In This Article By Tom Demeropolis – Senior Staff Reporter, Cincinnati Business Courier Jun 29, 2018, 10:37am EDT Updated 17 minutes ago FC Cincinnati has selected the construction and design team that will build its $200 million soccer-specific stadium in the West End. The team that will build FC Cincinnati’s Major League Soccer stadium includes Turner Construction Co. as the construction manager, Meis Architects as the architect of record, Elevar Design Group as the local architecture firm helping Meis Architects, Jostin Construction as Turner's construction management partner and Machete Group as the owner's representative. U.S. Bank will provide financing. FCC majority owner Carl Lindner III said the stadium will be an integral part of the community. “It’s been a winding road to reach this point,” Lindner said during a news conference at Great 1/2
American Tower. “We’re excited for what’s going to be our new home in 2021.” Lindner said the team will "meet and exceed" FC Cincinnati's goals and expectations to create a stadium to represent Cincinnati on a global stage. FC Cincinnati president and general manager Jeff Berding said the inclusion model that will be used on the construction of the stadium will be "the envy of the region." "This team represents the best of international design and construction with partners who know the local landscape," Berding said. Dan Meis, managing principal of Meis Architects, said he has spent a lot of his career working on soccer-specific stadiums all over the world. He said the FC Cincinnati stadium will "set a new standard" for connection to the community and fans. Dave Spaulding, vice president and general manager for Turner Construction, said it is important that the whole community benefit from the construction of the stadium. The construction team, along with the Greater Cincinnati Redevelopment Authority and the AfricanAmerican Chamber of Commerce, will hold an event on July 9 at the Woodward Theater in Over-the-Rhine to discuss how they will engage the community, do outreach and provide tours of the stadium. Spaulding said a groundbreaking for the stadium is expected by the end of this year with foundations visible by the second quarter of 2019. A topping out ceremony will be held by the end of 2019, with the stadium ready for MLS play for the 2021 season. Albert Smitherman, president and CEO of Jostin Construction, said he's looking forward to enhancing opportunities for minority- and women-owned subcontractors on the project. While designs for the stadium were completed during the site selection process, Berding and Meis said they will be starting over on design now that they have the site in the West End. Berding said the stadium will represent where the city is headed, be full of energy and "have a level of coolness to it."
