addendum
#whoiam All through SJSU I have been given challenges and through these challenges I have worked my way to build a set of tools. These array of tools come from a wide spectrum of areas such as jewerly, industrial design, volunteering experiences and and some have even driven me to self teach and develop as hobbies. Many of the following projects reflect my persona and demonstrate my thinking process in design. The Art and Design Shop (aka woodshop) provided many of the tools necessary for my projects such as the band saw, table saw, laser cutter, miter saw, sanders, hot wire, industrial sewing machine, and many other machines.
a Purpose
The purpose was to create a broche that had movable components. It also needed to be able to attach to clothing by a working pin.
b Material
The three main materials were copper, brass and nickel. Students were provided with limited amounts of copper and brass tubing, sheets, and rivets. In addition to that, patina was applied to the leaf and acid etching was used to imprint the front image onto a nickel piece. The material used to transfer the image is PNP.
c Design
The deisgn aproach began with a sunflower and developed to create movable petals. The pin became part of a leaf. The veins of the tree represent the family tree
Broche for Mom
a Purpose
The purpose in this project was to design and create a wearable tool meaningful to myself and that I would be able to use often. As an interior design student one of the tools I was using often was a measuring tape.
b Material
The main material used was brass. Since brass is a copper alloy, some copper rises to the surface and creates an antique look with the patina finish. This all ties in together to create a tool with history.
c Design
Given that measuring tapes are hand tools, I decided to mount it on a ring and create a similar mechanism as a measuring tape I had opened up. I also wanted to relate it to architecture, therefore, I created a dome shape with a hammered texture along a corinthian column-like design for the ring.

a Purpose
The purpose of this six hinge bracelet was to familiarize ourselves with the tools, materials and methods of formations.
b Material
Considering the purpose of the project, the materials included copper, brass and nickel. Students used the Pickel pot which is a mild acid that eats fibers and cleans the metals. In this projects liver of sulfure was used, a form of patina, to explore finishes.
c Design
The design initiated with a template that marked the ‘arms’ of there the hinges will take place. From there on I created a form of petals and familiarized myself with the saw by sawing off the petal voids in the inside. I essentially used mirrored templates to create the inverted effect.

Project: Through the process of layering vertical parallel planes, design a connected pathway that allows the body to move through a series of different spaces along a path. Inspiration:
Beside the differences in height, each individual planes is customized accordingly to the size of the platform. The planes provide seating spaces, areas of more privacy FLOOR PLAN (SECTION CUT) and interaction. The center space is formed by three planes that are arranged to 1/8” = 1’0” form a communal space in the center of the structure.

Wind
The project consisted of making walls, parallel planes, that made a pathway that the students can interact with at the east side of the Industrial Studies building. I decided to cut the planes in angles making a sort-of trapeziod-like shape.

stretchy, and supportive for baby
strong and for structure
a Purpose
The purpose of the project was to find a Need to design and create a product for. The target audience are babies and their parents. The product would fit a personal built based on interview data.
b Material
The materials are primarily softgoods. The main solfgood is a black canvas material due to its durability and strength. The second material is a stretchy fabric that conforms to the babies’ body. Other used objects used were fasteners. An industrial sewing machine was used.
c Design
The baby carrier was purposely designed for student parents who travel with their babies frequently. This product would make use of the student’s backpack to eliminate extra weight. The design itself starts out in a fanny-pack form and unfolds a baby carrier that clips around the shoulder straps of the backpack.
