Get a look inside the former Bavarian Brewery before its $20M renovation: PHOTOS Oct 19, 2017, 3:01pm EDT Updated: Oct 19, 2017, 3:04pm EDT In 2019, the more than 100-year-old former Bavarian Brewing Co. building will become home to Kenton County’s administrative offices and Kenton County Planning and Development Services. Before interior demolition work ramps up, the Business Courier got an inside look at the former Bavarian Brewing building. To view the building, click on the attached slideshow. Kenton County selected the team led by Turner Construction Co. to create about 80,000 square feet of administrative office space to house the Kenton County Fiscal Court at 1200 Jillian’s Way in Covington. The other members of the team include engineering consultant Brandstetter Carroll Inc., architecture firm SFA Architects Inc., structural engineer THP Limited Inc., developer/design-builder Al Neyer and real estate developer Urban Sites. The complex of buildings, located at 522 W. 12th St. in Covington, were occupied until 1966 when Bavarian Brewing closed. Construction started on most of the complex as it is known today in 1903. Jillian’s, a nightclub and entertainment complex, operated at the site from the late 1990s until it abruptly closed in 2006. Many of the features from when the building was occupied by Jillian’s were still in the space, which has been vacant for more than a decade. Kenton County purchased the property from Columbia Sussex last year for $4.5 million. Columbia Sussex had purchased the property for $4.2 million in 2008. At the time, Columbia Sussex was planning to convert the original brewery building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, to shops and restaurants. The other buildings would be demolished to make way for a casino, hotel and parking garage. However, those plans never came to fruition because Kentucky hadn’t allowed casinos in the state. The redevelopment of the Bavarian Brewery building into office space is expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2019. 1/2
