Wine, Women & Shoes, presented by the Auxiliary of Hospice of the Golden Isles, is returning for its ninth year at a fabulous new location. Frederica Golf Club on St. Simons Island will host this highly anticipated “girls’ day out” on Saturday, March 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Proceeds from the event support the services of the Hospice of the Golden Isles (HGI), the area’s only community founded non-profit hospice.

Auxiliary President Donna Johnson says,

“Our Auxiliary team made an amazing pivot to a virtual event with at-home parties in 2021 and people loved being able to have the experience at their own comfort level, whether that was 2, 4, 8 or 10 people. But I think we’re all really excited to bring back the in-person event. It’s so popular; people talk about it for months before and after.

It’s such a fun way to raise fund for a

very worthy cause.” Serving Southeast Coastal Georgia since 1980, HGI is the region’s only hospice to offer hospice and palliative care with a free-standing inpatient facility, a residential patient facility, and a full-time physician medical director, who is a boardcertified doctor in hospice and palliative medicine and expertise, as well as bereavement services for the community.

Each attendee receives a wine passport that allows him/her tastings from each nationalaward winning vintner. They’ll also enjoy a delectable lunch and fashion show featuring local boutiques. Marketplace chair Alexia Miller is curating a fabulous shopping experience with exclusive marketplace vendors. “It’s super-fun to select the vendors from the national slate and then to watch the attendees enjoying seeing things that they haven’t seen here locally. It’s nice to pair one of my areas of expertise – shopping – with such a worthwhile cause!” Alexia points out, “The services that HGI provides aren’t only for end of life. Palliative care is vital to those living with serious illnesses and our hometown hospice provides that care as well. I love that I can be a part of something that’s so fun for so many people, but that touches countless lives right here at home.”

Sissy Blanchard, 2022 Silent Auction Chair & HGI Board Member says, “I chose to become involved with HGI because hospice care has been a part of helping some of my loved ones transition. I know how difficult that transition is for all involved and I know how hospice eases that burden.” She continues, “The silent auction is a significant money maker at our event because our community is extremely giving. We have many shop owners who donate and then contact their individual vendors to solicit additional donations to make sure that we have the biggest and best silent auction on offer.” So you can expect a stellar silent auction in addition to the live auction, trip raffles, wine raffles and Key to the Closet raffle. 2022 Co-Chair Becky Derrick echoes Sissy’s thoughts, “From our sponsors to our donors, our WWS team to our vendors, and our volunteers to our attendees, our community is so very generous. It is that giving spirit that has allowed us to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Hospice of the Golden Isles since our first event. Every single minute spent on or at this event is a love offering to our friends, family and neighbors who have been or will be touched by HGI’s service.” This fun experience also includes superb swag bags, charming Shoe Guys, and so much more. Becky recommends you get your tickets now because the event is always a sellout! “We’ve actually sold out almost a month in advance for the past four or five years.”

“Hospice of the Golden Isles takes care of those in need wherever they call home. That might be their home, an assisted living facility, or even the hospice facility. They take care of those in need regardless of ability to pay. They continue to provide services to the family when the patient is gone,” Becky says. “It’s reverent and humbling. It’s a privilege to get to be involved in perpetuating something like that.”
