DETECTED RAILWAY
During the 80s in Italy there was a decline in some railways that were previously fundamental in the use of many industrial sites and consequently the decommissioning of some railway that before were fundamental for the transfer of raw materials. The disuse of these places highlighted the rift that had been created within the city. Two project proposals follow which aim at the reconstruction of the fragmented habitat. There were two problems that have to be solved: the area, like some areas of this region, is subject to flooding both for the overbuilding and for the morphology of the region; secondly, the presence of the railway caused the emission of harmful pollutants and left the soil contaminated.
RIVAROLO Genova, Italy
The project involves the reconnection of the abandoned area with its surrounding neighborhood. An important element considered is the network of ancient paths that were interrupted by the pas-

sage of the railway. The main path that crosses the whole area is an ancient restored path. Reconnect the vegetation, interrupted by the railway and by the buildings, with native and resistant species, that do not need maintenance. Reconnect the citizen with their own city, through the input of new activities, services, houses and meeting places. This project was selected for the International Biennial of Landscape Architecture in Barcelona.

TERRALBA Genova, Italy
Terralba has the potential to become a fundamental node in the city, and has a strategic role in the interaction of surrounding neighborhoods. This project involves the creation of spaces that can host activities for both cultural and working growth of young people and, at the same time, create a place for cultural exchange and knowledge for all ages. Small shops are flanked by spaces for co-working and everything is immersed in a park. The city of Genoa, dense with overbuilding, needs a green lung and the response comes from these 7.6 hectares of unused area.

THE CARE OF THE PLACE FOR THE CARE OF THE PEOPLE
This project is an example of the many forgotten places we find in Italy. These places are now abandoned to themselves, but still retain a high potential as they occupy a relevant position both at urban and cultural level.
QUARTO Genova, Italy
Quarto is a former psychiatric hospital on a Genoese hill, now almost unused, hosting only a the few remaining patients. The situation is sad but the desire for rebirth is perceived in the structures. The project aims to transform this semi-abandoned place to a necessity for our society: a place for disadvantaged young people where they can begin a process of reintegration into society. The goal is to provide them with the necessary tools to know how to take care of the place and, doing so, Quarto will take care of themselves. Craft workshops and sports, interaction with the elderly and children, the garden and the sale of their products will help Quarto’s people to find their place in society.

SACRED SPACES RETURNED TO THE PEOPLE
My approach for these projects goes looking for places that were important points of reference in the past and that can still be by adapting their functions to the modern needs of people. Doing so, these centuries ancient treasures will never be lost but cared for and valued by their own people.
THEATRE IN MOTION Genova, Italy The island of Bergeggi, a protected marine area for the flora and fauna of its depths, is currently dominated by the growing population of the Seagull that has compromised the floristic biodiversity of the island. The project aims to bring the island back to life initially with the inclusion of fauna antagonistic to the seagull and then with recreation and study. The medieval structures on the island will be the project’s pins.

CERTOSA Genova, Italy The Charterhouse of San Bartolomeo is a monastery founded in 1297. Revive the ancient monastic garden through the use of the plants and the aromas used and cultivated by the monks 700 years before and the construction of the traditional spatial composition. The selected plant species mirror those mentioned in the verses of the Bible in the Song of King Solomon. In fact, the canticle describes Eden: the primordial garden.
A garden walled-in is my sister, my bride; a garden shut up, a spring of water stopped. The produce of the garden is pomegranates; with all the best fruits, henna and spikenard, Spikenard and safron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices. You are a fountain of gardens, a spring of living waters, and flowing waters from Lebanon. (Holy Bible, poetic book, Song of Solomon)

types of urban expansion considering the forms of settlement structures in their morphology and hierarchy relationships. ANALYSIS METHODS - Geographic: inspections, interpretation ortho photomaps; - Critical: cross between bibliographic data and those obtained in the field; - Analytical: GIS software. Expansion took place along the road structuring. The process of evolution presented a fusion of urban centers along their axis of connection.

Conclusions The expansion of urban agricultural in past decades occurred along the main line of the Val Bisagno, ie the same as the stream. For reasons of survival, function, and comfort man always chooses to settle and bear fruit in the vicinity of fertile areas and then spread radially. Landslides-urbanized scale 1:10.000
The denser cultivated areas are those with greater exposure to light and heat of the sun (thus excludes the exposed areas to the north and northeast), and those below 200 meters of altitude on the sea. Because of the complex shape and the strong steepness of the area, the man had to adapt their crops to the morphology of reducing it to a system of tiers stabilized by dry stone walls. Unfortunately, over time we have seen a move away from traditional crops allowing the natural vegetation actually incorporated uncultivated areas. The population is limited to cultivate small gardens or, if it has olive groves or vineyards, producing small amounts to be allocated to the consummation family.
