A Glorious Gathering

The New Look of Traditional Color WRITTEN BY Taylor Proctor PHOTOS BY Photo Love Stories

Summer - the season for travel, adventure, and celebration. Which explains why summer is also the time of year for weddings and family reunions. According to a recent survey of professional event planners, mega-gatherings of such are on the rise. As extended families relocate across the country and overseas, the stronger the effort is being made to preserve certain traditions including family reunions. Whether it’s a wedding that brings your loved ones together or a reunion itself, honoring the American family has been embraced with fervor. Patriotism towards our homeland and the freedoms we enjoy can be infused by incorporating the colors of the ‘Red, White and Blue!’ Taylor Proctor, of Taylor Made Weddings and Events in southern Utah says summer is the perfect time to combine a wedding, reunion, and celebrate the American way. “When I think of the summer, I naturally see a blend of patriotic colors. I see them bright and vibrant – not a combination that many would see fitting into a wedding or reunion. When done correctly, the red, white and blue colors combined make for an exciting and highly energized theme perfect for summer,” says Taylor. With the help of some talented professionals, Taylor shows us how explosive colors and creative thinking can make any gathering light up like the 4th of July!

Summer is all about color - bright, fun and bold. Weddings and reunions tend to incorporate more traditional tones of red or blue during the summertime but rarely together. A vibrant, celebratory atmosphere is created as bright red, cobalt blue, and turquoise combination creates an exciting clash of color. From the very beginning, guests will be in awe at the sight of the free-floating balloon entryway. For an outdoor venue, this explosive design adds height, color and the illusion of a physical entry in an open space. The dessert table shows off its pizzazz by featuring it’s own freely suspended canopy for dimension and uniformity.

Dessert tables are a must for any gathering. Nothing says delicious during the sultry summer like fresh raspberries, blueberries and watermelon, centered around a two-tiered cake. Don’t forget to supply the eye-candy by incorporating décor similar to the rest of your event onto the dessert table. Brightly colored vases, flowers and linens that begin the moment you enter at the guest table tie the entire look together. Not just for the kids, a snow cone station gives your guests a handson chance to create their own frozen concoction with a myriad of syrup flavors. Don’t forget the sweet cream; it’s the perfectly delicious “cherry on top” to this all-American treat. Centerpieces are created with a conglomeration of blue and red mix-matched vases filled with bright seasonal flowers. White accents provide the perfect mix of fun and casual elegance together.

However handy, smart phones during wedding photos, family reunions and even casual BBQ’s are filled with the sound of silence as guests feel compelled to multi-task. Event planners are often asked to find polite ways to encourage guests to detach from technology. Go “unplugged!” Creative signage placed on tables and throughout the venue are a polite way to remind your loved ones to celebrate the moment and leave the rest of the world behind.
