Overview and Background ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

V

ision Partners [Z] Limited has received from Chief Bunda Bunda 105 hectares of virgin land, 12 km north of Chongwe Township in Lusaka Province. The Company has a model community development concept “the University Village” – Zambia’s first private sector – led community education development hub - comprising a Boarding

High School (49-ha); an early childhood educational facility (1-ha); a primary school (4-ha); a University for Life (9-ha); a Mother & Child Hospital (3-ha); a housing complex (34-ha); a shopping complex (3-ha); a sports complex (2-ha); and other intriguing consumer infrastructure. This development approximates 35,000 M2 of floor space on a built-up consumer environment. The high school also houses an Industrial Arts Model Practice Skills Lab / Engineering Workshops (auto-electrical / auto-mechanical / fabrication / carpentry / other practical, relevant job-ready / self-employment entrepreneurship skills). Our partnership with traditional leadership and local authorities promises more land would be made available should a need arise. Chongwe is a new growth node for Lusaka Province even as public infrastructure development in terms of roads, bridges, public utilities, housing complexes, educational and health care delivery infrastructural facilities takes shape in Zambia today. The new Kenneth Kaunda International Airport is in Chongwe. Besides, two new public universities of Palabana and Chalimbana plus two new public schools and others too many to call indicate the potential of life in the district, 10 years downstream.

More specifically, this development shall take place in 4 phases. In Phase I, for

example, we hope to raise consumer properties with a floor space of between 10,000 and 12,000 M2 in order to house a model private boarding secondary school. Phase II brings a Mother & Child Hospital with about 1,200 M 2 of floor space not only to provide regular childhood healthcare, but also specialized cardio-vascular / surgical services to Zambia (currently sourced from abroad). Phase III brings an early childhood and primary school facilities; and Phase IV brings to life a University for Life, a housing complex and a sports complex. Educational Vision The “Every Child Matters” agenda (2003); the “All-inclusive Education ” model curriculum (2010); and US President Barak Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper ” philanthropy project (2014); provide a viable context for a compelling vision of education, curriculum design and behavioural instructional objectives for building schools for the future (BSF). This is an education which presents agricultural sciences, mathematics, industrial arts, land and natural resources management and language skills improvement on the back of a strong culture of computer education as development alternatives in the 21st Century. Every learner accesses both curriculum and its

Situational Analysis There is an acute shortage of both educational facilities for post – primary education and quality curriculum and instruction with practical usefulness at Kanakantapa Farm Block and its surroundings. Former Zamdale Plot is a Tribal Lot located about 12 km north of Chongwe Township, in Village Shimwengwe, Chief Bunda Bunda. This Lot is located next to the farm block. Three primary schools deliver its output graduates into Chongwe, the district’s only secondary school. Government plans (2009) to build a second one near the new University at Chalimbana. The current state of affairs is quite unsatisfactory. Pupil population at primary school averages 70 per class. About 350 pupils attend Chongwe Secondary School and, largely, staying alone in rented accommodation and without adult supervision.

They scarcely have enough food to take care of

themselves and curriculum support solutions to study effectively. The girl-child has fallen victim to an unwanted pregnancy . Chongwe’s head count is about 187 969 with a population density of 21.7 persons per square km, and growing at an average rate of 2.9 per cent per annum. Females and males stand at 50 per cent each in the District [CSO: 2010]. This annual population turnaround translates into about 5,443.19 new born babies every year; a potential pool of approximately 97,743.88 learners as children and young adults approximates 52% of the population in the District.

Children and

young adults are increasing their numbers and so are their diverse needs. Samuel Elkanah School first admission of Grade 8 pupils in January 2016 is drawn from among teenage youths born in 2003. 1.2

Curriculum and Instruction Instruction in the curriculum is inadequate and of far less practical value for this location and its economy. Location economics suggest that we need per capita skills in: [1] food business and agricultural economics; [2] building technologies and construction economics; [3] science and appropriate technology studies; and [4]

Page | 5 functional literacy, numeracy and life skills. This curriculum is designed for the whole-person. It is for the head [academics]; and for the heart [character]; and for the hand [practical value].

About Patrick Miti, Senior ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

C

ombining a culture of corporate social responsibility (CSR) at Vision Partners – the company he works for - and the ethos of personal social responsibility (PSR), Mr Patrick Miti, Senior has purposed in his heart to build a model school brand at Shimwengwe Village, Chief Bunda Bunda in Chongwe District. This model school brand has a community development objective (CDO) for which he is prepared to lay down his life. “My country,” he confesses, “offered me a GRZ scholarship to study education, curriculum and instruction design at the University of Zambia (UNZA) for free that I should play a significant role in the development of Zambia. Building the Samuel Elkanah School brand is the means of performing my duty and expressing my deep affection for my country. School buildings in the form of a build-to-let (B2L) consumer infrastructure is critical to this mission.” Mr Miti, is a gifted missionary teacher, editor, author and executive publisher who won a GRZ sponsorship into UNZA to acquire per capita teaching and curriculum development skills [1981 – 1985]; has had field experience teaching at a senior Catholic mission secondary school in Monze, Zambia [1985 – 87]; and has worked as a Senior Industrial Chemist at the former ZCCM, Kalulushi [1987 – 1992]; and he has taught at a senior public school [1992 – 2010]; and at a senior Adventist mission secondary school [2011]; and he was a consultant curriculum development specialist for and lectured at an NGO College for Flying Mission Services in Gaborone, Botswana [2008 – 2010]. His major subject is Forensic Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as double minors. He has training and field experience in guidance and counselling practices. He has also done Personal Finance & Investment with the University of South Africa [2001 - 2002] and Christian Crisis Intervention Therapies with Livewell Ministries in collaboration with Loma Linda University, California, USA (2007). While in Botswana, Mr Miti had the privilege and opportunity to help manage a senior secondary school; helped to edit science school books at Collegium Publishers and co-authored primary mathematics text books; and managed a publishing project for Collegium Publishers. All the books are prescribed for the Botswana educational market. Between 2003 and 2008, Mr Miti founded Vision Partners. This company is engaged in providing learning support services to the Government of the Republic of Botswana particularly for, and on behalf of, the Department of Support Services in the

Page | 10 Ministry of Education and Skills Development. He was its founding Chief Executive. The company negotiated with land owners in Mochudi Village to re-design their one commercial plot into nine (9) different commercial and residential plots under a project code – a City-in-the Village [or CtV]. CtV comprises upmarket 2-bedroom apartment blocks, a shopping mall, a filling station, an office block, a hotel, a set of townhouses, and others. The company engaged Khumo in Botswana to facilitate these developments. Upon his return to Zambia, Mr Miti founded Vision Partners in October 2011 and in May 2012, the company won a closed tender to manage book publishing projects at Thornhill Vision Press (TVP). He is the Chief Executive. TVP has since published nine [9] different school books which have been approved for use in schools in Zambia by Curriculum Development Centre in the Ministry of Education, Lusaka. The company has four [4] titles as working progress and about 50 different manuscripts. Mr Miti has also worked with over 30 000 children and young adults in Zambia and Southern Africa. He is assisted by a Senior Economist, an Assistant Manager (e-content) and a Community Mobilizer whose job it is to engage small household and SME farmers into the project’s value chain supply management.
