Working Smarter, Doing Better. THROUGH MANUFACTURING
THROUGH RESEARCH
THROUGH TECHNOLOGY
THROUGH PEOPLE
Our Productivity Enhancement Drive In the challenging marketplace of today, the emphasis on productivity is becoming increasingly important. When we talk about increasing productivity at Dr. Reddy’s, we don’t mean only eliminating ineffective processes. Productivity enhancement for us means working smarter and making better decisions, creating more efficient processes, and ensuring manpower productivity through a leaner and more focused structure. We are always looking for better and newer ways of doing things, be it in research, manufacturing, technology or through our people. Read on to find out about the productive measures we have taken in all four counts. These collectively can help us work smarter and do better, which in turn can help us offer better products and services to our patients and partners.
4
Please turn to page 51 (The Last Word) where COO Abhijit Mukherjee shares his views on this topic.
"Productivity is an important part of our values and is key to meeting the expectations of our patients, partners and other stakeholders. Delivering affordable medicines and developing products for unmet medical needs requires doing more with less through innovation as well as efficiency. - G. V. Prasad CEO
Enhancing Productivity Through Research
The Advanced Characterisation Lab
The Advanced Characterisation Lab, polymorph screening, and leveraging the latest developments in information technology – these three elements are helping our research teams bring in innovation that is speedy and enhances productivity. We now have the capability to screen polymorphs faster and support better collaboration through digital platforms, which allow us to develop APIs and formulations faster.
The Advanced Characterisation Lab The strength of the Advanced Characterisation Technology (ACT) Lab lies in its core capabilities that are needed to understand molecular behavior in all kinds of dosage forms, crystal structure, and
bioavailability/bioactivity. We make a strong scientific rationale to regulatory authorities in demonstrating a deeper understanding of our product in relation to the reference product. Waivers to bypass expensive clinical studies require a strong rationale supported by data which can only be obtained through advanced characterisation. Apart from the generics business, the ACT lab is also playing a crucial role in the development of proprietary products which use in, silico screening of solvents, and formulation optimisations based on partitioning and skin permeation. The ACT team is also extending support to our manufacturing plants in addressing queries from customers and authorities. In future the ACT lab aims to extend its characterisation capabilities to other support functions like packaging.

High Throughput Screening (HTS) and Characterisation With the help of polymorph screening we are able to screen various crystal forms of our APIs in a high throughput manner. The equipment is connected in such a way that you can do the characterisation of the crystals that you are forming, again in a high throughput manner, and then use IT tools to segregate which ones are novel and which ones are not. A total of 96 experiments can be simultaneously conducted on this system at various conditions. Discovery of novel polymorphs can now be significantly accelerated by performing hundreds of crystallisation experiments with wide
range of techniques. That is a huge benefit for our API business. The histogram shows about 75% man hours saving for 96 slurry experiments with one FTE from solid dispensing to data analysis. This new addition of state of the art system has increased productivity of polymorph screening work in Dr. Reddy's by 300400%.
iConnect and Electronic Lab Notebook knowledge, and provides easy access to information. With over 10000 documents in the system, iConnect is improving productivity by reducing the amount of time people spend looking and utilizing knowledge that is already part of the organisational portfolio.
iConnect is an electronic platform that allows people across locations to come together and collaborate. It is a repository of all documents generated during the drug development process, creates a huge databank of
More than 550 scientists at IPDO are actively using the Electronic Notebook and close to 15,000 experiments have been documented in it. Studies indicate a ~25% reduction in the time needed to document and analyse these experiments, making this system the source of primary data. Being 21 CFR Part 11 compliant, the ELN, when used in conjunction with best practices, helps us score very high on data integrity and data quality measures.
“If you really want to do cutting edge science, you don’t need to have a very large R&D team, and you don’t have to spend a lot of time to get innovation out of the door. The Advanced Characterisation Lab, polymorph screening, and leveraging IT – these three together are going to differentiate us in terms of bringing in speedy innovation – the kind that does not require too many people but brings in the depth of science. One of our key USPs in the API business is our ability to generate novel polymorphs, which lets us launch our products ahead of the patent expiry timeline. On the Formulations side, since the strategy now is to look at complex generics, understanding how these products are put together is the key to finding a way to come up with generic equivalents. For that we have gone several levels below to really understand how the three dimensional structure of a product comes together to deliver the drug. The third component is leveraging IT, and thanks to iConnect and the Electronic Lab Notebook our documentation process is more robust and helps us collaborate better.”

Enhancing Productivity Through Manufacturing
FTOs A challenge to us is to discover ways to increase productivity while maintaining high levels of quality. And achieving high productivity typically involves getting the most out of limited resources, such as material, machine and man which will enable Dr. Reddy’s to be an ever - flourishing pharmaceutical company. That’s doing more with less. During recent past our company has initiated “Operations Transformation” journey by defining 8 building blocks of sustainable operations. One of the building block is 'Productivity' improvement in the areas of Material, Machine, Man and Methods (systems/processes). The projects are identified at one level as business challenge like high demand of certain product vis-à-vis the capacity, increase in sea shipments versus air shipments, yield improvement of high volume/value products, people productivity on packing lines or small improvements (related to Safety, Quality or Delivery) by work-teams at their workplace. All these initiatives are led by the plant teams on the shop floor and facilitated by Continuous Improvement (CI) Team. The Lean methodology is deployed on the shop-floor through intense in-house training and select Green-Belt training. Let us illustrate this with a few examples.
Material Productivity Fexofenadine 180mg Tablets (Yield improvement): Productivity improvement project has been taken by Role Model team, FTO - 3 for Fexofenadine 180mg Tablets for improving the yield at manufacturing stage which was at 94.8% (average for FY 2014). Detailed analysis using value stream mapping found that most of the yield losses occur at Granulation, Coating and compression stages. The actions taken to rectify the same include: Granulation - fixing of vent filter to RMG (Rapid Mixer Grinder), automating milling process; Compression – optimizing material usage; Coating - replacement of Compressed air lines with larger inner-diameter air pipe of Coating machine to facilitate better spray pattern, replacement of Inlet air filters of Coating machine for maintenance of bed temperature. This has resulted in improvement in product yield by 1.3% (average yield YTD (October 2014) is 96.1%) leading to potential savings of INR 1,01,84,208 annually. Apex Predator Lions Team in Unit 2 of FTO-Unit 3 improved product yield of Metoprolol common overcoated pellets for 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg ER tablets from 97% to 99% (7.61 kg/batch). This was achieved by opting for lower strength division at blending and compression stage and by optimizing the coating parameters at sustain release coating - 1 stage to reduce generation of sub-standard size pellets and thereby increasing the product yield. The validated savings from this project are INR 32,00,000/-.

MOST (Maynard Operation Sequence Technique) is a predetermined motion time system to calculate “standard time to perform a task. The objective of MOST is to identify opportunities for combining & reducing motions, eliminating redundant motions and improving ergonomics. The study was performed in identified areas of FTO-Unit 2, 6 and 8 where significant improvements in ergonomics were observed apart from redeployment of 72 people
during August 2013 to November 2014 and resulted in saving the walking distance by employees by approximately 4 KMs & bending frequency by 530 times/batch. Given below (see top right) is an illustration from blister packing area (demonstrated at FTO-Unit 2 packing line #6) where earlier a total of 7 people were employed per shift which on MOST study implementations curtailed to 3 people/shift after minimizing the non-value added activities. The recommendation from MOST study included; Automation, Mechanization, Outer carton removal, increasing the engagement level by rationalizing work and redeployment of employees.
Program To Achieve Cost And Capabilities Excellence (PACE) was launched in 2011 with the dual objective of achieving cost and capability excellence across Supply Chain Management and Procurement functions. In FY15, PACE program has been decentralised and is run from respective Business Units, each responsible for tracking and maintaining accrual targets. PACE program thrives on generating ideas and taking through the funnel until implementation. Below is the summary of ideas generated and implemented over last four years.
CTOs Productivity Improvement Scope: Productivity is one of the key aspect pillars of our 8 pillar transformation way of life. Productivity improvement is achieved through following concepts, I. Yield variation reduction II. CIP III. Shop floor engagement & Performance Dialogues Few illustrative examples are:

Enhancing Productivity by Enabling People and Through Patient Centric Services
International Speaker Program webcasted to reach out to 6 times more doctors compared to conventional methods
Enabling Our Front - End Employees at India Business Deploying the right field force at the right places, and carving out the most effective territory has been a big challenge in the Branded Pharma sector. Often we have a high potential resource sitting in a low productive area and thus resulting in decreased sales. Hence at India Business we have moved to a more opportunitycentric and data-based model. This new approach takes into account multiple sources of pharma and demographic information to estimate market potential at the territorial level, which then guides territory restructuring enabling redeployment of field force from low productive areas to higher productive areas Already this approach has fuelled accelerated growth for our mega brands and our new launches.
Leveraging Technology and Patient-Centric Services New IT trends have enabled the marketers to move from conventional ways of promotion to nonconventional ways leading to higher efficiency with increased efficacy. Best illustration of this is the significant shift from non-tech enabled Go-To-Market (GTM) model which was very limited in terms of its reach through personal medical education. Now, we reach thousands of customers at a fraction of the cost through non-personal webcast, where international or national thought leaders engage the audience via interactive webcasts. Leveraging this technology, team Recura had organised an International Speaker Program for its doctors across India. It is through this
technology that Dr. Satish Rao, world renowned gastroenterologist, could reach out live to 500 doctors based in different cities at one go as against the previous model where no more than 70 doctors could have benefitted. Similar programs have been accelerated for key therapeutic areas where we aim to pursue leadership including Diabetes, Cardiology, Urology, Gastroenterology. This business innovation not only led to far wider reach but also reduced the cost per attendee and hence acted as a productivity multiplier. “At our India Business, we are committed to delivering enhanced productivity on an ongoing basis. Our productivity mantra is to focus on more productive brands with higher throughput and market share, high-value customers, and high-opportunity territories. We have put in place operating mechanisms and practices with the field force to make productivity part of their DNA. At the head office, teams are working on reducing our cost structure, increasing the ROI on our marketing, and finding new, innovative ways to deliver increasing business effectiveness. - Alok Sonig Senior Vice President & India Business Head (Generics) We are also focused on optimizing and leveraging cost across divisions, like reducing travel and cross leveraging meeting venues and travel across divisions. Overall, these initiatives have led to significant inflection in productivity. Across India Business, we are using technology to do things differently, which has in turn created demonstrable impact on productivity.

Our colleagues, Tina O’Connor from Australia, Marina Silko from Ukraine, Zhanna Bayasheva from Kazakhstan and Khine Khine Win from Myanmar, tell us what makes them excited about the work they do, and take us through their journey with the organisation.
True Efforts of People are Rewarded M
y journey with Dr. Reddy's, Myanmar began in 2002, when I joined the company as an Accountant. Interestingly, at the time of my joining we were a team of only 12 members. Today the Myanmar team has 92 members and is still growing. My career too has steadily grown over the years, as I went from becoming Finance Executive in 2008 to Finance Manager in 2010, and finally took charge in my current role as Senior Finance Manager in 2012.
What I love the most about my job is the high performing culture, timely recognition, rewarding the true efforts of people, team spirit and the satisfying job environment which helps me provide the best support to my colleagues. I feel proud to work for Dr. Reddy’s, a truly global pharmaceutical company that provides affordable medicines to people for happy and healthier lives.

Khine Khine Win Senior Finance Manager, Myanmar
One of the most challenging, but enriching experiences for me was when I had to represent Dr. Reddy’s as a Deponent in the Hyderabad court in 2004, and subsequently in the Mumbai court in 2007, for a case filed by a Myanmar distributor involving in some currency fluctuations. The good part is that we won the case. Another challenging experience for me came up in 2005, when it became a herculean task to get Dr. Reddy’s registered under the Myanmar company act. We were finally successful in persuading the Myanmar
government and thus, became the first Indian Pharma company to be registered in Myanmar in 2007. Things I like to do the most outside work are reading, travelling and watching movies with my husband. I have a passion to win in everything I do, and above all want to enjoy every bit of my life.
There are Opportunities Everywhere I
joined the Kazakhstan team in December 2000, as a Medical Representative. In November 2003, I became a Regional Manager, managing eastern part of Kazakhstan’s team in cities called Pavlodar, Semey and Uskemen. Two years later, Petropavlovsk was also put under my immediate supervision. In August 2012, I took on the responsibility of Zonal Manager in Almaty, and cities I now managed included, the southern capital of Kazakhstan and Regional Financial Area – Almaty, the third most populous city of Kazakhstan - Shymkent, historical former second capital of Kazakhstan after Orenburg - Kyzylorda, and the sun shining - Taraz located in southern part of Kazakhstan.
Zhanna Bayasheva Zonal Manager, Kazakhstan
What I love the most about my job are the constant changes happening in the company, which open up new opportunities for us. All these are conditions for self realisation, benevolent internal climate and mutual aid atmosphere. I have been working for 14 years with medicines, necessary for the population and which help in coping with specific health problems. When I understand that I am benefiting people, I work with pleasure.
Manager is one who takes care of the staff and motivates people, right from the onboarding process, through the subsequent cycle of stay, with the company. Work is everywhere, but people everywhere are different. A Manager’s main task is to select correct staff – to find the right people, train them and then guide them. This is a major challenge for a Manager.
I am very proud of the teams created by me as they have turned out to be skilled medical representatives and true professionals. I think a successful

y journey with the company began in 1998, when I joined the Ukrainian Team as a Marketing Representative, in Donetsk Region. In 2005, I was promoted to Regional Manager in Donetsk region (Donetsk, Luhansk Oblast) and starting from 2007, I have been working as a Zonal Manager, Zone 2 (East of Ukraine : Donetsk, Luhansk , Kharkiv , Poltava, Sumy region). Frankly speaking, I would never have thought that this company would become a part of my life. At that time I was just searching for a job which would bring me some money. I had no experience, but I had big ambitions. Today, I am so happy and proud to be one of those employees who stand at the origins of Dr. Reddy’s, Ukraine.
14
What I love the most about my job are the opportunities that it opens in front of me. I like to communicate with different interesting people, and the fact that the company gives me the opportunities for permanent personal and professional development. I like to feel that I am valued, and of course, I am proud of my team. What especially motivates me is the unusual spirit which exists here, that constantly pushes you to move forward. For all of us, stability and confidence in the future, social security, respect to the individual, self realisation, training, communication and friendship are important things in life. I feel that Dr. Reddy’s provides all of these to us, which is why our employees are so

successful, and that is the reason why no one wants to leave. We all know that the path is not always easy, sometimes on our way we meet bad luck. Which is what we had experienced during two crucial crises in Ukraine (1998-1999; 2008-2009.) Those were the times when we lost friends and our beloved colleagues; but we never gave up. We wiped our tears and moved together towards our goal. I am very grateful to everyone, with whom I have worked all these years, who have helped and supported me during difficult times - special thanks to Ramesh Kumar (1st Head of Representation), Muralidharan TK (2nd Head of Ukrainian Business), with whom I have worked for 11 years, Prashant Khandelwal (current Leader), Mr. Rajeev Nayak (Director of Rx business and Creative Leader of next level), Obraztsova Elena (NBPM), Voytovskaya V. (Chief Accountant), Voichenko M. (Regional Manager, Donetsk region), and of course my
beloved team. Thank you all very much! I would never have achieved anything without these people. My family is sacred to me, so I dedicate all my free time to being a wife and a mother. We love to travel together, play sports and watch movies, dream together and of course sometimes argue. I love my kids and my husband and therefore I try to find balance between work and family. What I admire about my family is that, they respect my choices and are extremely supportive. In people, I appreciate their courage and positive thinking, and of course the sparkle in their eyes!

What I love the most about my job are the people I get to work with. At DRLA, everyone from sales, logistics, finance, marketing, HR, regulatory affairs and support staff pull together with one common goal - the success and future of the Australian business. This is a team effort where we support each other on this journey of excellence and exceeding customer expectations. I love the challenges, the wins, the development of our long term relationships with customers, building of our brand, our company identity, and our reputation as a “stand out” company, representing quality, synergy and professionalism in a crowded market. This business is about relationships, industry knowledge, integrity, trust and vertical integration. Discovering Yaroslavl Through Running! W
hat’s the best way to discover a city? Just run in it with a group of runners, in a marathon. With a passion for running, I have always looked for places and groups to run with. I am inspired by the saying “If you want to run, run a mile. If you want to experience a different life, run a marathon”. Whenever I have a weekend to kill during my trips, I jump at opportunities to run. During one of my trips to Russia, I decided to run the 'Yaroslavl Golden Ring Half Marathon'. Having run close to 13 marathons and clocking close to 150 kms of marathon running, it was great when an instant opportunity presented itself to run the first International Marathon in Yaroslavl, Russia – A UNESCO world Heritage site. Yaroslavl is one of the most picturesque regions in Russia, along the banks of river Volga, with a myriad of historic monuments. After a 3 hour journey from
16
Moscow, I reached Yaroslavl station. The whole city was bustling with energy for the marathon, and some fellow runners gladly guided me to the venue. I almost instantly felt at home with runners all around me! After having reached the venue, the scene was breathtaking. The view from the top of the Volga embankment and promenade was beautiful. It was a grand fair, that had exercise zones, Zumba training, live gymnastics performances and healthy food and drinks. After having collected my registrations, I realised I was the only Indian runner in this marathon. It was inspiring, but I was a tad bit jealous of the fitness levels of the locals. The marathon was a process of discovery of Yaroslavl city. As I completed one km after another, I discovered the beautiful colours of fall, ancient churches and the by-lanes of a quaint city. I did get tired midway, but it was the constant motivation from fellow runners that brought back my stride. Over the years, I have realised running is not merely about fitness, it’s a way to discover yourself, the city and the culture of a country. Where else would you find complete strangers motivating you and bringing out the best in you? Kuldhara The Abandoned Village
F
amily time is one time that everyone treasures the most and I’m no different. This time during the Dussehra break, we took a family vacation and went to Jaisalmer. It was a great trip and we almost did everything that the tourists do when in Jaisalmer, but we also did something that not all tourists do. Not many people know that when one is on their way to the Sam Dunes, about15 kms from Jaisalmer lie the ruins of a village by the name Kuldhara. The village was established in 1219 by the Paliwal Brahmins. They were a very prosperous community and were known for their business acumen and agricultural knowledge. What makes the place interesting is that, after having lived there for more that seven centuries, one night, in 1825, all the people in Kuldhara and nearby 83 villages vanished in the dark. Nobody saw them leave or figured out where they went. Why did they vanish and where did they go? Some The ghostly silence of the place, the old crumbling walls and the sand gave it an amazing atmosphere. I fell in love with the place, it was like the present and the past have come together and I could see how things were then and compared them with how they are today.
believe that the evil dewan or the minister in the ruling kingdom saw the young daughter of the village chief and wanted to marry her. He forced the village chief and gave them a deadline for the wedding after which he would forcefully enter the village and take their daughter. All the chiefs of 84 villages met one night, and for the sake of their pride and honour, decided to leave the villages in the dark of the night. Others also believe, while leaving, the villagers cast a curse over the village that would bring death upon anyone who tried to inhabit the place. The place has been uninhabited since, and people who try staying over the night are never seen again. As one reaches the place, they are welcomed by a grand village gate that stands tall even today. The roads were well laid and the structure for all the houses were alike. Each house had a place to park their carts and a basement to store food. Though most of the houses are in ruins, some structures have survived and these help one imagine how life was, back then. Kuldhara was by far the highlight of our trip to Jaisalmer. I highly recommend the place to people who love visiting ruins and historical places. - Abhishek Chander Gupta Corporate Branding

However, leadership is more than that; it is an 'aspiration' that includes a sense of purpose, excellence and influence. It involves being the best you can be and helping others be their best. At Dr. Reddy’s, we have always been committed to our people. We believe that it is people enabled leadership that will help us stand by our mission of best serving our patients. We pride ourselves on the autonomy and space we provide for people to grow and to create an impact at work. We wanted to extend this to the individual her/himself, help her/him on a journey of personal transformation and growth that will increase her/his effectiveness in every sphere of life. The New Horizons Leadership Program (NHLP) was launched in December 2012 to raise the effectiveness of each individual and build their leadership ability. Over the years, NHLP has grown to be the Dr Reddy’s flagship leadership development program. Personal transformation is the crux of this program. We have found that personal
transformation invariably leads to organisational transformation. NHLP is action-centric, unlike the traditional learning-centric leadership development programs. The individual learns a lot, but applies that learning both in the personal and professional space which in turn creates long-lasting impact. After 18 months and 80+ leaders who have participated, we have found that it has made an impact both at the individual and group level. Specifically, personal effectiveness, people leadership and collaboration have seen a marked increase. The NHLP is anchored on the philosophy of Lead Self, Lead Others, Lead Business and Lead Change. • The journey of personal transformation starts with Lead Self which focusses on realising one’s potential and overcoming limiting mindsets. • Lead Others focusses on acquiring mindsets and skills to lead teams, create a collaborative culture and influence others. • Lead Business focusses on developing a strong business perspective and identifying levers that will drive
I will never forget the day when the spouse of a participant approached me and said, “My husband has become a better man at home. He listens better, has become more sensitive to me and the children. Thank you for the opportunity!” Incidentally, his impact at work had also increased. This for me was a tremendous outcome as the same individual shows up both at work and at home.

growth and success. • Lead Change focusses on bringing about large-scale change that is necessary to sustain business’ success. We want our investment on personal growth to grow roots throughout Dr. Reddy’s. We believe that NHLP will make this possible. Through this program, we want to (a) help our people raise their own aspiration about the impact they can create, both personally and professionally, (b) enable people to appreciate their strengths, overcome limiting mindsets and beliefs and live up to their full potential and (c) build an ecosystem which allows people to become ‘community builders’, i.e. actively contribute to the development of others. NHLP is the perfect convergence of individual and organisational success. In the months to come, NHLP will touch the lives of many more leaders in Dr. Reddy’s.

“I’s been a deep and a profound experience” - Krishna Venkatesh, IPDO
“I have learnt to be more compassionate with myself….I can expect from others only what I have given myself” - Poonam Raghuvanshi, IPDO
“I realize that people alignment is critical to leadership….I see 2 shifts here, I have started delegating more and expressing myself fully with my stakeholders, these two shifts have brought us closer together” - Sanjay Shetgar, FTO
NHLP for me is not just a program, it is a movement! Through the program, you learn to demonstrate leadership in every role you play both at work and otherwise. After the program, you actively contribute to the community by inspiring others and investing in their development, and this brings about large scale impact.

i2 is being implemented in two phases Phase 1 (June 2013 to December 2013), was the design phase where cross functional teams worked in unison, discussing existing process gaps, documenting varying points of view / opinions, debating options to come up with a new operating model. Phase 2 (from January-2014), is the implementation phase where, the new processes will be implemented with the help of SAP. Currently, we have gone live with Demand Planning and Net Requirement Planning module. The project team was carefully selected to have representation from various aspects of Supply Chain, Operations and IT/BPE. Our internal team is closely working with Deloitte, who is our partner for both the phases of the project. The concept has been well received both internally and externally. The creativity and adaption of SAP functionality in meeting the unique operational requirements of our company was recognised and was recently awarded the SAP ACE award. While it is still early in the project, we are confident that we have taken

R
elations with Russia are a key pillar of India's foreign policy and Russia has been a longstanding time-tested partner of India. Since the signing of 'Declaration on the India-Russia Strategic Partnership' in October 2000, India-Russia ties have acquired a qualitatively new character with enhanced levels of cooperation in almost all areas of the bilateral relationship including political, defense, technology, healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.
22
On11th December 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited India as a part of the 15th Annual IndiaRussia Summit. Our Chairman Satish Reddy and Head of Emerging Markets M V Ramana were invited as speakers in the CEO Forum and Investment Forum respectively. Apart from Satish, two other Indian CEOs invited to speak at the forum were Anand Mahindra and AM Naik. Satish spoke on the traditionally strong ties that India has had with Russia over the years, participation of private sector companies to boost bilateral trade, and our commitment to the Russian
market. Ramana was invited as a speaker in the Investment forum and was also interviewed on Russia News Channel1 as a part of President Putin’s visit. Ramana spoke about existing and future opportunities in Russia, and our successful experience in Russia over the last two decades. Dr. Reddy’s entered Russia in 1991 during the Perestroika years and has stood the test of time by staying committed to the geography even during the 1998 financial crisis, when most other companies exited. Today Dr. Reddy’s is the largest Indian pharmaceutical company and among the fastest growing generic pharmaceutical companies in Russia. As a part of Pharma 2020, the Russian government has mandated development of domestic pharmaceutical industry and localisation of high-technology production and development of drugs. In line with Pharma 2020, we have partnered with a local company in Russia to manufacture high-technology products, including bio-similars in the area of oncology,

hildren need frequent dental visits because of high risk of tooth decay, unusual growth patterns or poor oral hygiene. On the occasion of Children’s Day, GG-India Team, Recura Ace organised a dental health checkup camp for children of GG-India employees. Dr. Y Sudheer Reddy, a renowned dentist, offered free consultation for oral problems of children in the age group of 2-14 years. The dentist spent sufficient time with the children and their parents and also gave them useful tips on maintaining good dental hygiene. Some of the tips shared are: • Children should frequently visit dentists. This is because milk teeth are smaller and have thinner enamel, thus, decay can spread very quickly. Frequent check-ups help dentists treat decay early, before it causes toothache • They should eat less sugary foods to prevent tooth decay, avoid squashes, fizzy drinks, natural fruit juices, sweets and cakes • They should brush their teeth twice a day, using a low fluoride toothpaste • They should be taught to floss as it helps clean food stuck between teeth

Bristol Lighting Upgrade: A Success Story
The Bristol warehouse
A
mong the costs of running a business, energy is a major expense, especially in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Phasing out inefficient lighting technologies, in favour of more energy-efficient lighting products, can not only reduce carbon emissions but also help in slowing the growth of demand for energy in general. When looking at operating costs for energy, one area that jumped out as easy to improve is high-bay lighting. The warehouse and maintenance teams identified the old metal halide lighting
system as an area in need of improvement. Glare, maintenance costs, and slow relighting time were the issues with the system. The team selected a high colour rendition, T-8 fluorescent lighting system with occupancy sensing that met energy rebate guidelines and provided a major energy reduction. With an installation cost of $84,000, a rebate of $58,000 and estimated annual energy savings of $37,000, the new lighting paid for itself within eight months and continues to generate significant savings: • A three-year lamp guarantee, which saves 16 hours of maintenance each month • No manual turn-on or shutdown • Improved safety due to instant ON feature • Better colour rendition and less glare to improve label readability

Reclimet®-XR
Acrofy™
GG-India team, Zenura-3 has launched Reclimet®-XR (Gliclazide 60mg + Metformin 500 mg). The key feature of this anti-diabetic medicine is the presence of a score line on the tablet, which allows for its easy breaking into half. This enables the doctor to up-titrate the dose, for example, from one tablet to one-and-a-half tablet, as the condition progresses. Reclimet®-XR has been packaged in a patient-friendly pack, offering the following benefits: •
The 14 tablets pack has space to mark daily dosing regimen. This promotes adherence and compliance.
•
Prominent display of key content such as the brand name, company name, MRP and expiry date ensures safety, and facilitates easy re-purchase.
GG-India team, Derma-A has launched Acrofy™, a moisturiser specifically designed for patients suffering from acne and acne prone oily skin. Acne patients are quite reluctant to use a moisturiser, as it sometimes aggravates the condition. Acrofy™ meets a very specific unmet need of an oilfree, mattifying moisturiser that also regulates sebum (oil) production, the causative factor for acne.
Reclimet®-XR has been developed by our Oral Solids team at IPDO.

"Over the years, there has been some confusion, resulting in HR and people management being used in an interchanging manner. HR, like finance, is a professional function in a company, and is not supposed to manage people. People are supposed to be managed by their Managers. For instance, when I interview a person, give feedback or appreciate an employee, it does not mean that I am doing a HR job - the right way to understand it is that I managing, developing and engaging with people. Managers are supposed to manage people and HR is supposed to guide and support them. That is the difference between people management and HR.
Therefore, to make people management effective, we need to clearly articulate the expectations from Line Managers. With that in mind, we have launched the on-demand People Management Effectiveness Program, designed to help Line Managers take complete ownership of their people. As the next step, we are going to organise a People Managers’ conclave in early 2015. The event will serve as a platform for Managers across BUs, where they can interact, listen to senior management and thought leaders, and learn specific skills. I look forward to welcoming our People Managers to the conclave, and a great learning experience for all of us."

PACE Update
A Bottom-Up Approach to Cost Innovation! e embarked on the PACE journey 3 years back and have seen 3 successful years of increase in productivity, during this period. In order to take this to the organisation at large and get ideas from the grassroots, the team recently launched the ‘Cost Innovation Campaign’.
W
In today’s world of shrinking margins, cost sensitivity becomes very relevant. Organisations are being forced to rethink, redesign and shrink their trading operations in the face of much tougher regulatory requirements, revenue declines and cost pressures. Cost Innovation ideas like any other
Our COO, Abhijit Mukherjee launched the campaign with the theme – “Let’s do better with less”. The intent was clearly to not just get more ideas, but also to inculcate the culture of being conscious of cost in everything we do.
Therefore, I urge you to share your "Cost Innovation" ideas. It is very important that we contribute and build on others' ideas, as many great ideas come through collective wisdom rather than individual brilliance. All selected teams will be provided with the required support and resources to implement their ideas. That way you will be able to see your idea in action and create real impact to the organisation.
Let’s do better with less!" - Abhijit Mukherjee
The idea campaign was run from, 4th to 25th November, 2014, over a span of 3 weeks. A lot of interesting ideas were shared on the idea portal with a good mix across functions.

As we progress on our purpose of accelerating access to affordable and innovative medicines and continue to address unmet patient needs, it is imperative for us to be competitive in the marketplace. One of the critical elements of the same is to develop leadership in cost excellence, as the same has direct impact on our bottom line.

Safety STAR Caps Taking the Self-Managed Team Journey Forward… You’ve got what it takes…
36
T
his inherent belief in the capability of the shop floor employees has enabled the FTO Leadership to transform the traditional hierarchical structure into one of Empowerment and SelfManagement. One of the ways to achieve true empowerment is an initiative called STAR Caps.
Environment - FTO), shares, “Parivartan as a program had highlighted the need for a stronger approach in driving safety initiatives on the shop floor. The need for safety coordinators in line along with the presence of work teams on the shop floor evolved into the STAR Caps initiative.”
STAR Cap is a team member who takes up additional responsibilities for his team in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Engineering or People while executing his existing responsibilities. This enables the team member to broaden his outlook and also contribute to the team’s growth and well-being. STAR Cap, as the name suggests, plays an important role (Cap) and therefore is respected among his team members (STAR). Each team member gets an opportunity to play this role for one year, after which another STAR Cap would be selected from the team.
Atul Dhavle (Vice President, OE and CI - FTO) shares his views on the subject, “In order to implement Safety Procedures and Practices in the plant, involvement of a grass-root employee is a must. Safety STAR Caps is designed to implement safety practices on the shop floor. It is a small and humble beginning with LOTO implementation, 5s initiation, kaizens, JSA reviews etc. It is also a step towards empowerment of grass-root employees. At macro level, it is a part of our capability building program in SMT way wherein, the employee can opt to build capability in three ways, viz Broad Skilling (thru STAR Caps), Multi
S Balu Mahender (Director, Safety, Health and
Skilling and Deep Skilling.” The concept took shape in May 2013, and as a first step, the role of a Safety STAR Cap was defined and piloted in nine teams before rolling it out to all work teams across FTOs. This was followed by rigorous selection and training of Safety STAR Caps. Today, about 148 Safety STAR Caps exist across FTOs and are contributing well to the overall safety well-being of the organisation. The role of a Safety STAR Cap includes preparation and revision of JSAs, implementation of LOTO, ensuring 5s in his area by taking up kaizens, increasing safety awareness among his team members and giving periodic pep talk on various safety issues, incidents etc. The contribution of a Safety STAR Cap is measured on a scale of 100 marks (for 5S, JSA and LOTO) a month and the same goes into the Work Team Scorecard.
Radhika giving pep talk to team members
Including the kaizens that they contribute to, Safety STAR Cap’s role can add about 150 marks to the team’s score for the month. Reviews conducted at various plants, help us identify areas that need to be improved.
in the plant and among various crossfunctional teams will increase. Their work will be recognised in several FTO level forums like FTO MRM, Safety STAR Caps meet in LA etc., which have helped institutionalise the initiative across teams.
In addition to the scorecard, their visibility
Some of the contributions by Radhika include, replacing regular Leakage Circuit Breakers with Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers to prevent shocks, using Safety Cans for 2.5 litres solvent bottles to ensure safe handling and procuring Safety Rings for Volumetric Flasks to minimise the accidental breakage, apart from preparing Pictorial JSAs. “People now recognise me as a Safety STAR Cap. This has helped me feel a sense of pride in my work and my contribution towards raising safety awareness among my team members.” - Radhika, Safety STAR Cap, FTO-2
"When I was acknowledged as Best Safety STAR Cap in JOSH ceremony, it encouraged me to take up a safety project to reduce noise level in Omez Injection packing area from 96 db to 84 db, by shielding the SWFI hopper with sound proof guard."
"I feel proud that my work on maximum near miss reporting was recognised in the plant." - Kshipra Sharma, Safety STAR Cap, FTO-6
- Shailza Sharma, Safety STAR Cap, FTO-6
"I have taken up various kaizens like providing gaskets for waste bins to prevent physical injury, creating a demarcated area for spare parts, procuring IPA transfer pump to avoid manual work and various other examples." - T. Sushma, Safety STAR Cap, Colourful Coaters Team, FTO-3

A Manager who not only Leads but also takes care of his team Hari Hara Rama Chandra Rao popularly known as ‘MRC’ in CTO Unit II is one of the long timers in Dr. Reddy’s, with roots going way back to 1991, when he started his career as Jr. Chemist. In his career spanning 23 years, he has witnessed the organisation grow many folds and so has his contribution, because of which he has grown to a level of Production Manager taking care of multiple products and blocks.
M
He is one of the key champions who have put in sincere efforts in implementing SMT way of working in CTO unit II. Today, the organisation is advocating the importance of People’s Managers, but MRC is one such leader who has learnt its importance way back and is way ahead in this respect. He is leading a team of 150 members, with a majority being SMT TTs.
40
To imbibe SMT principles and their communication, he conducts Departmental Review Meetings (DRM), where he cascades Monthly Review Meetings (MRM), key high lights and Open House Session to understand the team’s concerns. He makes it a point to meet all the SMT TTs’ at least once in a week, insists on the importance of safety, encourages them to share their ideas and also ensures that they pursue their higher education.
Annually, starting last year, he organises a team get together, where the entire team gathers for lunch and welcomes the new team members, shares previous year’s achievements and learnings. This year’s meet was organised on 12th, October 2014, where the entire team gathered at the lavish greenery belt - BHEL Nursery.
Organising this kind of an event brings every one right from SMT TTs to Shift In-charges on the same floor, enables them to share their joyful moments and learnings. Getting together brings lot of bonding and inspires them to be as a team.
The event is planned in such a way that the work is not affected (employees attending the B-shift come for an early lunch, and then relives the A– shift for participating in the event). Moreover, a lot of safety aspects are taken care of by conducting the event. Kudos to MRC for being an SMT champion we all look up to!!
SMT Update Role Models Background: Subba Reddy is a veteran with an experience of 22 years in different areas at CTO-6. Currently he is responsible for production of DL Naproxin. He leads a team of over 54 members. Managing a Self-Managed Team: “SMT members need basic foundation in the form of training for the first 6 months. Production will be usually less in these 6 months but once they are well trained, there is no turning back. They follow the processes perfectly which reduces close and continuous monitoring at the shop floor”. “I ensure my availability at the shop floor around the clock to create more bonding and provide freedom for easy interaction. I also interact on a personal front (such as their financial savings, health aspects) to understand them better and provide my guidance.” Unique Initiatives: • Mission All - Rounders
“Under this concept, we have chosen two SMT TTs from each team and are training them to shape them as all - rounders in all the functional/production areas. We provide continuous training and evaluation to ensure that they are on the fast track.” • Rotational policy for every 3-4 months to ensure Multi-Skilling “Ex: Dinesh worked at Area-4 for 18 months in housekeeping, production and documentation. Now, he has been identified by the QA team as a valuable resource and has been deputed into the QA department.” • Business Awareness Sessions “Highlighting the sales numbers achieved and for the future production targets helps them understand why they are working on a particular process or product and what impact it creates on the plant, subsequently on the organisation. This makes them responsible and result oriented.”
Background: Ashoka has been with Dr. Reddy’s for over 15 months. He has been looking after the production of 7 products such as Levetiracetam intermediates ,Valsartan intermediates and API, Duloxitine Hydrochloride, to name just a few.
Ashoka NH, Head-Area, CTO-6
Ashoka’s motto is: “Success is falling down nine times and getting up the tenth time.”
Managing a Self-Managed Team: When asked about how he manages a team of over 135 members, Ashoka replied “I try transforming young and energetic students into responsible employees by understanding and guiding them patiently. I accept their mistakes positively and keep encouraging them to do better. The Hand Holding Team (HHT) in my area acts as the role model for all the work related activities in the block including housekeeping and hygiene.” Unique Initiatives: Continuous interaction with team members is ensured through the following forums:
C Subba Reddy, Head-Area 4, CTO-6
Subba Reddy’s motto is: “Never be satisfied with what you have achieved. Aim higher and reach there with proper plan and action.”
•
Daily performance dialogue and safety pledge; • Weekly personality building talks and performance reviews; • Regular technical trainings; • Monthly fun activities at the shop floor; Team Achievements: • First molecule named Duloxitine Hydrochloride (having 6 stages of production) has been launched and manufactured by the SMT TTs. This is a very critical process with respect to safety and operations • First team in Dr. Reddy's Laboratory to work in the vertical process flow (3=6 floored building i.e., each floor is equal to 2 normal floors) using Distributed Control Systems • Dynamic in handling high volume of solvents (850 KL in Duloxitine) and peptides with 100% safety measures

Dr. Reddy’s Foundation Takes Strategic Steps Towards the Future
RF has initiated a new partnership with Sattva, a Bangalore based consulting firm to help improve our existing LABS, as well as help us refine it into a new and better product. After detailed diagnostic study and a series of discussions, a set of activities that we are piloting have come to be classified under two projects: All activities related to improving existing LABS are clubbed together in a project called ‘Good to Great’ and all activities about new refinements to LABS as a product are clubbed under a project titled ‘Genesis’. As part of the Genesis project we have developed three variants of LABS – High Life skills LABS (HLS), Finishing School (FS) and Up-Skilling (US). The Genesis project is being implemented as a pilot in the following centres - Alok Nagar, Barrackpore, Puri, Gondal, Shimla, Tilakvihar, Mysore, Gopalapatnam (Vizag) and Vijayawada (Besant Road).

Taking the First Step to Educate A Girl Child
Enthusiastic participants at the Hyderabad 10K run

espite numerous efforts, India still has an alarming rate of girl children who never go to school or drop out at a very young age. To support the cause of Girl Child Education, over 100 enthusiastic Dr. Reddy’s employees participated in the 10K run recently held in Hyderabad on, 30th November, 2014. The enthusiasm, energy and the determination to reach the finish line, provided an

opportunity for runners/walkers, to actively make a difference, support a cause and raise the much needed funds for the Nanhi Kalis. It was wonderful to see how each one embraced the event wholeheartedly and helped raise funds that would support over 50 girl children. This contribution will help in reaching out to the underprivileged girl children in India, providing them with quality
education and material support. This determination brought about a change, as the Dr. Reddy’s family together made a remarkable effort for the cause. This was their opportunity to be a 'Change Runner' for Project Nanhi Kali, a cause we support and feel strongly for – Girl Child Education!
My first 10K run journey started by registering myself within minutes after receiving the emailer titled, 'When you finish, they will start'. After registration, I was trying to convince myself that, even with BMI on the higher side, I can run for this marathon, and I started with hardcore practice sessions. On the day of the run, I saw an old man, who was around 80 years, as part of the rescue team, on a bicycle with a sign saying, 'We Relieve Pain'. That man was really relieving pain of the runners with his smile. Since this was my first experience, it was a little difficult after 5 kms, but with the enthusiasm and support from other runners, I decided to complete the run. At the end of the 9th km, I clicked my picture with a board saying, only 1 km to finish. That was the moment when I realised no matter how much pain I was in, no matter how tired I was, I could finish the race. Finally, I crossed the finish line, and for the first time in my life I felt truly victorious. That was my moment and I celebrated by dancing on the streets like a kid. Also, at that moment I got the answer to my colleague’s question, “Yes, I am ready to come alone next time, if I have to run for a cause”. Hearty thanks to Dr. Reddy’s for giving me this opportunity.” - Prashant Gupta Scientist, Formulation R&D Proprietary Products “It was a great experience to run the marathon for a unique cause of 'Educating Underprivileged Girl Children'. To finish the run, was a state of mind which was made much before the run began and it was a race between our willpower and potential of what we can do.” - Chandrakant Bamtu Velip Scientist, Formulation R&D Proprietary Products
“It’s amazing to see so many colleagues from different streams and different BUs running together for a noble cause, such as ‘Educating a Girl Child’. I was a part of many 10K runs every year, but this one is special, as I am carrying Dr. Reddy’s brand on my T-Shirt, for the first time. Had lots of fun. Thanks Dr. Reddy’s for giving us this opportunity.” -J V Phani Kiran Associate Director Internal Audit
“ It's an experience every runner needs to have! First of all, I have a tremendous amount of respect for people who run marathons because it may be one of the most challenging things to do. I saw people on that run who ranged from 10 years to over 70 years of age, from really fit to well over 300 pounds in weight. Every time I saw them, I thought, "Good For You!”. So what if you walked - you did it!! Participating in this run was great fun” - Sachin D Dashpute Formulation R&D Custom Pharmaceutical Services

Our Competitive Advantage We are a science-driven company focussed on developing, manufacturing and commercialising difficult-to-make generic products and APIs to meet the needs of patients all over the world. We deeply engage with our partners and patients, and strive for commercial excellence. Our ability to be the first to bring limited-competition and differentiated products to the market is our competitive advantage. Our market place is getting more and more challenging each day. With relatively smaller peers catching up with us, and the industry structure constantly changing, we are feeling a lot of pricing pressure both in API as well as pure generics markets. Several of our branded generics markets are going through geo-political and economic upheavals. In this fast-changing environment, solving challenging problems and raising productivity should go hand in hand. The key thing to remember is that productivity is not just about cutting costs, it is also about efficient processes, particularly effective decision making; right choices at the right time with relentless execution. To get the right product to patients at the right
time, we need to make a host of decisions about portfolio, development approaches, technologies, regulatory pathway, supplies, inventories, and so on. Being quick and efficient in making these decisions is the essence of productivity. I believe we have scope to sharpen and refine our decision making processes. We have been building capabilities in line with our strategy; giving as much attention to productivity is also critical. Alongside, we need to effectively identify and eliminate redundant processes, thereby saving resources and organisation bandwidth. In view of our size and scale, increased efficiency will give us much needed agility and flexibility. This will enable us to meet our responsibilities to patients and partners while achieving our growth aspirations. I look forward to working with all of you on raising productivity as much as we can. As we plan for next year, let’s make productivity one of the top priorities for the company.
