugly and lame. It’s even said that, at birth, Hera found him so ugly that threw him from Olympus. He walked with the aid of a stick.

Athena: In Greek mythology, Athena was the goddess of wisdom and crafts such as weaving and pottery. She was also goddess of war, but in its strategic perspective, because the god of battle and blood was Ares.

Aphrodite: In Greek mythology, Aphrodite was the goddess of love, beauty and marriage. She was the most beautiful goddess and almost nobody could resist her charms. Zeus was humbled by her love for a mere mortal, Anchises. By order of Zeus, she was the wife of Hephaestus, an ugly and lame god, but she was infidel and had love affairs with Ares and Hermes.

Hermes: Hermes was the son of Zeus and Maya, one of the Pleiades, daughter of Atlas. He was the Olympian Messenger and the god of boundaries and of the travelers who cross them, of shepherds and herds, speakers and ingenuity of the writers and poets, of athletics, of weights and measures, of invention and trade in general, the cunning of thieves and liars.

Appollo: Rrecognized as the god of the light and the sun, the truth and prophecy, archery, medicine and healing, music, poetry and art, and more. Apollo was the son of Zeus and Leto and twin brother of the chaste huntress Artemis. Medicine and healing were associated with him, either directly or through his son Asclepius.

Artemis: daughter of Zeus and Leto and the twin sister of Apollo. Artemis was the goddess of hunting, wild animals, virginity and young women and she alleviated the diseases of women.

Dionis: God of wine, the inspirer of madness and ecstasy, and an important figure in Greek mythology although the geographic origins of his cult are unknown. He is the patron of agriculture and the theater.

Zeus In Greek mythology Zeus is the "Father of Gods and men who ruled the Olympians of Mount Olympus . He was the god of sky and thunder in Greek mythology. His symbols are the thunderbolt, eagle, bull, and oak Zeus was the child of Cronus and Rhea, and the youngest of his brothers. Zeus’ wife was Hera, and they had 3 children: Hefest, Hebe and Ares. The parents of Zeus are Cronus and Rhea. Zeus is famous for having conquered many women. Childhood: Rhea hid Zeus in a cave on Mount Ida Creta. Cronos was the father of: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon, but Cronos swallowed them when his sons were born. For this reason Hera hid Zeus in a cove and give a stone to Cronos and he swallowed the stone.

jokes A charlatan horoscope made one of his clients saying that he can never have kids. "But I have seven!"-what the charlatan responds, "then look after them well. " A adberita followed the ritual of burning his dead father. Soon ran home and cried to his long-suffering mother: "There is very little wood. If you want to stop suffering, jump on the pyre, "it is worth adding that the Greeks did not want much to adberitas of Thrace. What is the height of being lazy? Get up two hours before, to spend more time doing nothing. ________________________________________________________
