Design + Research Studio Spring 2019 Individual Project Professor: George Johnston This thesis challenges the way we have been thinking about architecture, and how the things we do today serve a foundation for tomorrow. I propose the design of adaptable service modules to address the housing needs of the community and to serve as frameworks for long term recovery working within existing urban fabrics. Temper is the reinterpretation of Pliny’s villas based on sensory experiences described in the letter to Gallus, taking temperature as topic of study. It is a preamble to the next project or it can be viewed on its own. 08

Design + Research Studio Fall 2018 Individual Project Professor: John Peponis
Located in the coast of Kardamyli, Greece the study and creation wcenter features essentially two buildings within the Patrick and Joan Fermor site. The first volume are dwellings and the second one is the maker space which extends seamlessly to a small agora upfront.

Towards the south side of the site is the Fermor’s house connected by a straight path to the maker building, aligned with the olive grove. Another path cuts its way through a landscape of trees of different color and shades and hugs seats in stone that look as if they emerged from the ground.

Descending the plaza stairs you encounter the lounge, between the chambers and study space framing the views as if it were living paintings. Submerging into the bedroom chambers the first thing you see is an indoor garden so vibrant and full of color you can almost forget were you are. Glimpses of light and the sky are seen through the walls.

Portman Studio Spring 2018 Team: Razan Altiraifi, Rucheng Guo Professor: Jen Pindyck Located in the heart of the Amicalola Falls, GA the proposal extends the interface between ecology and architecture into immersive technologies. This began by looking at communication methods and the transfer of information historically.

STRUCTURE The structure is made of the wood harvested on site. Acting as a bridge on top of the river, the project is accesed through the street onto an enclosed vessel which is the immersive space.

CENTER FOR LAND USE
As the visitor weaves through the wooden columns, they not only feel the microenvironments but see the effect on the live data feed. For example, as they experience the difference in temperature between a shaded area and an area exposed to direct sunlight, their experience is confirmed and augmented by the data projected around them. The extraction site from which the wood comes for the construction of the center serves as a research outpost for the Center for Land Use History and Ecological Interpretation. Sensors and cameras are also placed throughout site three to collect information regarding the effects of the extraction and regrowth. This extractin site information is alsopart of the display in the enclosed immersive environment and the live data feed bridge.

Upon entering the enclosed immersive environment, imagery is projected on all surfaces. The visitor winds around, completely removing them from the outside environment, until they emerge to a breathtaking view of the waterfall beyond.
Looking towards the vessel
As they begin their journey, they enter the live feed bridge; seeing, smelling and hearing the natural environment around them. This experience is enhanced by live data projected throughout captured from sensors placed within the environment, reminding the visitor that this is an educational and research center.

CONCEPT A transition from tangible to invisible based on the book as an object in contrast with the modern day technology. COLLISION FURNITURE
Elementary Architecture Design Spring 2014 Team: Isaac Mangual Professor: Edgardo Arroyo
A chair and an ottoman, based on the number four. Made from two panels of half an inch marine plywood. It’s the result of new ways to build with wood, contrasting the lightweightness of its interior with the thickness of the frame. It can be assembled in 10 minutes and the estimated cnc cutting time is two hours.

The designed emerged from the testing of multiple ergonomic structures, through a variery of iterations with materials and jointing techniques. The result is a combination of marine plywood with hidden nuts and bolts inside the frame for a clean and seamless elevation.
