“Reinamontes’ illustrations are powerful, have a lot of character, and at the same time they’re young and fresh. They bring a strong visual narrative to the novel in a comic-cinematographic way. It’s definitely a very particular style with a deep effect on the reader”. Ana Nebreda. Biblioabrazo “We can’t help but surrender to this graphic novel that is read from the inside and the outside simultaneously; from the personal perspective of a journal and, at the same time, describing the fear, organization, resistance, cold and hunger, political and ideological debates, and the small triumphs in a students protest. It’s a risky, smart novel”. Fundación La Fuente “The narrative construction is complex and filled with images, digressions and descriptions; the characters have a wide range of visions and behaviors, showing the school as a small social system”. The phenomenon of human mobility is as old as humanity. Why then, and since when, has migration come to be seen as a “problem” in many societies? This book provides a starting point to understand migration, showing that its so-called problems are not related to the people themselves, but rather with the systems and structures within which they exist. These include the contradictions upon which economic systems are built, the ways in which xenophobia and fear of change appear in society, and how these are used politically. Our world has been transformed by migration patterns in the spheres of labor, commerce, cultural identity and nationalism. At the same time, migration and migrants will be affected in the future as new political, social and technological struggles transform the world with unprecedented speed and intensity. There are contradictions that we must contend with. For example, between a world that is supposedly defined by global circulation of people, goods and ideas, and a world increasingly defined by more borders, frontiers and lines of delimitation. But a comprehensive understanding of migration will enable us to engage with something very personal: ourselves. It will help us engage with our ability to live together with others and manage individual and group social change. And this could enable us to transform our ways of relating with those who are both similar to and different from us at the same time, humans engaged in the same process of coexistence in our planet.
