CAR CONDOMINIUM

CONCEPT STATEMENT

Concrete Floor

For this car condominium space, the idea of structured chaos was the main concept to the design. The target car collector was geared towards a military vehicle hobbyist. Just like the military, while life can become chaotic in an instant, they act with strategy and structure. This design displays elements of abstract and chaos, but with a structured look to it.

The model shows the exterior detail of airplane metal used for the outer shell of the mezzanine. This level of detail was created by using a laser cutter.

2 PRIMARY RETAIL TIRE SHOP

Inspirational Colors

CONCEPT STATEMENT We all have an order of importance in life, one being safety. We rely on our vehicles and when they need to be fixed, we dare not look away. Transportation is a primary element in our day to day lives. The word primary can be used in a few ways. In the retail tire shop designed it is used to represent importance, order of development, and of course the primary colors. Importance is to remind us to take care of ourselves and the ones around us. Order of development is used to help us improve and be successful in what we do. And lastly, the use of the primary colors applied to the interiors to bring familiar pops of motivational colors. The retail tire shop is designed providing a cafe, observational lounge, business study, and a gym. All are incorporated to provide opportunities for the customer to be successful while updating the safety of their vehicle. The designed space allows for time not to be wasted and also for the experience of more than just a tire shop.

CORRODE 3 ST. CLAIR SUPERIOR REDEVELOPMENT Inspirational Colors

CONCEPT STATEMENT

First Level Plan

The St. Clair superior redevelopment project is based off of redeveloping an existing housing structure located in the Cleveland area. The goal of the project is to create an improved and renovated house to the Cleveland city. This home is a seed project to ignite the community redevelopment. The concept applied to the designed space is corrode. While corrode is often linked to deterioration, the intent of the concept is to be the reveal of elements from this deterioration. Just as if an object were to corrode, the St. Clair design is shown through colors and various textures such as metals, cement, glass, and brick.

4 ECHO

A RESTAURANT AND BAR

Color Palette

CONCEPT STATEMENT The concept applied to the restaurant and bar design is rediscovery. Customers who dine at the restaurant would be able to relax, and rediscover the beauty and simplicity in life. The theme brought into the space was textured simplicity. The design features focus on the natural, detailed, and textured aspect of the word. Natural and familiar elements applied but used in not a typical way. The name of the restaurant is Echo, in the sense that when we look back and rediscover an object or experience, it is something familiar to us already. And just like an echo, certain materials and objects applied to the restaurant design create a reflecting atmosphere. These positive experiences will make customers want to come back. Echo

5 EMERGING

FELTING 3D WITH WOOL CONCEPT STATEMENT This fiber project is about the endless possibilities of creating 3D forms with textiles. It is made up of 100% raw wool that was felted together to create one piece of fabric. This process includes design, layered planning, a lot of soap, agitation of the fibers, and very hot water. Nothing on this project is sewn or stitched, it is all handmade.

Though planning out the design layout and fiber layout is tedious, it shows that proper planning and strategy are crucial to design. Each pop of color emerging through the surface was placed with a purpose, personally dyed to an exact color, and cut to be revealed.

6 MICRO-UNIT

INSPIRED BY ACRYLIC ART SCULPTURE

PROJECT DESCRIPTION The model demonstrates the design of a micro-unit space based off of extruding shapes and spaces inspired from an acrylic sculpture. You can begin to see rooms and entries begin to emerge from the original piece into a micro-unit living space. These spaces offer different floors and privacy levels throughout the living space.

COWORKING OFFICE SPACE

Color Palette

COLOR THEORY

CONCEPT STATEMENT The Steelcase Next Design Student Competition was about creating a new coworking office environment. For the space designed, I chose Gear as my concept. Coworking environments are really about having interactive and creative spaces. The concept, Gear, pulls all the elements of the designed space together. Gears have to work together in order to perform a function. The definition of a gear is also “one of several possible arrangements.” The designed workplace will provide these different work options and you see the concept of Gear being applied through CONNECTIVITY, INTERACTION, and FUNCTION.

8 SETACEOUS POP-UP SHOP

CONCEPT STATEMENT The idea behind this project was to experiment with the potential limits of a shipping container. The space designed serves as an transportable and expandable shop inspired by the Moroccan culture. The use of various tiles, woods, colors, and symmetry all add to the aesthetics and experience of this cactus shop. The name, Setaceous, comes from having or being covered with bristles or prickles. The main idea of this shop is a small step to get the community involved with supporting locals and also for people to engage and interact with each other. The shop creates a fun approach and is suggested to pick your favorite pot and plant your own cactus or succulent plant.

Renderings were done using Rhino and finalized in Photoshop. Looking at the floor plan above, you can see how the shop is able to expand. The workstation tables along the wall are able to fold up to allow space for the glass greenhouse sector to slide in. The windows also retract inside of the container. After the porch doors are closed and locked, the porch folds up and into place.

9 SOLACE

GENDER NEUTRAL RESTROOM

CONCEPT STATEMENT The essence of solace is peace. Though similar, its definition transcends those of its composers. It is a point of refuge where comfort is found. It exists within the relationship of one’s experiences and feelings. While interacting within a specific parameter, the user is surrounded by physical elements that influence their emotions. Specific elements like nature and color can play a psychological role in merging the abstract concept of solace within a defined space. The inspirational settling is located in an airport, though was also considered for spaces such as a mall or corporate office environment. 10 MANEUVER VA OUTPATIENT CLINIC CONCEPT STATEMENT Maneuver can be defined as a movement or series of moves requiring skill and care. Another meaning is a large-scale military exercise of troops, warships, and other forces. Maneuver is the path from one space to another space. It is the blurred lines that show transition of movement. Maneuver is the precision executed by fighter pilots maneuvering through the air. In a healthcare facility, doctors, nurses, and staff need to use their skill and care to come together to help the patients. By merging materials, colors, and way finding, environmental graphics can help guide the users through the space. GROUP MEMBERS: Elise Biebelhausen, Lori Yoder, Julie Farley
