Renovation and extension project for a traditional abandoned building which is transformed in a new SPA and wellness centre connected by an elevated walkway with the nearby hotel “Cantine Ascheri”.

The spaces ar distrubted over 3 floors, following a sensory path where textural and material elements contribute to the recover of physical and mental equilibrium.

I worked as an executive architect, collaborating in every stage of design and construction with the local artist Marco Poncellini: we conceived this space as a sort of “art gallery”, where different shaped architectural objects host the SPA services, such as saunas or steam bath. Typical local materials were reinterpreted in the creation of these objects.

REA! FAIR 2023

Role: Exhibition Designer

expo / contemporary art fair / 2023 / 1.000 sqm - 100 + works displayed / Milano (Italy)

Rea! Art Fair is the only Italian contemporary art fair that offers the works of emerging artists, absolute protagonists, without the intermediation of galleries and museums. In the former Cisterne della Fabbrica del Vapore Space, 100 authors propose their creations ranging from medium and production techniques

A unique meeting and discussion space for the 100 artists selected by the scientific committee composed by the curators Maria Myasnikova, Erica Massaccesi, Rita Meschiari, Paola Shiamtani, Milena Zanetti and Vittoria Martinotti, among the more than 800 applications received from all over the world through an open call.

Among the artists production are included works that ranges between video games, 3D animation, short films, virtual reality, digital painting and music production to create multisensory environments that interpret human identity within contexts such as digital surveillance and biopolitics.

MUSEUM EXTENSION PAVILION

graduation project / exhibition / 2021 - 2022 / 700 sqm / Florence (Italy)

This is the project for an external pavilion extension to Casa Siviero, a Florence house museum facing Arno river. My design analysis takes off from the observation of the fragmentation of the urban context around Torre San Niccolò: the tower is a fragment, having lost its initial function of “door”. Fragments are also the protagonists of the works of De Chirico, illustrious guest of Casa Siviero. Similar fragments can be found across the entire urban fabric of Florence, where they are managed by “threshold” elements framing them, giving them a new order.

The new linear building tries to capture this idea of “giving an order to the city fragments”, creating two opposing public spaces: a more intimate square, facing the tower and a theater along the river. It is divided into two floors of equal height, the upper floor, equipped with large windows, such as a “Museum of the city”, and the lower, closer to the human scale, “Museum of the objects”, looking at the city itself through the large final opening.

Here the objects are displayed as embedded into the solid side walls, in an atmosphere suspended in space and time, almost like archaeological finds, preserved below the historic city.

NURSING HOME + COHOUSING

new construction / healthcare / 2020 - in progress / 8.000 sqm / Bra (Italy)

Urban planning and architecture project, aiming to give an answer, through an innovative distribution of spaces, to the problems that the typical Italian nursing houses system faced in the pandemic. The idea is to provide every guest a completely private personal space, in order to allow dignity and privacy single rooms with private bathroom (naturally ventilated and illuminated) and a private terrace

Community spaces were over-sized and concentrated in the portion of building overlooking the Piazza: this zone could be easily “separated” from the rest of the structure in case of pandemic events

I worked on every stage of this project, starting from the variant to the town’s general land use plan (P.R.G.C.) to the design of the building.

TEMPORARY GATHERING HUT

international workshop / self-construction of a plywood pavilion / 2017 / Torino (Italy)

TTT workshop is an international event born in 2015, who get involved four universities: Polytechnic of Turin, Tokyo University, Meiji University of Tokyo and Feng Chia University of Taichung, with the straordinary partecipation of japanese architect Kengo Kuma

The 2017 edition focused on the earthquake that hit Center of Italy in August 2016. The workshop aim was to create meeting points and common areas in temporary villages, in order to reconstruct sense of community lost during the catastrophe.

The realized project is a playground pavillion for Accumoli village, designed through an parametrical software and following a modular system.

THE STACK PAVILION

international workshop & competition / self-construction of a bamboo pavilion / 2015 / Taichung (Taiwan) / 1st prize winner

The 2015 edition of “TTT Workshop” , set in Taiwan, was titled “Water and Shadow”, referring to those simple methods that could make the urban environment a more comfortable place. The local climate is too often not considered in the development of the new Asian metropolis; our goal was to create a peaceful shelter in the middle of the chaotic centre of Taichung Night Market: the challenge consisted in the creation of a small building which could also generate new activities in urban space

A further challenge was about the use of the most traditional material in this area: bamboo. We decided to build a modular bamboo pavilion, which could assume the function of a cooling breaking point in the middle of the extremely hot and humid atmosphere of shopping street. Different sizes of bamboo stacks were added to a given structure.

My group proposal was awarded by arch. Kengo Kuma with 1st prize and the project was then self-constructed.

PISCINA MIRABILIS

competition / adaptive reuse, exhibition / 2020 / 1.500 sqm / Bacoli (Italy)

Architecture competition on the reuse of the roman cistern Piscina Mirabilis, in Bacoli (Naples). The project aims to use a gentle and respectful restoration approach, keeping the totality of the building as it is, but at the same time transforming it in an inviting environment for citizens and tourists. A wide public square is created on the rooftop, as an elevated terrace overlooking the sea. Some thin water lines conduct the observer’s eye towards viewpoints on the

The existing light holes over the Piscina are maintained and covered with a thin layer of water, so that when natural light crosses them it creates downstairs the effect of being submerged.

Water is used as the linking element between ipogean and elevated floors.

PICO - MUSEO DEL TARTUFO

Team: Arch. Elisa Dellarossa, Arch. Federica Filippone, Arch. Giulia Filippone, Arch. Salvatore Cicero

competition / renovation, exhibition / 2018 / Alba (Italy)

PICO was created as one only identity for the two museum locations of Alba and Montà d’Alba. The name of the museum refers to the botanical name characterizing the “White Truffle of Alba”: “Tuber magnatum Pico”. This double museum is structured as a journey in which the visitor explores the various kind of places crossed by the truffle, starting from its extraction up to the hands of the most exclusive chefs. The element that regulates the transition from one location to another is a symbolic object: a tree with uncovered roots, whose mycorrhizas are highlighted with golden color. This symbol is located at the entrance of both museums, as a landscape element drawing people to the museum.

competition / skyscraper concept / 2018 / shortlisted

One of the biggest threats to cities around the world is sea-level rise, caused by higher temperatures and melting ice sheets on the north and south poles. This competition aim was to rewrite the definition of the modern-day skyscraper; our proposal doesn’t involve a single skyscraper design project: it actually works like a grafting urban system Responding to the needs of future flooded cities, it structures itself through an inverted hierarchy of function and distribution.

Ground floor activities are simply shifted to highest floor levels, switching the settlement of the traditional skyscraper typology.

The new building appears as a construction site that can be gradually updated according to changing climate conditions.

The skyscraper of the future doesn’t refer just to an architectural type, but materializes itself in the “Top City”

MANGO VINYL HUB

competition / adaptive reuse / 2018 / Cesis (Latvia / 1st prize winner

In architecture, a parasite can be a project that, dealing with pre-existing buildings, creates a link of spatial and structural interdependence (not necessarily functional too). The parasite integrates the old building within its own existence, giving it a new life and opening it to new intepretations.

The creative block, which hosts Mango Vinyl Hub, is invaded by parasites, volumes with the main aim of linking the different buildings of the area both between each others and with the urban centre nearby.

These pipes generate a distinction between public and private spaces which is strong but also open to flexible solutions. The pipes do not only have the function to connect similar functions, but they work as telescopes for the observation of the city from new points of view, reaching the rooftops of the existing buildings. Cesis Castle, as well as the city center, are now visible from this spots.

The jury said about out project: “Aptly concerned with the technological artifact, the project draws parallels to the high-tech movement, evidenced for instance in the circulation strategies by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers at the Centre Pompidou. The colorful tubes generate a boisterous addition to the site, paying respect and restoring the existing infrastructure of the former industrial factory”.

“SHOPPING MALL AS A CHALLENGE FOR THE RE-USE OF BIGNESS”

graduation project / Team:

Pier Luigi Nervi designs the “Palazzo del Lavoro” in Turin in 1961, on the occasion of the first centennial of the Italian unification. Nowadays the building survives in a dreadful state, after years of abandon. Our project takes place in a relevant moment for the history of the Palazzo: the proposal advanced by the municipality for the transformation of the building in shopping mall has been contested in many occasions.

Our proposal is the result of a long reflection, which has driven us to an “ecological vision”, identifying architecture as a product of man and, subsequently, of nature: starting from this view, we define a new design method, characterized by the idea of a “parasitic” diffusion of volumes inside the Palazzo. The project is inspired by the typical setting of the surrounding urban blocks and develops itself also trough the increasing of the already copious invasion of plants and vines coming from the outside public park.

This idea of the organization of the interior allows you not to have to heat the entire building (spending a large amount of money), but to interpret the interior of the building as an open urban space, where stand independent, individually heated structures.

Our idea includes the integration of a cycle path (direct connection with the fluvial park, set on the other side of the street), a museum gallery dedicated to the history of the building and of the event it was constructed for, a commercial gallery inspired by Turin’s “portici” (porches), a didactic courtyard, to be used by the schools in the proximity of the structure, a renewal of existing inner cinema, a co-working area, a small art gallery, a congress hall and several inner gardens, as an extension of the external park. We also added a “neighborhood center”, requested by the citizens (as all the other inserted functions) to improve the sociability and the aggregation of the area.

Every activity exercise its attractive influence, acting as a sort of “recall” for visitors with different interests, reproducing the more spontaneous situation which is typical of the urban context

For the project a 3d printed design model was realized in PLA (scale 1:200) and was later exhibited at “Paratissima 12” (famous art fair in Torino).
