Featured cover What is Human Centric Lighting? Human centric lighting is defined by Lighting Europe as a type of art creating lighting that can benefit the productivity, biological, emotional, health, or wellbeing of people. This is achieved by dimming the smart light source, most likely an LED, to mimic the levels of sunlight throughout the day. Consumer products with the benefit of an optimized costperformance ratio. Professional products with best-in-class reliability and performance.
3
Humans have been on planet Earth for millions of years and evolved under patterns of natural light. And yet, in a relatively very short space of time – around 150 years – artificial light has decoupled us from the natural environment and natural light. It is this connection that Human Centric Lighting to raise awareness about the importance of light, to stop people taking light for granted or treating it as a commodity.
What are the positive non-visual effects when the lighting is correct? Short-term bursts of cool white and intensive light may increase your concentration, without you knowing it. Or make you feel sleepier at night because you have shifted your daily rhythm a bit. Both are positive effects that you perhaps do not notice immediately, or at all.
4
Human Centric Lighting can be applied in diverse fields from private homesو, وschools and hospitals, to offices and manufacturing sites. In terms of health care for example, research has shown that providing illumination closer to natural lighting could play an important part of care and recovery, restoring sleep patterns or improving eating habits. In schools, both pupils and teachers could also benefit. Elsewhere the potential of Human Centric Lighting has also been jumped on by athletes, particularly those who train in winter months in need of a boost or those that travel regularly and suffer from jet lag. Research is also being conducted regarding its application for space travel.
One of these is the younger generation. Young people do everything with their smartphones, they also want to control their environment a lot more and are less afraid of digital stuff. In another age category, the rising age of retirement, combined with inevitable deterioration of eyesight over time, will also increase demand for better quality lighting in the workplace. If you look to the past, all big changes just took a generation for people to get used to them, the Human Centric Lighting will be commonly and generally applied 25 years from now
Elames has partnered with leading manufacturers of technical & decorative lighting both indoor and outdoor fittings that specialized in luminaires or smart lighting for the ever changing lifestyle of people.
