Neotopie In 2006 american single women outnumbered married ones. In England, in the past 40 years, people who live alone had quadrupled and sociologists estimate that until 2012 they will be the 37% of the entire population. In Japan single people have become important figures in the social scene and even Italy is involved in these changings. According to ISTAT’s data from 2007 a quarter of the families in the country is made by only one parent. In particular Milan is considered “city of singles” because the 50,6% of households is made by a single parent. Reasons that lead to this kind of life are various: the need to search for a job in another city; the tendency to get married in a mature phase of the life, in contrast with the growth in number of divorces; the attraction that big cities have on younger people. Sometimes the choice of living alone is not a personal decision but a necessary and temporary situation that can last for week or ages, according to various factors. The figure of the “single” that is mostly identified with the single man or woman comprehends a variety of people who lead a “solitary life”.

Nomad camp apartment project of a permanent dwelling for nomad users
precariousness communion vs privacy
nomadism
The bivouac theme goes along with the metaphor of the rite as an interpretation of the student’s lifestyle. In the project we tried to define the characteristics of the nomad camp in order to reproduce them in the apartment. Those features we found are: light and mobile partitions, totally demountable typical of the nomad living, together with the disorder inspired by the fast and absent-minded lifestyle of the students. Poor materials are another point we decide to include together with the introduction of movement.
porous borders
textile partitions
low cost disorder

Study room The study room annexed to the library gives students the opportunity to study and read alone or in groups through the two main spaces: on one side containers can be used to relax with a view on the external garden and stairs made by pallets permits people to sit and read while demountable tables can be used to study alone or in groups. The two zones are virtually separated by mobile screens that permits light to enlighten the whole space with no barriers. Thanks to mobile furniture the room can completely change its function: tables and screens can be reposed in a storage space and in the free space new activities can take place.

Curricular Workshop - "Ceramic city" | Professor: Ugo La Pietra
Sensible tiles The project is a requalification, though the ceramic element, of a public pool of fascist period located in city center of Milan, now abandoned and ruinous. Two areas are distinguished: Wellness of Mind and Wellness of Body where different kinds of activities can take place. In the project nature is an important element, revisited through the use of pottery. The innovation in the design is the interaction tile-water and tile-bodily heat able to create various graphics.

Interior Design Studio 2010-2011 | Professors: Francesca Murialdo, Christoph Grafe
This project is a requalification of a municipal market in Milan made through the adding of a new function to the existing one. In the concept the new function is cultivation: it is placed in the central part of the market where products for the retail are raised, while the commercial part is located at the borders. The cultivated area is divided in two types of spaces: one conducted by common people and one allocated to the market’s staff. In this way the consumer can be aware of the entire production process and can participate to the birth of the product. In the project the contamination is realized between the commercial element and the natural element, tightly connected to the surroundings: Monte Stella, one of the biggest green areas in Milan.
