ABOUT THE PROPERTY

DEPLAR FARM

Located in the remote Fljot valley on the mountainous Troll Peninsula of northern Iceland, Deplar was originally a sheep farm which has been converted into a boutique lodge. Today’s modern structure celebrates a rugged past, and honors authentic Icelandic architecture with 13 en suite bedrooms and living spaces made for lounging. Every room brings the outdoors in—floor-to-ceiling windows frame the mountains and stone sourced from local rivers, black timber cladding, and a grass-sodded roof complete the luxuriously cozy picture. After a long day of heli-skiing, return to one of the thermal pools for a beer or cocktail followed by a fresh chef-selection dinner with a northern flare.

SKIING DETAILS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Our heli-ski clients are Adventure Capitalists by design. They follow the snow, no matter the time of year. Getting after it is their call to action. Tackling untracked heli-ski descents on Iceland’s Arctic maritime snowpack is for both the hard charger and the smooth cruiser. Sea-to-summit has never looked this good.

Heli-skiing on the Troll Peninsula is known for its beautiful rolling descents and steep couloirs taking you all the way to the ocean. This land of the midnight sun offers true adventurers extended daylight hours with more opportunity to rack up the vertical.

WHAT IS THE TERRAIN LIKE IN ICELAND? HOW ARE THE SNOW CONDITIONS?

With over 1,500 square miles of skiable area, we have a wide variety of terrain — think wide open bowls, steep couloirs, long runs from mountain peaks to the ocean shore.

Iceland has a maritime snowpack meaning that the snow conditions are very stable. You can expect a variety of conditions — sometimes spring-like conditions including smooth, buttery slopes and corn snow and at other times, fresh powder.

DO YOU NEED TO BE AN EXPERT SKIER TO HELI SKI AT DEPLAR FARM?

The vast terrain in Iceland means we have the flexibility to choose runs that are appropriate for your skill level. We recommend that guests be strong intermediate skiers to best enjoy the experience; for you experts out there, don’t worry, there are plenty of challenging slopes for you to rip down.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO HELI SKI IN ICELAND?

Our season runs between mid March to early June.

HOW MUCH FLIGHT TIME CAN WE EXPECT?

We include one hour of flight time per day which equates to 8-10 runs; each run averages 2,500 - 3,500 feet of vertical.

ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE

Crested Butte and the West Elk range are a true mecca for all winter related activities. From Eleven’s exclusive cat skiing operation to our expertly guided backcountry excursions to Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s diverse terrain, there is certainly something for everyone in this alpine epicenter.

Cat Skiing:

Located about 12 miles from the town of Crested Butte in Irwin, Colorado, Eleven’s cat skiing operation is uniquely situated to catch any storm from the Great Basin. At an average of nearly 450 inches of snow a season, typically double the amount of snow seen at the resort, and with over 1,000 skiable acres, get ready for some seriously deep powder, untracked lines, and, if the timing is right, free refills on some of the most desirable snow in Colorado.

Backcountry:

The trophy of Crested Butte’s natural playground is the backcountry. Terrain options are endless, from navigating low-angle, open glades to summiting challenging peaks and getting access to steep faces, couloirs, and tight trees. Our guides will set the perfect skin track while also pacing you and increasing your backcountry knowledge.

Resort Skiing:

The resort’s terrain is well suited for all levels of experience. Warm up on some mellow groomers or take a turn on the desirable steeps. Crested Butte’s unrivaled terrain is part of the Freeride World Tour and considered some of the best in bounds extreme terrain in North America. If you’re a first-timer or bringing the kids, the resort’s ski school is one of the best in the country. It is the perfect place to find your ski legs before heading up to Irwin or hitting the backcountry.
