Since the start of the pandemic and the many changes that have resulted from it, several issues have come to the forefront for museums and archives. One of these is the now massive demand for virtual content and digital access to historical resources. The Antique Boat Museum is currently working through a small-scale digitization plan and is thrilled to announce that through the gift of a very generous museum benefactor and supporter, a state-of-the-art Digitization Laboratory by Digital Transitions Cultural Heritage is now part of the ABM tool kit. Located in the southeast corner of the Curatorial Studio, this system now allows museum staff to quickly digitize both flat and three-dimensional objects. Large objects, such as some of the Scripps Technical Legacy Data documents that measure six feet by four feet, can now be digitally captured in minutes; a process that previously took days and involved hundreds of individual photographs that had to be stitched together. Equipment like the Digitization Laboratory is typically not found outside a large university setting and we are most fortunate to have it on-site. It allows us to share more archival material in response to research requests and preserve historical resources for generations to come.

The Scripps Collection is now available online through Past Perfect. If you click, it will take you to the Advanced Search page. Scroll down to the empty space below "Collection" and type in Scripps and that will bring up all the records that have been scanned and catalogued in the past year.
