On December 10th, myself and my sister headed to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin for the Christmas Queens’ show, starring seven of the RuPaul queens from various seasons.

The show, which is produced by Voss Events and Producer Entertainment Group, is currently touring Europe, where it will close in Helsinki on 22nd December.

The show was hosted by Season 8 winner, Bob The Drag

Queen, who did an amazing job presenting, and has a really great sense of humour and fun, which added so much to the show.

Also on the bill was the Season 4 winner, Sharon Needles, Season 3 finalist and current All Stars 4 contestant, Manila Luzon, Season 4’s Jiggly Caliente, and Season 10 finalists, Kameron Michaels, Asia O’ Hara, and Eureka.

The comedy-musical show was filled with much glamour, and brilliant theatrics. When Asia O’ Hara was singing ‘Cause I’m Rich, which was a wonderfully theatrical jazzy performance, she wore a beautiful green dress, which was a fashion highlight, as was Bob’s golden jumpsuit, which I equally loved.

Many of the performances had video-screens behind them, which tied in wonderfully with the mini-holiday ‘question and answer’ sessions, which were put on in-between performances.

There was a wonderful array of various genres, like Jazz, R&B, Big Band, Country, Disco, and Funk performed, in both lip-syncs and live. Kameron is a great singer, and I’m really looking forward to future music from her. She’s a great performer too, and can do pretty much anything, from the faster Let It Snow, to the slow Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

During the show, Manila Luzon’s music video for It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year was played in the background during her performance of the song. She is a great performer, and I’m sure she will smash All Stars 4. There was also great social commentary throughout, often with great humour.

When Sharon mentioned how great our recent abortion referendum result was, that was a very nice moment in the show. She brought a great gothic Christmas moment to proceedings too, with Brothers in Our World.

I found myself admiring Bob a lot during this show. She had a lot to do, to say the least, and really was the glue that pieced together all the elements of the evening.

The quiz was a particular highlight, where eleven people went up on stage to answer questions posed by Bob, about either RuPaul’s Drag Race trivia, or Christmas trivia, with prizes from Tesco on offer.

It was a wonderful evening of glitzy, campy, Christmas fun, with excellent performances from everyone involved.
