The circulation crevice is filled with natural light to orient the occupant and emphasize where they started in their journey. The facility provides the patients with a comprehensive gym addressing all parts of the physical rehabilitation process. As well as an aquatic rehabilitation area which houses exercise equipment inside the pool. These components are strategically located to maximize natural light while providing privacy for the patients, while they heal their Bodies.

The building attempts to blur the lines between the different stages of the physical rehabilitation process. Transparent interiors and a continuous outdoor-toindoor architectural language become part of the rehabilitation journey.

The 32,300 SF project is a comprehensive expansion of the existing Cancer Center. The design concept is driven by the desire to provide a lakefront view for each patient. It utilizes a series of transformations to achieve undisturbed views of the lake. The project aims at blurring the edge between the building and the natural environment creating a panoramic experience for the patient.

The design of the lakeside garden and the outdoor terrace complements the architecture based on the same fluid geometries. The interior architecture completely transform the patient experience with clean and bright spaces, views to nature and natural light.

BASIC MASSING Typical high-rise extrusion.
DISSECT Split the mass into two bars.
MODIFY Create elevated cavity to provide public urban escape.
EXPLODED Exploded programmatic elements.
The building is located in a prominent downtown block flanked by Interstate 4 and CSX railroad tracks to the East. The programmatic components are stacked vertically; the massing of the tower however is broken down into two vertical slabs with a glass curtainwall gasket in between. The taller of the slabs contains the Hotel components at the top. The shorter slab stops at the hotel amenity floor. The Sky Lobby provides a public urban escape for the city of Orlando.

The building tries to relate to people from the scale of both pedestrian and automobile. The West bar is treated in glass to address the high speed nature of the Interstate. The main glass curtainwall acts as a veil, sometimes revealing what is behind it. The metal panels of the garage relate to the Amway Center across Interstate 4. The East bar stops at the hotel amenity floor. The scale and materiality of the architectural moves changes to address the more pedestrian side of downtown.
