DEMOCREATIVE

aims to create a space that reframes civic engagement and fosters creativity in a way that inspires local residents to become active in their community

the journey

We have organized our program in a strip logic that encourages the user to walk through each program, be it library or civic space, and be exposed to new ideas regardless of which program they came to use. An open air space for the library places this key program at the heart of our building while also allowing for sight lines and easy staff access.

reframe libraries

Libraries are more than just buildings holding books; every book allows readers to gain new experiences unbeknownst to them prior to entering the space. Our design includes the expected stacks as well as adaptable spaces needed for renewed emphasis on civic engagement and a focus on creative community interaction.

THE CIRCLET

A building within a building represents sustainable efforts in the process of restoring and reinvigorating this struggling neighborhood.

13

a look inside

A children’s center, technology library, and a variety of apartment sizes are included within The Circlet. The children’s center will allow those living in the building and the surrounding community to come work, use the available technology, or learn resume building skills while their children are under other adult supervision.

modeling

This model is interactive as it allows observers to remove entire floors to see the footprint of that individual level and what the interior spaces look like. The model was also built entirely from home as this project took place during the second half of 2020.

connectivity

Our design aims to create a sense of synergy between old, new, natural, and built environments allowing creativity, productivity, and inspiration to prosper. A public courtyard, occupiale balconies, and green rooftops encourage users to indulge in the natural environment. While the spread out programmatic elements and an appealing central stair promote cross disciplinary interactions.
