RISING STAR IN UNITED STATES? PHOENIX
Rufat Dadashov "Player of the Week", USL Championship, W1
The USL Championship announced that Phoenix Rising FC forward Rufat Dadashov had been voted the Championship’s "Player of the Week" for Week 1 of the 2020 season. Dadashov notched a hat trick in his Phoenix Rising debut during the club’s 6-1 win over Portland Timbers 2 on March 7th, Week 1.
Teammate Solomon Asante was also named to the Team of the Week. Asante provided the assist on two of Dadashov’s goals and scored a goal of his own, the final goal of the night, in the winning effort.
Phoenix Rising FC is the highestlevel professional soccer franchise in Arizona’s history and the 2019 USL Regular Season Title Winners. The club also holds the record for the longest win streak in American professional soccer history at 20 matches
Two months ago Phoenix Rising FC announced it had signed Azerbaijan National Team forward Rufat Dadashov for the 2020 USL Championship season. “For me, playing for Phoenix Rising FC is a dream come true,” Dadashov said. “Since 2014, when we played with the Azerbaijan national team against the U.S. national team, I’ve closely followed soccer in America, and it is very impressive to see the great development. I really wanted to be part of this. After talking to [Rising FC Head Coach] Rick Schantz, I knew 100 percent that I wanted to play for Phoenix. I cannot wait to get started and meet my teammates, the fans and see Arizona and most importantly help Phoenix Rising to win games!”
“Rufat’s size, power, and precision are something that will be very beneficial to Phoenix Rising,” said Phoenix Head Coach Rick Schantz. “His ability to hold up the ball will allow our wingers and attacking midfielders to get involved and make runs off of him. He has been playing in a very good league in Germany. I expect that this will translate extremely well into the USL.”
Azerbaijan National Football Team Player
Dadashov made 24 appearances for his country, Azerbaijan, scoring five goals in his international career while appearing in European Championship and World Cup qualification matches.
Dadashov secured "The Player of the Week" in USL Championship Week 1, while his team "Phoenix Rising FC" aims to get the Title again this year. The USL Championship is the second level of professional men's soccer league in the United States after Major League Soccer.
NIGHTMARE FOR LIVERPOOL FC
The past two weeks have been a nightmare for the Liverpool FC.
- February 29th. English Premier League, Round 28: Watford 3-0 Liverpool (Ended Liverpool's 44 games unbeaten run in EPL) - March 3rd. FA Cup: Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool (Stopped the Reds in FA Cup) - March 12th. UEFA CL, 1/8 final, second leg: Liverpool 2-3 Atletico Madrid (Crashed out Liverpool of the Champions League).
44-game unbeaten streak ended
Liverpool's hopes of remaining unbeaten for an entire Premier League season were ended in sensational style by a rampant Watford at Vicarage Road on February 29th. The defeat was the club's first defeat since January 2019, ending a 44-game unbeaten streak, the second longest unbeaten run in English top-flight history.
FA Cup ended earlier
After three days, Chelsea made it a torrid for Liverpool as goals by Willian and Ross Barkley sealed a 2-0 victory to send them through to the FA Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Out of Champions League
And on March 12th, Liverpool have lost a European game at home for the first time in six years after crashing out of the Champions League last-16 at the hands of Atletico Madrid.
The Reds lost 3-2 after extra-time at Anfield to see their 42-game unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end and is the first time Jurgen Klopp has lost two-legged tie as the club’s manager. In addition, the result ended the Reds' winning streak at home in European competition, as Anfield was the site of a defeat for the first time since 2014.
The last time they crashed out at the last16 stage of the competition was in 2006, when Benfica knocked them out – that was also the last time they lost both legs of a tie until Wednesday evening.
The decisions to suspend all professional football in England related to coronavirus, there are many uncertainties at present. Will Liverpool be crowned Premier League champions? Or will the League be suspended? COVID-19 is another nightmare for Liverpool for now.
