ELISE LOWERY INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO

ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCEW MYSELF! Hello, I am from a small town in southern Maryland. My affinity for design first emerged as a young child creating doll houses for my Barbies, and placing furniture in my five story fully furnished Barbie resort. Soon after outgrowing Barbies, I found a more realistic approach to interior design by designing my dream home for my eighth grade math project. I was fascinated by the drawings and 3D models that I created. I was so invested into every inch of my project, from that point on I knew that interior design was something I wanted to persue. Onward, to my high school years I volunteered at the National Building Museum. At the Building Museum I created furniture pieces for children, completed design apprentice programs, and museum instillation projects that are still popular today. As a student at Savannah College of Art and Design I have been able to collaborate with other design majors, work with real clients, and travel to third world countries to use my design skills to fight poverty. As a designer I want to maximize my educational experience to promote growth development, and innovation within interiors.

LE PARFAIT BOUDOIR An intimate conversational design that is comfortable to live in but structurally pleasing to the eye with symmetry and balance. Relating to French Neoclassical design structurally but, furniture and decorative choices Rococo. The focus of this project is to create an interior space inspired by Neoclassical and Rococo Design from the past and recreating the styles into a new modern twist.

Rococo

French Neoclassical

Organic, Intimate, Playful

True, Geometric, Luxurious

Rococo design is very intimate and artificial. The style itself is very playful and magical with a lot of organic elements that relate to nature. Detail is also a major component, rooms are carefully planned out as complete works of art. The style is very rich and at the time only the best could pull this particular style off.

Neoclassical design is a reaction against Rococo, this style is very true to itself and uses a lot of classical forms. However, French Neoclassical interiors are similar to Rococo interiors but, instead of organic free forms they are very geometric. Overall, they both have vast amounts of detail that represent a luxurious style.

In this room there are several elongated features like bed, windows, chandeliers Organic Element: Floral patterns on the wall paper, sunlight, floral abstract rug. SIMPLISTIC DELIGHT

CEILING PLAN

FLOOR PLAN

CONCEPT APPLICATION

"It is such a relief to return to tranquil, simple forms of furniture, and to decorate our rooms by a process of eliminitation. In other words, the architecture of the room becomes its decoration." The focus of this project is to create an interior space inspired by quotes from the book The House in Good Taste by Elsie De Wolfe. This particular quote inspired me to create a pleasant dining room where the architecture speaks for itself and is a welcoming place for happy gatherings.

“I believe the simplest form is a circle and no matter how many times one can divide the figure all pieces will always be equal and relate to each other. " Concept reinforced: The straight lines shows the transition into a different space of interaction

"This is a very good arrangement where people have one large living room or hall in which they dine and which also serves all the purpose of daily intercourse. This entirely removes any suggestion of a dining-room, as the consoles may be separated and stand against the wall during the day." In the floor plan the two purple circles represent two distinct spaces of interaction. Even though this is one dining room there is an area for sitting and serving and the other for dining.

"Eating outdoors makes for good health and long life and good temper, everyone knows that. The simplest meal seems a gala affair when everyone is radiant and cheerful, whereas a long and elaborate meal served indoors is usually depressing." Having all windows in the dining area gives the eating experience a more outdoors feel which is pleasent for dining.

7

7

"Think of suitability: do not like high-backed chairs in a dining-room. Their one claim to use is that they make a becoming background, but this does not compensate for the difficulties of the service when they are used. An awkward servant pouring soup down one's back is not an aid to digestion." All the chairs have low backs and are rounded to support the arms. The table also has a dolly in the center to rotate the food when serving.

"Rooms facing south may be very light gray, cream, or even white ... blues and grays and cool greens and all the dainty gay colors are charming." The cool green details in the room makes the space feel more jolly. The white cream colors on the other walls balances out the darker colors to not make it too overwhelming.

7

10

7

"He will concern himself with the moldings, the light-openings, the door-handles and hinges, the unconsidered things that make or mar your house." The unconsidered items I placed in this room would be the grass texture sliding panels behind the glass. These grass and glass panels make the room look more rich and compliment my nature inspired color palette. In addition, the small details of texture like the stone walls, bronze surfaces, and copper fireplace make the room look more rich.

"Your windows are supposed to give you sunshine and air; if you drape them so that you get neither sunshine nor air you might as well block them up and do away with them entirely." All of the windows in the design are undraped to allow sunshine and natural beauty to flow through.

"Candlesticks are easily equipped for electricity and are the most graceful of all fixtures for dressing-tables, bedside tables, tea tables, and such." Candles are placed on both side tables to making the lighting more relaxing at night .

"I prefer the normal heat of sunshine and open fires" The fireplace is a nice addition to the sitting area because it brings out more conversation in the room and the copper partition panels makes it more modern.
