So You Want To Become A Model Tips: 1) Do Your Research! Definition: Know your designers, agencies out there, people of the industry, even great photographers!

2) Be Prepared! Definition: Taking classes and visiting agencies can be really nerve wrecking. Prepare yourself for any decisions or comments a person who is evaluating you, may have. Prepare yourself mentally with that , and physically by staying healthy, and maintaining the weight you are or should be at.

18

3) Make Your Portfolio An A+! Definition: When you visit any agency or model call, they are going to want to see your portfolio. Your portfolio defines if you have what it takes. Have different styles and themed photoshoots in there as well so industry professionals know how versatile you can be as a model.

19

4) Be Yourself! Definition: Nothing is worse than pretending to be something or somebody you are not. Your personality is what makes you and everyone is different. Trust this fact, people want to get to know and see the real you. It is okay to be nervous but you will be happier when you make that decision.

5) Be A Role Model

Definition: Make It Work!!!

Designer of the Month (October) Definition: Jeremy Scott

Coming out of Kansas City, Missouri then attended Pratt Institute for Fashion Design, he has teamed up with Adidas and is brand ambassador of Moschino, this is Jeremy Scott. Our designer of this month of October has been having a year like no other. Jeremy Scott has collaborated and designed outfits for stars such as Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Jared Leto, Lady Gaga, and more! A lot of his fans can be seen wearing his sneakers he designed such as those teddy bear sneakers or sneakers with wings (the Adidas collaboration). Being brand ambassador of Moschino, Jeremy has collaborated with a lot of cartoons and other recognizable brands out there with his designs and is known to twist them up in some sort of way. He is someone to definitely turn to when in need of a very creative, unique, and crazy (in a good way) design idea.

So you’re a Fashion Student Here are some tips. Definition: 1)Anything doesn’t guarantee SUCCESS! Definition: Not even starting your own fashion line can mean success or a specific internship or job you landed as you are still in school. Think about something before you start your own business. Work for somebody or for a specific company you really admire, that will help you make your decision.

36

2) Find Gainful Employment! Definition: Go for a job! That is part of what is going to help you survive your years. Whether it be for a retail shop or a restaurant, anything will be helpful for yourself and will help you gain much more knowledge. While you work there you can work on your fashion brand and creative ideas on the side, this will give you more of a chance to breathe and plan exceptionally!

3)Don’t spend too much money! Definition: Even though you are excited to show off your skills and ideas, don’t spend more than how much your tuition is for your own fashion show or any presentation. A simple powerpoint presentation with maybe a small prototype you put together is good enough. Employers will see what your idea is as you speak and go on from there. It is as simple as that.

37

4)Don’t be Shy! Definition: How you present yourself is publicly important. You cannot be a difficult shy person when talking with others in the industry, networking, in a presentation, or during an interview. You have to be so passionate about your dream and vision, focus on what you believe in. Not everybody has the same thoughts as you, but someone might steal that spotlight before you do. Fashion is a very competitive field/industry, it is just a matter of time until someone comes out with a design before you can even present it yourself. A lot of people also remember another person just by their first experience and base you off of that. Be yourself and be free. Again, fashion is competitive but there really are no boundaries.
