ELEMENT 5 OBTAINS FSC® CERTIFICATION

April 22, 2021

St. Thomas, Toronto, Ripon Element5 has received Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) Chain of Custody certification from SCS Global Services for their new factory in St. Thomas, Ontario. As an FSC Certificate Holder, Element5 will produce mass timber products certified as FSC Mix (Trademark License Code: FSC-C166066).

“On behalf of the company, I’m proud to announce our factory in St. Thomas has become FSC Chain of Custody certified,” said Patrick Poulin, President and CEO of Element5. “It is especially fitting that I am able to make this important announcement demonstrating our company’s commitment to sustainable production on Earth Day.”

“Wood is a natural, renewable, and sustainable construction material with a lighter carbon footprint than steel or concrete,” Poulin explained. “At our advanced manufacturing facility in St. Thomas, we use Ontario wood to make cross-laminated timber, glulam, and other value-added mass timber components. We are proud to bear the internationally recognized FSC label which provides consumers with an assurance that the mass timber elements they buy from us are made from responsibly sourced wood that has been verified to meet FSC’s strict environmental and social standards.”

Element5 is Ontario’s first and only CLT manufacturer. The company’s integrated team of mass timber specialists delivers precision manufactured components, systems and structures made from mass timber. Their construction approach involves a high degree of prefabrication which helps project owners to minimize risk and increase return on investment. Element5 strives to make positive contributions to communities, the environment, and future generations through the development and delivery of highperformance mass timber buildings made from sustainably sourced wood products.

FSC is the most rigorous international standard for responsible forestry. FSC certified forests conserve biological diversity, water resources and crucial ecosystems. The FSC standard also upholds worker rights and supports economic prosperity in surrounding communities. The FSC Chain of Custody certification ensures that certified wood products are tracked from forest to final product and, where applicable, those qualified recycled materials are used.
