“Hippolyte’s Conquest” – The new SS 2016 Collection by Eleanna Katsira –
In Greek mythology, the Amazons (Greek: Αμαζόνες) were a race of woman warriors noted for their courage and pride who lived at the outer limits of the known world.
Herodotus reported that they were related to the Scythians (an ancient Iranian tribe) and placed them in a region bordering Scythia in Sarmatia (territory of modern-day Ukraine). Other historiographers place them in Pontus, in the city of Themiskyra on the Black Sea, others in Anatolia, or sometimes Libya. The Amazons were daughters of Ares, the god of War. They were a women-only society where men were welcomed only for breeding purposes and all male infants were expelled. They are most often depicted wearing hoplite armour, riding a horse and in battle with Greek warriors in amazonomachies in classical art. The most common weapon is the bow and spear, but there are also examples where Amazons carry axes. Amazon warriors, also according to legend, invented the cavalry. Notable queens of the Amazons were Penthesilea, who participated in the Trojan War and fought with Achilles, and her sister Hippolyte, whose magical girdle, given to her by her father Ares, was the object of one of the Labours of Hercules. Myth or fact, symbol or cult, none of the theories adequately explained the origins of the Amazons. If these warrior women were a figment of Greek imagination, there still remained the unanswered question of who or what had been the inspiration for such an elaborate fiction. I only know that these strong, resourceful and brave warrior women were a great source of inspiration for my new SS 2016 Collection, which comes to you by the name “Hippolyte’s Conquest”. Enjoy it!

Α luxury handmade line in which I used Italian vegetable tanned leathers and ancient techniques of leather handbraided. The Sandals Unique design leather sandals are made from high quality Greek leather and crafted from rope and leather straps. The rope and the leather are materials I love very much. The leather is so natural and you can create almost everything with this and the ropes‌ I am delighted that a material eminently for strapping, sailing, climbing etc. may find use in fashion. It was also fascinated to use the rope as parallelism that protects while climbing, as a mean to achieve targets! Every pair of sandals has a name of a Greek island . Enjoy them!
