The design of this living room is based on the inspiration from the great nature, the wide sea and waves, grass under sunrise, woods with raw veins, zen pebbles and freshness of fruits etc. It is also greatly affected by the Benjamin Graindorge’s project, which combines the elements of nature and artifice perfectly and shows modern aesthetics, like the bench shown on the left. Natural elements can be found in the design as the green wall, pebble underneath stairs, stone textured steps and peddle like organic-shaped light. Besides the elemental inspirations, the style of this design gets a bit from the historical Japanese style and a bit of Bauhaus style. Japanese style emphasis on horizontal lines and minimization, which presents peaceful harmony. In this design, I use timber plank to form a horizontal line across the ceiling, and the position of furniture in a row with the line, hoping to give the harmonious feeling. In terms of Bauhaus, I choose furniture in relatively obvious and angular shapes such as the square sofa, square wooden stools as coffee table, round rug and peddle like pendant light. In Bauhaus style, there is also an implied rule to match up colors and shape, that is, circle in blue, square in yellow and triangle in red. This also inspires my choice of color palette for the furniture. Other style seen in this design is the industrialization that polished concrete floor and rough light concrete wall are used.

Aqua is a seafood tapas bar serving fast seafood, with tropical cocktails and a moving restaurant in a truck container, bringing the taste of sea to local suburban areas. Having a philosophy of using recyclable material, cardboard is the main decorative material to be dismantled, installed and replaced easily, utilizing its unique cutting shape, lightweightness, and stability in certain grid structure. The restaurant can allow 32 people sitting indoor while the outdoor decking increase more flexibility and possibilities. Kitchen is positioned as a ‘L’ shape adjacent to restaurant, one end serving as cocktail bar, the other as kitchen food delivery path. To match the theme, bones and wave curves.

Bloom Florist Pop-Up Kiosk Design: The proposed florist kiosk ‘Blooms’ is the business expansion from an upmarket and bridal florist. The concept of my design is inspired by the florist name itself, blooms. The design is a combination of glass green house and the surrounding timber ‘pedals’ that can open like flower blossom and close at night. Their edges are not exactly vertical but sloping to the same direction with same angle, like the twisting pedals. The chunks are overlapping with each other, being able to combined together like two pieces of puzzles. When the kiosk closes, we can push them together and towards the glass house in the center, which simultaneously block the entrance, acting like a door. When the kiosk opens, the chunks are separated, opening the door while forms gaps between each other, which becomes shelves for the florist to put the flowers on. This process is made easier by an invisible hidden wheels under the timber chunks. Light bulbs will be hung with various lengths mixed with glass balls with either potted plants or dried flowers in to add more ambience to the kiosk.

AIRBNB HUB GROUND LEVEL COMMUNITY BAR: Airbnb is an online platform to encourage people sharing spare rooms to travelers, to connect people with different background, and to build a community sense of belonging. In this design, soft home elements and local community’s historical style are widely blended. Adopted hero color is the salmon pink from the brand’s logo image, going with the sky blue and contrast to various textures and finishes. Ground level is mainly a hospitality area with café bar at the room center and two feature walls on both sides----Victorian pressed plaster tile wall and wall to ceiling bookcase of travelling related books for casual readers. At the end of the room is a sun-drenched interior green garden with lift-up decking, recessed sofa seatings and spacey void that is as high as to the top roof’s skylight. The first level brick wall is exposed with green systems and matching historical styled arch windows, overseeing from the office to this indoor garden.

FIRST FLOOR OFFICE AREA: Step up to the first level is the Airbnb office. A custom made logo shaped tea table placed on strengthened glass floor has spotlight installed underneath to project a visible signage on ground floor in form of a shadow. Other features include a kitchenette emphasizing line repetition by curving L shape timber battens; DIY peg wall panels in soft grey felt and light maple finish; Victorian arch windows stop at the void and look down to the indoor garden, at herringbone decking for staff breakout; a think tank inspired by movie directing scene with projecting screen, light box and director style chairs, and what worths a mention most is the glass cube meeting room built on top of storage. It goes above and cuts through the roof, appearing a house shape due to the existing pitched roof, but exposed as a cube from building exterior

Chur Burger Cocnept Board - Summer

CHUR BURGER

HOSPITALITY FITOUT DESIGN: Chur Burger is a casual boutique burger cafe established by the award winning chef, Warren Turnbull for his love of burger and beer. Warren and his business partner Grant are brothers from New Zealand and have deep root of Kiwi Island culture and would like to bring their culture to the local artisan suburb, Surry Hills in Sydney where the predominant style is street, rustic and industrial. shop due to their expansion vision on other fast chain shops, we are given a challenge on using less costly material while creating a new vibe to refresh the customers. Via research on New Zealand features, I provide two concept boards which largely differ in themes, one as Summer theme in oceanic beach style, while another as Winter theme in snowy mountain and earthy style, that best showcast New Zealand’s beautiful natural scenic treasure. Material wise, most joineries are made of MDF board, rustic recycled surf boards and paddles, recyclable cardboard and corkboard. To blend in local vibrant culture, industrial brick wall and some funky cardboard animal head decor. Shop front will also be retroduce art on the heritage building wall, to present a contract and combination of youth culture and local heritage structures.
