Jordan Devises National Tourism Strategy Jordan has launched its National Tourism Strategy 2011-2015, aiming to increase the country’s tourism receipts to JOD4.2 billion (USD5.9 billion) by 2015.

t

he strategy, built on the achievements of the previous one (20042010), will guide the continued development of Jordan’s tourism sector over the next five years. it was developed by the private sector, guided by the Ministry of tourism and antiquities (Mota) in partnership with the Jordan tourism Board ( JtB), department of antiquities, and the Federation of tourism associations with technical expertise provided by usaid Jordan tourism development. haifa abu ghazaleh, Minister of tourism and antiquities, elaborated on the project. “This strategy will direct the tourism sector in planning and implementing the

changes and actions necessary to raise the overall competitiveness of Jordan’s tourism industry, enhance the visitor experience through innovation in product development, better position and promote the tourism offering to global markets so as to attract higher yield customers throughout the year, create a regulatory and operating environment which drives better business performance, and release the full energy of the private sector as the engine of growth.” one of the main goals of the strategy is to improve the business environment in order to attract investment. in 2010, Jordan welcomed 8.2 million visitors, and tourism receipts accounted for Jod2.4 billion (usd3.4 billion). to

further improve results, the updated strategy indentifies ways to raise overall competitiveness of Jordan’s tourism industry. Marketing initiatives will be stepped up to reach the goal of 9.4 million visitors and grow domestic tourism receipts by 30 percent, while at the same time reducing seasonality in favour of a more even annual receipt distribution throughout the year. other highlights of the plan include the increasing of air capacity and ensuring that 100 percent of hotels and 80 percent of restaurants are approved and classified under the new national classification scheme. it anticipates the creation of 25,000 new direct jobs, and increasing female participation in the workforce by 15 percent.

Great Hotels of the World Improves Online RFP Sales and marketing alliance, great hotels of the World, has launched a new request for proposal (rFp) tool that will make it easier and quicker for meeting planners to complete the rFp process, in a user-friendly way. previously, the rFp form on the website was difficult to navigate. John clarke, director of sales and marketing, great hotels of the World, felt that buyers did not interact well with it and it was too time-consuming. “But now we have made the rFp process much smoother and quicker, making it easier for buyers to do business with us. The new rFp tool will allow us to streamline the rFp process and take away the unnecessary form filling which can be so time consuming. it allows for briefs to be uploaded so planners do not have to repeat themselves. We have had some great feedback since we launched the new tool earlier this week.”
