ArtMoorHouse is pleased to present: Tokyo Love Story: A Sensory Journey Through The Acoustic Vibration of the Lights of Tokyo” an exhibition of works by Tiziana Alocci.
Tokyo Love Story: A Sensory Journey Through The Acoustic Vibration of the Lights of Tokyo” runs at Moor House, from 1 October 2024 to 8 January 2025.
In keeping with ArtMoorHouse’s overall curatorial theme for 2024
– “Colour and Other Vibrations” - Tokyo Love Story: A Sensory Journey Through The Acoustic Vibration of the Lights of Tokyo” by Tiziana Alocci is a thought provoking and truly captivating exhibition that invites the viewer to explore at a more
intuitive level the artist’ visual interpretation of Tokyo’s acoustic fingerprints of “silent” objects. From vending machines to busy roads lights, Alocci’s works offer the viewer a fresh perspective on the complex melody of signals that orchestrate movement and life in Tokyo's bustling streets.
In her practice Tiziana Alocci has always been fascinated by data visualisation but lately her focus has shifted towards the research on the visualisation of ephemeral data such as sounds, scents and lights.
In her latest project the artist recorded Tokyo’s electromagnetic pulse through a series of innovative audio recordings techniques that allow to transform visual stimuli into auditory experiences. This new data became a primary media for Alocci who, through rigorous physical processes and meticulous technique, was then able to transform the sensational city’s vibrant energy into a visual experience.
With this body of work Alocci slows down the process of looking and thinking inviting the viewer to experience the invisible forces that shape the unique character of Tokyo’s most iconic districts.
If we consider the sensory experience as a new form for envisioning and understanding how we actually feel a space we quickly realise that what is captured by our eyes is no more then just one of the facets of the prismatic experience that map our perception. The image of a place is not what it appears to be.
Each of the artworks on show is the result of the artist’s visual interpretation of the hidden sound of different light sources that caught her attention while she was walking in Tokyo.
What is the electromagnetic sound of vending machines, store signage, abandoned neon advertising signs, karaoke lights, hidden frequencies are made visible by the artist in an exhibition that offers a new perspective of how we interact with different space and at which level we truly engage our senses. - Elisa Martinelli, founder and curator at ArtMoorHouse London
COLOUR AND OTHER VIBRATIONS:
Each year we embark on a journey of exploration and expression by selecting a specific topic which represents the underlining link connecting all of our yearly exhibitions. Each year, we ask artists, designers, curators to interpret our yearly theme when they select or create site specific artworks for the exhibitions. Our aim is to chose a topic we think reflects a cultural shift that is happening or that is about to happen. With the topic of COLOUR AND OTHER VIBRATIONS we wish to explore the the dynamic relationship between colour, perception, and the vibrational essence of existence through the very unique point of view of each of the artists or project selected.
We believe that this theme not only offers basis to explores the profound relationship between humanity and the universe but it also encourages viewers to reflect on the very subjective nature of perception and on the impact that social and geopolitical culture may have on our way of understanding it.
For us Colour and other vibrations theme fosters an interdisciplinary exploration that transcends boundaries and opens the door to creative, thought-provoking conversations about the essence of color and vibrations in our lives. It's a theme that promises to offer an extraordinary and intellectually enriching experience for both artists and viewers.
ArtMoorHouse aim is to establish a unique platform for promoting an unsurpassed synergy between creativity and business. Transforming data into meaningful stories
Tiziana’s work is born from inevitability–an unstoppable impulse to track, process, and expose the varied and unseeable rhythms of the world. It begins with documentation, feeding a compulsion to capture patterns that can be systematically recorded as data.
The data is then translated into new visual compositions, offering new ways of reading incorporeal phenomena–like city sounds, scents, human breathing, and sleeping patterns. The end work culminates as ‘behavioural cartography’–abstracted representations of the behaviour of people, cities, and objects. The artworks, once complete, piece together diverse unveiling both overt and hidden messages embedded in the everyday rituals of human existence.
The work is an act of storytelling. Beginning through an act of recording, the act of making art occurs in the process, not just in the outcome. Data is the ink that transposes the artist’s thoughts, breeding poetry from the details of science. The data pursued is always chosen through personal motivation–the artist’s inherent impulse to understand the intricacies of her own relationships, configurations and conditions. The work is consequently told through a personal lens, often laced with fragility and defiant authenticity.
