CHAPTER 4 ‘As you know today is my birthday. I’m 70 now. I wanted you all to be here because I need to explain you something important. Last month I visited my lawyer to write my will. I’ve been a successful business woman and I’m quite rich now. I want you all to inherit part of my richness’ Kate said. ‘Sarah and Jane, as you are my only daughters you’re going to inherit the major part of my will divided in equal parts. Tom, I want you to inherit our countryside cottage in Scotland. Marge had always loved it and you have always enjoyed fishing by the lake’ ‘Mum, you shouldn’t be talking about that’ Sarah interrupted.’ I don’t care about your money’ ‘Sarah is right quite. You’re quite young, there’s no need to talk about your will’ Uncle Tom said. At the same moment the phone rang. It was John. Kate left the room and went to the kitchen to be alone. ‘What’s the problem John?’ I thought that you didn’t want to see me anymore. What do you want now?’ Kate asked. ‘I just wanted you to know that I’ve been to the police to explain some of your dirty tricks with your business. I’m sure that they are going to investigate you. I have also talked about James Morrison’ John said. ‘But why John? You’ve earned a lot of money with me. Why are you doing this to me now?’ Kate said angrily. ‘You should know, Kate. You should know. If you want to know more, come and meet me near the lake in half an hour’-John said quickly. ‘Ok. I’m coming’. Kate left the kitchen in a hurry, took her coat, scarf and gloves and walked to the lake. It wasn’t far from home so she didn’t take the car. She didn’t want anyone to know that she was leaving home.
