fyi... NECA REviEw, ElECtRiCAl SERviCE PRoduCtS & tEChNitRol SitE viSitS Mitch Pope and I recently returned from the annual National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) meeting and trade show. This years convention was held in Boston, MA on October 7-10, 2016. This was the 61st Annual NECA Convention. The NECA show featured over 300 exhibitors with products and services specifically designed and manufactured for electrical contractors. This conference is for NECA members to learn and discuss the newest innovations and electrical code changes. This was our 32nd year attending as an exhibitor and it’s always a pleasure working with the NECA staff. There were quite a number of new exhibitors and products at the show. There are creative minds in our industry, and it shows in the development of these new products, making it easier for a contractor to manage projects on a tight budget. New products and services don’t guarantee success, but they certainly make the contractor’s prospect brighter. Approximately 20-25 of our advertisers attended or visited the NECA Show. We always enjoy visiting with them and

My wifes brother lives in Milwaukee and we get a chance to visit him and his wife and two children at least once a year. Our latest visit was very special as my nephew Ethan, whom I have known since he was 8 years old, got married in mid October. I could not be prouder of him and his wife Beth. My three daughters Ava (age 10), Audrey (age 7), and Olive (age 2), were all in the wedding. While in Milwaukee I had a chance to visit with Jim Feilbach at Technitrol. I want to thank Jim and Brian for showing me around. I didn’t get to ride on the zamboni so I’ll have to save that for next time. Photos of this visit can be seen on page 34.

Just an update on PowerSell. Every month since PowerSell started, more and more new listings have been added. While in NECA, Mitch and I had many conversations about the program with contractors that stopped by the booth. INDUSTRY SHOWCASE BCB – Bradley Construction Blanks Bradley Construction Blanks, also known as “BCBs”, were born out of 35 plus years of frustration from a self-employed electrician that was tired of continually fixing and finding his outlet and switch boxes that were damaged or covered over by sheet rock installers. The damage was not intentional, but the fact was, it was still a real problem. BCBs solve these and many other problems in an easy to use and cost effective manner. BCBs are designed to be used by every electrician that wants the job done right the first time. The electricians that have used them; consistently say they will not do another project without BCBs. BCBs are constructed out of galvanized steel and have a simple but effective design. Galvanized steel was chosen to prevent any rust or discoloration to the wall finish and the strength and design of the thin plate allows the BCBs to be overlapped (gangable), this means multiple plates can be used on a two, three, or four gang electrical box, it’s simple, one plate design for all applications. Another great feature is, BCBs that have been covered over by sheet rock can be easily found using an ordinary magnet! How many times have you walked into a room knowing that somewhere on that finished and painted wall there is an outlet or switch box? BCBs are attached to any standard commercial/residential electrical box using the supplied captive retaining clips. Theses clips are of a special design that will work in any plastic electrical box or metal mud extension ring. Just use your thumb to push the clips into the screw holes of any standard electrical box without having to use any tools. To remove the BCBs, just insert an ordinary awl or small Philips screwdriver into the removal hole and pop off, "push on – pop off”. Replacement BCB retaining clips can be purchased separately, or BCBs can also be attached using standard 6/32 screws if so desired.
