7 Tips For MainTaining Your liMesTone Tile Floors

When you purchase limestone tiles from a reputable limestone tile exporter, you’re not just getting beautiful floors but a high quality product that also looks attractive. Limestone is sourced from sedimentary rock and consists of organic matter and minerals. Depending on the look you want to create, you can get limestone tiles in honed, highly polished or semi-polished finishes. Unlike other natural stones, you have available a wide range of textures and colours. Limestone is also a hygienic floor material because it naturally possesses anti-bacterial attributes. Like most natural materials, limestone floors need to be maintained. With the following seven tips, you can enjoy your limestone floors for years to come:

1. Sealing Limestone is highly porous. This is why periodic sealing is necessary. Sealing helps it to withstand wear and tear as well as staining. Ensure only a sealer suitable for this material is used. Be sure to apply it once a year to keep your limestone floors in top condition.

2. Vacuum Regular vacuuming helps to remove grit and dust. If you don’t do so, it causes an abrasive action when it’s walked upon; resulting in scratches on the tiles. Over time, your limestone tiles will lose their natural shine. To minimize dirt, place mats on entryways. Broom your floors regularly with a soft bristled broom.

3. Cleaners When using a cleanser, avoid any product containing acid. Limestone is composed of calcium carbonate. When it comes into contact with acidic materials like a citrus cleanser, it can etch the tiles. A neutral cleanser without additives is your best option. Opt for something more specific like a cleaner suited for limestone. Avoid using household detergents because these will cause a build-up on your tiles giving them a dull appearance.

4. Wet Mop Every two days, clean your Indian Limestone Tiles with a wet mop. Use warm water and a neutral cleanser to create a mild solution for your special floor. Since limestone is porous, it requires minimal water to clean it. Using too much water will penetrate the stone and lead to staining and discoloration. Wring the mop thoroughly before applying it on the floor. You may also want to change the water frequently.

5. Spills Wipe spills immediately after they occur. If left unattended, they will stain. Once set, stains are hard to clear.

6. Stains Use a grout and stone cleaner to remove stubborn stains on your limestone floor. Poultice based products also work well in stain removal.

7. Steam Time to time, rent a steamer to apply steam to your limestone tiles. Even with a sealed floor, pockets of water and dirt may form, leading to discoloration and blackening of your floor. The steamer will loosen and remove this dirt. After steaming, dry your tiles with a dry and clean mop.

With these handy tips, you can enjoy your beautiful limestone floors for years to come. Visit your local Limestone Tile Exporter, Elegant Natural Stone to purchase beautiful natural stone tiles.
