Welcome to the Elektra’s 28th season of discovery. Our mandate to create, explore, and celebrate women’s repertoire resonates through a year in which we will honour the legacy of our co-founder with three world premieres by BC composers produced with the assistance of the Diane Loomer Commissioning Fund for Elektra Women’s Choir. The season opens on November 29th with Chez Nous: Christmas with Elektra, the concert that for many signals the launch of the festive season. This year, the brilliance of brass will light up our venues in New Westminster and Vancouver as we welcome special guests the Eric Hamber Women’s Chorale and A Touch of Brass. And on March 14th, expect a collaboration like no other when Elektra joins forces with Canada’s leading percussionist, Beverley Johnston for Impulse at Ryerson United. "...a whiz bang player with the soul of a poet...one of the most original and creative artists of our day” wrote the Halifax Chronicle. The capper on a season of discovery will be our third Tapestry International Celebration of Women’s Choirs on May 1st and 2nd. Join us as we welcome outstanding women’s choirs from Winnipeg, California, and Norway. Subscribers to our three-concert season save 20% off ticket prices. Join us to experience the 2014/2015 season of outstanding music by Elektra!

The brilliance of brass lights up Elektra’s celebration of the Christmas season. For many, Chez Nous: Christmas with Elektra has become the concert that launches the festive season in style with traditional melodies and exciting new works. On the program will be the world premiere of Winter’s Grace by Edward Henderson (poem by Luci Shaw), a work honouring the memory of the late Diane Loomer. Ola Gjeilo’s Northern Lights, in a new voicing for women’s choir will receive its world premiere. Join us in New Westminster or Vancouver as we welcome special guests the Eric Hamber Women’s Chorale and their director Les Nerling and A Touch of Brass for our Christmas gift to you. satu rday, N ov. 2 9 t h , 2 0 1 4 2:00 pm-Queen's Avenue United Church, 529 Queen's Ave, (at 6th St), New Westminster 7:30 pm-Ryerson United Church, 2195 West 45th Ave (at Yew St), Vancouver

Expect a collaboration like no other when Elektra joins forces with one of Canada’s leading percussionists, Beverley Johnston, direct from Ontario for one performance only in Ryerson’s superb acoustics. “Rhythm and sweetness in a beautiful blend” wrote a Norwegian reviewer of Johnston’s performance. The Halifax Chronicle-Herald put it another way - "...a whiz bang player with the soul of a poet...one of the most original and creative artists of our day." Elektra and Johnston will premiere a new suite for marimba and women’s choir by Ontario composer Timothy Corlis.
