SCIENCE CENTER AND TECHNOLOGY MUSEUM/ ISTANBUL, turkey Spring 2017 Prof. Yamaç KorfalĹ

The science center and technology museum is located in Tepebasi in the near area where the Taksim Square located. The site has an easy access from Istiklal and most of the people using Odakule passage to get this area. The problem of this site is there is no urban square for people to gather and socialize. Thus, this new science center and technology museum aims to be creating a square which could function as relaxing, observing and meeting place.

This Science Center and Technology Museum has a conceptual program of history about human beings and their future activities such as artificial intelligience, computer algorithims and this concept should be reflected in the building design.

FYIJCJUJPO IBMM

This curved form is made of bricks and to design this facade the program of Grasshopper scripts were used. By these scripts first of all the brick modules are aligned according to the surface of the shell. The second step is to create openings with patterns and these actions generate a parametric brick facade. It could only build by robots, so that the concept is compatible with the design of the building.

This studio aims to design the abondoned Lincoln Recovery Hospital into a community center for the South Bronx. The important aspect of this studio is that it is shaped by sharing knowlodge with the community members in the design process. We facilitated envisioning workshops, attended community meetings. “Civic Stair is our joint proposal to create a gathering and performance space as the core of the new H.E.Arts Community Center. A new, large stair was inserted in response to the idea that the community remains connected through casual encounters. The stair cuts through the building and opens it up at ground level to Willis Park. The rest of the offices and classrooms organize themselves around this central intervention.

COMMUNITY CENTER / ISTANBUL, turkey Spring 2016 Prof. Dr. Murat Soygenis

Azapkapı is located in historical peninsula of Istanbul. The site contains wall remains from Genoese (some of them burried under the soil) and has an easy access with metro and busses. The program consists of convention center, learning research center and exhibition hall. The design idea was to integrate the historical wall remains with the community center and let the visitors experience the site. Some kiosk structures are functioned as information center, food stand, exhibition space on the outside garden.

PRIMARY School / Edirne, turkey Fall 2015 Assoc. Prof. Emine Umran Topcu

The project is located in the shantytown of Edirne which is within minutes of walking distance from the city center. The main idea of the project tries to contribute a new look to this shantytown, keeping in mind the existence of historical minaret and relation between tradition and modernity. This facility aims to provide education from Kindergarten to Key Stage 2 students. The challange is to produce seperate modules for each education groups.
