Qatar Airways to Service Budapest Route Daily Qatar has taken a step to further expand operations in Eastern Europe by increasing flights on its recently introduced Doha – Bahrain route, to daily.

t

he change will be effective from september 14 and will add three additional flights to the current four flights a week. Bucharest will be de-linked from the service, allowing for a direct flight. Akbar Al Baker, ceo, Qatar Airways, commented on the decision. “we have

seen very strong inbound and outbound demand for our hungarian service since our launch just over two months ago. Forecasts look extremely positive, so we couldn’t really hold back but to increase capacity pending aircraft availability to daily non-stop from september, offering more choice and greater convenience to our valued customers.”

The Budapest route had created new connections between the Middle east, Africa and Asia Pacific for passenger traffic in and out of hungary via the airline’s doha hub. The move by Qatar adheres to its expansion plans in eastern europe, which will also include four weekly flights to Bulgaria’s capital city of sofia via Bucharest, effective from september 14.

Air Seychelles to Resume Direct Singapore Flights Air Seychelles announced that it will cease weekly flights to chennai, india, and will resume direct flights to singapore, effective from June 1. singapore flights were previously operating at a loss, so chennai was added to the route in an attempt to make this the hub of its operations in Asia and to also expand

8

further into india and other Asian destinations. however, the stop in chennai resulted in an additional two hours flying time and significant extra costs. Maurice loustau-lalanne, executive chairman, Air seychelles, commented on the changes. “our decision to suspend these flights has not been taken lightly as

we had invested money and time to make this route profitable. Unfortunately this is not the case and in the absence of 5th Freedom traffic rights to uplift passengers between chennai and singapore, we had no other option but to suspend our weekly chennai operations as of June.”
