SUMMER CLASSIC FILM FESTIVAL RETURNS TO RITZ

The Summer Classic Film Festival returns to The Ritz Theatre July 13-15 with a full weekend of films from 1939. The weekend kicks off Friday with a discussion of “1939: The Year of the Movie,” followed by a screening of the ground-breaking western, Destry Rides Again. On Saturday at 3:00 p.m. watch the catty, brilliantly acted, fast-paced farce The Women, while you enjoy cookies and punch. Then take a break to grab a special film dinner at one of the participating downtown restaurants, then return for The Wizard of Oz at 7:00 p.m. Set aside Sunday afternoon for a trip to Tara, complete with the option of having a “Taste of the South” intermission meal serviced up by Indigo Coastal Shanty, as part of the 3:00 p.m. screening of Gone With the Wind. SOUNDS OF SUMMER

On July 22, bring your chair, a blanket, and a picnic dinner with your favorite beverages to Neptune Park for an evening of melodies by sassy songstress Annie Akins. This month’s Sounds by the Sea concert presented by Golden Isles Arts and Humanities will feature this local treasure crooning some favorite tunes from her extensive repertoire that spans everything from jazz and blues to rock standards, and she’ll keep the audience on their toes with her humor and quick wit. Music begins at 7:00 p.m., so come out early to get a good spot and catch the ocean breezes as you wait on sunset and the stars to appear. Tickets are available at the gate: $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12, and children under 6 are admitted free of charge. It’s always a great way to wind down a summer weekend.

10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIG PHOTO SHOW

Come to Glynn Visual Arts for the 10th Anniversary of The Big Photo Show, presented by the Coastal Photographers Guild. This is the largest photography exhibit in our region. Photographs categorized as nature, people, landscape, and open are presented by award-winning photographers, beginners, serious amateurs, and more advanced members. Prints are priced for sale and a portion of each sale benefits Glynn Visual Arts. The show will be judged by prominent artists and photography experts. Opening reception will be held Thursday, July 5, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. Awards will be presented at 6:15 p.m. Guests at the reception can vote for the “People’s Choice.” Exhibit will be on display at 106 Island Drive from July 3rd through August 3rd. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closed Sundays and Mondays.
