This is the stuff that dreams are made of
an experiment on collective living
u_topic Throughout human history our predominant ways of living have been collective. As a matter of fact it is relatively recently that modern society has adopted the individualistic concept of independent living as a norm. Over the last few years there seems to be an increasing interest in collective living. In spite of this, however, the construction of collective housing is scarce. With our project we want to trigger the idea of a more communal way of living. social, economical and environmental levels. Collective housing is a form of housing that imbeds something additional compared to the private residence. An ample sharing of spaces and activities alters the framework of life and opens up to the formation of new and different kinds of relationships, possibly with a stronger sense of responsibility for and solidarity with each other. The choice of country is Sweden due to its strong tradition and history of collective living. We have selected an existing building for our project which we have transformed according to our vision of a collective home. The building is located in Midsommarkransen, just southwest of the city centre of Stockholm and has served as a telecommunication station since the first part was built in the late 1930's. The project are a suitable alternative for designing homes, as part of a strategy to link people together. A project were sharing spaces, knowledge and dreams with others constitute the very foundation of collective and individual growth as we see it.

we have a dream We believe that space has a major influence on how we perceive our daily life. In a world where individualism is highly rated, which is reflected in our built environment, we are searching for new models for building design, that will enable alternative ways of living. That is, homes that enrich collective thinking, encourage joint responsibility and strengthen the ties between people. Homes that also provide every person with the opportunity to contribute to something greater, something that implicates several generations. Homes that guide our individual thoughts towards an all-encompassing we-mentality. A form of dwelling which opens up for a radically new way of living, in true community, this is our dream for today’s society.

Silo Blance A stage for contemporary dance
Complex context Rethinking place - strategy and action Bergen, fall 2014 This year Bergen will be the field of interest and interventions for the Complex context course. Issues and project work will be within the frame of living conditions in Bergen. An important and intensive part of the course will be making a study trip to Amsterdam. Culturally and historically Bergen and Amsterdam has strong relations. Amsterdam has a complex and multi-layered fabric, which we have analysed and acted in as architects during the study trip. We have walked, biked, explored and experienced the city together for about one week in September 2014. Amsterdam with its cultural, political, historic and physical fabric is in a dynamic state of change and formation. The city territory has been established by human practices over a long, intensive and contradictory timeline. Being back in Bergen we will experience, draw and make models of city territories and initiate architectural proposals to interventions in different sites. Profound and careful understanding of place becomes our instrument and point of departure for the development of architectonic ideas and search of clear tectonic and spatial strategies that has a direct relationship with the place where they belong.

The Norwegian national company of contemporary dance, Carte Blanche is based in Bergen, and was established in 1989. The company tours in Norway and internationally, and consist of 12-15 dancers from all over the world. Every season new program is created in cooperation with internationally renowned choreographers and artists with a critical eye on the society. Starting out with the white silo on Hegreneset as site, - the focus in this project is to create a new arena for Carte Blanche. The silo takes aim on offering all facilities necessary in relation to produce a professional performance; stage, working space for carpentry, painters, electricians etc. The complex also contains accommodations aimed to house dancers and choreographers visiting Bergen, a bar and lobby for the audience, ticket office and administration. The form of the stage is inspired by the mountainous landscape outside. The stage can be applied in various ways, and gives the audience the possibility to situate themselves where they want and move around as the performance takes place.

Duration Dilation Enter the void NKD villa Fagerheim AD_HOC TRANSFORM _ Dale, spring 2014 Oddleif Fagerheim and named Villa Fagerheim after its owner. Situated on a hill, 75 meters above the sea level, overlooking the village Dale. A boarderschool that never became relized. A 44 year old building that has started to decae. Planned in the 60´s by the architect Listesund and erected in 1970. At an uncertain point in time, fungus and mold have infected the villa, making it unlivable. The last occupant was Arild H. Eriksen who moved out 2009 due to the unsafe state of the villa. The Villa is approximately 500 sqm large and consists of 38 rooms in total. How can one understand it? What can be done with it? This is an assembly of material studying Villa Fagerheim. it contain photos, drawings and collages, depicting both a subjective and objective view of its history and its current situation. It is looked upon in relation to architectural spaces in its local contex. The mastercourse NKD Villa Fagerheim initiated by BAS has a duration of 22 weeks which ends in a proposal for the future use of the villa.

Think Tank Bergen ƖƖ Density studies - Exploring peripheral urban ecologies Sandsli, spring 2013 The site for the course is Sandslimarka, in the south corridor of Bergen where step 1 of Bergen Bybane (tramway) is built and step two is planning. This course has looked at how new type of workspace can built-up the critical mass to generate the diversity needed to create more diverse and sustainable neighbourhood. When looking at Arna last year, we establish that housing only, in the way it has been developed around Bergen for the last half century, is not sufficient to produce forward looking environment since they are mainly mono-functional and rely on intense commuting from the people living there. We also established that older industrial estate reused by creative industry is one stream of work we would like to further develop. The second one has to do with recent industry, whether related to food production or more importantly on the oil industry in its largest scope (shipping, drilling... not just refining) that triggers a very broad network of companies. To some extent this is the drivers of the studio, looking at how business can cluster and become more diverse to integrate more public component in order to transform purely industrial space into living space. Thus merging housing stock one on side and monofunctional business park on the other. We first look at precedents of this recent changing trend before we move onto Sandslimarka. In studying precedents, we have looked at mature city fabric such as London (study trip) to see how cities are able to bring together those diverse actors into an urban form. Cases like the new masterplan of King´s cross, the lower Lea valley, Chiswick business park, Soho was a part of the program. The reasoning will be operating at two scales, architectural and urban with an emphasis of the Ground as space of contingence.

Statoil´s future role in Sørvika valley Statsnett has together with the Dutch company TenneT started to build a “super” electricity network that connects the North Sea to the Northern part of Europe. The first phase is under development, constructing a 580 Km long electrical cable from Norway to the Netherlands. EU has announced that in 2020, 20% of the electricity produced must come from renewable source. To realize this; large windmill parks with a supporting electrical cable network is under development in the North Sea.
