U

rban Kryptonite was written and directed with the intent of shining a light on many of the adverse health afflictions affecting the so –called AfricanAmerican. People often question the origins or genealogy of the title, Urban Kryptonite: African Roots, Foreign Diseases. The word Urban represents the minority communities across America and the world which are heavily populated by minority people of color (generally of some form of African descent). Kryptonite is a piece of stone that became popularized in the world famous Superman film series. This stone represented Superman’s weakness. Anytime this stone was revealed in the presence of Superman he became debilitated and therefore being able to be defeated no longer possessing his customary super powers. This is what the so called African American and other Afro Diasporans have experienced when they choose unnatural and insalubrious 6 | Elevation Magazine

food. These are a people of great talent, abilities and production but each of these qualities become neutralized due to their food choices. The food and daily dietary habits become the “kryptonite of the Urban community. The film is an off shoot of the book Urban Kryptonite: The Formidable Health Decline of The So Called Africans in America. The film deals solely with food while the book covers a wide variety of subjects that each have contributed to the destruction of the so called African Diasporan located in the western hemisphere. As of today, there is a sequel and a trilogy planned for the Urban Kryptonite Films brand. The second film will focus on women in the community and the facilitation of their healing as a unit. This film features names such as Chef Ahki, the late Dr. Keefa Lorraine Weatherspoon, Shaharazad Ali, Dr. Afiya Mbilishaka, Queen Afua, Mama Akosua, Zaza Ali and more! A strict focus was dedicated to the women of our community as they are generally the healers and thus must be properly taken care of and protected. We are currently raising funds for this project and are looking to have the funds and completed projected by late 2018 or early 2019. Contact us at urbankryptonitefilms@gmail.com for if you would like more information on how you can contribute to our next film project.
