ART SHOW AT BANKER REAL ESTATE

Works of renowned artist Brandon Newton will be showcased at Banker Real Estate/Studio during a reception on Thursday, April 20, from 5:00 8:00 p.m. You can meet the artist while gazing at his gorgeous art and partaking in some tasty libations. Brandon is an expressionist best known for his brilliantly colored paintings and his complex treatment of light. His work has been featured on HBO, Fox News, and Fox and Friends, and he has been cited as one of the best, new, up-and-coming artists of today. Brandon will be displaying new art seasonally at Banker Real Estate/Studio. After seeing some of his work, we’re going to bet you’ll be taking a painting home. YAPPY HOUR TIME AGAIN

Join the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia on Thursday, April 27, for a Yappy Hour at Palm Coast Coffee Café and Pub on St. Simons Island from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. For a $10 donation at the door you get to enjoy an evening of local appetizers and live music by Golden Island Strummers, all while you hang out with animal lovers in the community. Bring your four-legged best friend (and your twolegged friends, too) to partake in doggie daiquiris while you cool off with a Happy Hour beverage from Palm Coast’s bar or coffee shop. Your donations go directly to help the animals in the temporary care of Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia while they wait on their forever homes. CORNHOLE TOURNMENT FOR CASH PRIZES

Start training those tossing arms, it’s time for the 3rd Annual Cornhole Tournament to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia. Have fun with your friends and compete for your chance to win a $500 cash prize for 1st place, $250 for 2nd place, or $100 for 3rd place. Check in and last minute sign-ups begin at Gnat’s Landing at 11:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 15. Play will begin shortly after. Pre-registration is $80 for each 2-person team including T-shirts

GIAHA WRAPS SEASON WITH BIG SHOWS

Golden Isles Arts & Humanities 2016-17 Performing Arts Series wraps up its season with two incredible shows at the Historic Ritz Theatre in April and May. On Sunday, April 2, at 3:00 p.m., Wildflowers: The Women of Country Music, starring Katie Deal, will make its world premiere. On Saturday, May 6, at 8:00 p.m., highly acclaimed and Grammy award-winning ensemble, Turtle Island Quartet will present A Love Supreme – The Work of John Coltrane. Deal’s one-woman concert tribute features the music and stories of country music’s pioneering women, honoring legends such as The Carter Family, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette and Reba McEntire. Turtle Island Quartet continues its own tradition of employing the string quartet form to shed new light on the timeless joy and beauty contained in the greatest music of the American jazz masters. HONORING HISTORY

Patriots Day in the United States honors the early days of America’s freedom by commemorating the first battles of the Revolutionary War: the battles of Lexington and Concord, fought near Boston, Massachusetts, on April 19, 1775. The Patriots Day Memorial Ceremony on St. Simons Island will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, at the St. Simons Casino with the

Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Color Guard holding Revolutionary Flags;

Patriotic Music; Wreath Presentations; and Cannon and

Musket Salutes. At 11:45 am, the Parade of Patriots will begin with the SAR Color Guard; antique fire truck; Revolutionary War Re-enactors; JROTC Cadets; Boy and Girl Scouts with Revolutionary Flags; and Paul Revere and Sybil Ludington on horseback. On Sunday, April 23, there will be a colonial worship service at St. Ignatius Chapel at 9:00 a.m. Many worshipers will be dressed in colonial attire; hymns and sermons will reflect the culture of 18th century America.

PARTY LIKE IT’S 1999

The Purple Xperience, a Prince Tribute Band, will be in concert on April 6 on Rainbow Island, on Sea Island, as part of the ongoing Southern Grown Concert Series. The Purple Xperience is a true tribute to Prince: true to the original, hailing from Minneapolis and created by Matt Fink of the Revolution who hand-picked Marshall Charloff for the lead. Since 2011 they have toured the country, bringing the memories of Prince and The Revolution to audiences of all generations. They embody the spirit and sounds of Prince with Charloff channeling the movements and vocal stylings of The Purple One. General Admission tickets are $40, VIP $80, including light bites and stage front access. Concert begins at 7:00 p.m., doors open at 6:00 p.m. Lawn chairs are welcome.
